Text from Pages 1 - 128 of the 1973 volume:

2 3 STAYING YOUNG g, is not a matter of years. Youth lives in a love for the beauty that is in the in the mountains, the sea, and sky, and in y faces through which shines the kindliness Tinner mind. It is the tuning into the orchestra of living sound, the soughing of the wind in the trees, the whisper and flow of the tide on wide beaches, the pounding of surf on the rocks, the chattering of brooks over the stones, the pattering of rain on leaves, the song of birds, and of peepers in the spring marshes, and the joyous lilt of sweet laughter. Youth lives without counting the years in a fluid mind wlrich is poem to new theories, fresh opinions, changing impressions, and In the willingness to make new beginnings. What is it to stay young? It is the ability to hold fast to old friends, and to make new ones, to keep forever our beloved in dear remembrance, and to open our hearts quickly to a light knock on the door. Youth is to remain faithful to our beliefs, to preserve our enthusiasms, to trust in ourselves, to believe in our own courage, and to follow where courage bids us go. David Gilman Connie, A shy and studious girl...................Cindy Janvrin Senator Whiffwaff, The breezy type................Steve Major The main story of Our Town centers around the lives and courting of George Gibbs, the doctor's son and Emily Webb, daughter of the newspaper editor. The first act characterizes the town, its family life, the budding romance of the young couple. The second act centers around the wedding of George and Emily and includes a flashback to the mo- ment when the couple first realizes they love each other. The third act, said to be one of the most imaginative acts wirtten, revolves around Emily's funeral. Both the living and the dead contribute to the audiences understand- ing of the main theme of the play, that life is too wonder- ful for anyone to realize it to its fullest extent. Then + Now “i 973” Jr. — Sr. Prom One of the most glamorous events of the school year was the Junior Senior-Prom. The juniors hon- ored the seniors on April twenty-eighth at the Decatur Club. The evening opened with an invoca- tion by Paul Collins after which a dinner of tossed salad, swiss steak, whipped potatoes, and sherbert was served. Dan Murray, the cheerful master of ceremonies, attempted to keep the program at a bubbling pace. Bruce McBride welcomed the sen- iors with Howard Loveless responding. Enid Grolla sang a medley of songs including Speak Softly Love , Soft September , and Killing Me Softly . Enid was accompanied by Cindy Janvrin. The best part of the program was the senior class prophecy, read by Carol Halford. Soon afterwards, the tables were moved aside to make room for dancing. From that time until the end of prom the music was pro- vided by Listen. Mr. Hamilton was on hand to take couples' pictures. At ten o'clock the couples left, only to remember the lovely time they had. 63 Graduation The class of 1973 said good-bye to high school on May 31 at 8:00 p.m. Salutatory and valedictory addresses were given by Roy Mosser and Brian Haynes. The Senior Chorus, accom- panied by Mrs. Scanavino, sang Where the Roads Come Together. Chris Ahrens, ourA.F.S. student, reviewed his year at Warrensburg, thanking the school and community for making his experience possible. Following the pres- entation of diplomas and the benedic- tion, the class switched their tassels, signifying the end today and the be- ginning of tomorrow. Our Cardinal team came home with a glorious vic- tory. Warrensburg and Wethersfield were tied for the cham- pionship at 111 to 111 when the time ran out. The tie was broken when Warrensburg answered 2 of 5 toss-up questions in overtime. Our Cardinal team deserved the victory for which they worked very hard. 82 This year was the start of a great tradition at W-L! With much co-operation and enthu- siasm from people of the school and the com- munity, Warrensburg's first annual Scholastic Bowl was held here on May 5th, 1973. To top off the glory of the day, our Red team captured the championship trophy in a 201-91 victory over Tuscola. Special consideration goes to Mr. Smith and Mrs. Hale for the endless amount of work and organizing they put into the project. Without them and the many others who helped, the day might have been such a suc- cess. SOPHOMORES Class of “74” Dave Anderson Carl Armstrong Lynn Armstrong Bruce Baker fWD HOT AVAILABLE just camera.
