Mo d . For your varied forms of service -having taught different ones of us as fifth graders in grade school, Spanish as freshmen, English as sophomores, United States History as juniors, and World History as seniors—for your serving on the AFS and Senior of the Month Committees, for your assis- tance with our problems, for your in- terest in our welfare, for your devo- tion to our common cause-that of learning and for much more than words can express, we dedicate this, our 1968 Cardinal, to you, Mrs. Mor- ford. Cardinal Staff and Class of 1968 This year marks the end of an era in the history of Warrensburg- Latham District Number Eleven. After serving as our superintendent since the birth of our district, Mr. E. B. Allen is re- tiring. Over the past years he has guided us through the legal hassle which united our five communities, he has overseen the construction of our high school, and he has started us on the path to a unit grade and middle high school complex. To express our appreciation to him and to recognize his labors, we sincerely dedicate this page of our 1968 Cardinal to ... . Cardinal Staff and Class of 1968 %t. AUm 5 A second former YVarrensburg-Latham High School student has given his life for his country. Private First Class FRANK BRACKETT died in the Bon Son Plains, Republic of Viet Nam on December 6, 1967. Frank, a member of the Class of 1965, will be remembered always as a friendly and kind upperclassman here at Warrens- burg-Latham. He died bravely and gave his best that we might have freedom of worship, freedom of fellowship. He gave his best for his country. He never met a stranger and was a friend to all. He was a man of laughter and enjoyed a good time. He held the respect of both members of his squad and his superiors and an out- standing friend to all of his platoon. He had enthusiasm and ability to get the job done, no matter how difficult the mission. Never will his courage be forgotten. Life begins and life must end. Life must go on though our loved one is gone. He has gone away. But memories still linger and will stay with us forever. Life begins and life must end. He is not alone for with him sits the One on the throne. Both friends and foe will remember all the memories that still linger. —Linda Wray 3fi %moum Jwik 'Bmkdt May 29, 1947-December 6, 1967 — «i Edumtion SEATED: Donald Dipper, President; Wayne Roberts, Secretary; Sam Edgecombe. She graduated from high school in her home country, and will go to one and a half years of preparatory college before she enters a university. She likes to hike, and her favorite food in the U.S. is pizza. The students and community of Warrensburg- Latham were proud to have Susan visiting with us this past year. We hope she had a pleasant and rewarding stay. It’s setting was the apartment of three girls: Sue Ann, Priscilla, and Cam. The mystery began when they found something on the dumbwaiter, the dead body of the building superintendent, Mr. Hatcher. Lt. DeVille was called in to solve the case. The suspects were the three girls'. Mrs. Riley, a widow who lived directly beneath the girls; Sonia, an artist who was a little weird; Owen Barnes, tenant living above the girls; and Henry Riley, Mrs. Riley’s nephew. As the play developed Sue Ann became involved with Owen who seemed to be able to protect her from whoever was the murderer. Cam decided to help Lt. Deville and Of- ficer Connelly solve the murder. Priscilla and Henry Riley became closely related. The ingenious Cam set a trap for the murderer who turned out to be Owen Barnes. He was involved in a counterfeiting ring with Mr. Hatcher and he killed him when Hatcher decided he wanted to quit. 53 ftomecotHuu] The 1967 Homecoming activities began with the Snake Dance on September 28. The cheerleaders led the W-L fans through the streets of Warrensburg and then back to the school for the bonfire and pep rally. On September 29, 1967 the football game was held be- tween the Warrensburg-Latham Cardinals and the Mt. Zion Braves. Although we were behind at half time, the activities which took place during half time proved we were still full of spirit. The band played some of your favorite tunes as the classes and clubs of W-L paraded around the football field in decorated cars and floats. One of the most out- standing vehicles was the cheerleader’s contribution-a fire- truck! Also during half time our queen, Susan Kinzer, was presented to the W-L alumni. After the half time show the game was once again in session. To our dismay when the final buzzer sounded the Cardinals had fallen to the Braves with the final score being 52-6. Saturday, September 30, the homecoming dance was held in the school cafeteria. The theme this year was DEEP PURPLE. The dance was held from 8 to 11 p.m. and the crowning was at 9 p.m. The Don Smith orchestra provided the dance music. 54 Cheryl Holderness, Sophomore Attendant, and Escort Roger Edgecombe; Susan Hendroff, Honorary Senior Attendant, and Homecoming Queen, and Escort Joe Brown; Gloria Marshall, Senior Attendant, and Escort Pete Hammer; Connie Staley, Junior Escort Mike Behrens; Escort Jim Hammel and 1966 Homecoming Queen Jeanette Pannier; SUSAN KINZER, 1967 ttendant, and Escort Dave Riley; Janet Hatfield, Freshman Attendant, and Escort Darel Mell. They happened to show their affections a lit- tle more than they should have and Mrs. Shillion, who has had a lifelong crush on Penelope’s husband, tries to make a scandal out of it. This sets the trend for the story. Mr. and Mrs. Toop, to make matters worse, have two visitors. The Reverend Mr. Humphrey and the Ladysmith of Lox. Then we have another visitor called The Intruder, a Russian spy who tries to find security by hiding at the vicarage. He then leads them on a merry chase trying to find him. Finally, the good sergeant gets everything well in hand. She appre- hends the intruder and Clive gets everything straightened out between Mr. and Mrs. Toop. 63 THE JUNIOR CLASS honors the Seniors of WARRENSBURG - LATHAM HIGH SCHOOL with C4 SCue at the Decatur Club Saturday evening, May fourth nineteen hundred and sixty-eight 6:30 to I 1:00 Music by Wayne Carr and His Band 64 PROGRAM Invocation Jacque Ater Prom Co-Chairman Master of Ceremonies Dennis Hughes Junior Class Vice-President Welcome Mark Miller Junior Class President Response Darel Mell Senior Class President Musical Selection Senior Class Prophecy Carl Johnson Prom Co-Chairman 6J Cadt Sarah Brown................. This famous hit concerns the lives of many of the peo- ple on New York’s Broadway, including Nathan Detroit and Sky Masterson, a couple of gamblers, Sarah Brown, a crusader in charge of the Save-A-Soul Mission, and Miss Adelaide, a nightclub singer. The musical score was highlighted by such favorites as I’ve Never Been in Love Before,” “Luck Be a Lady.” “Sit Down, You’re Rockin’ the Boat,” and “Guys and Dolls.” Mrs. Scaniveno directed the production, with Mr. Drussel in charge of the Stage Band and Mary Jo Fox as Student Director.
