THE CREST.........THE COAT OF ARMS OF THE WARRENSBURG CENTRAL SCHOOL This Coat of Arms of the Warrensburg Central School was designed by Marion Burry. Her intention was to bear within this crest a portion of the history and aristocracy of this Queen Village. Warrensburg. The background of the seal signifies an animal skin. Because of all the animal trapping done in this area, the Village of Warrensburg was founded by the workers in a newly-established tannery. The three lines that we see converge in the near center remind us of three Indian trails that each met at this one point. This converging point became the early site of the town. Likewise, at this point was the rock of pow-wows that was then called Council Rock. The Indian head in the upper left portion is for all the Indians who were in this area at the time of the first settlement. At the very top of Harrington Hill was a single room cabin where Warrensburg's own Floyd Bennett was born. The cabin is shown at the mid-right, just opposite Council Rock. Floyd Bennett was a most famous aviator who accompanied Admiral Byrd on his expedition to the North Pole. LINDA A. Mom and Dad RACHEL SAWYER More love and pride than you can measure You're the best sister a fourteen year old could have. You're my favorite sister; I'll miss you next year. Love ya. Erica 58_________________________________ To my best Friend. I'll miss ya. Rach. Joe STEVE HATCH To be great is to be misun- derstood. Talent is that which is in a man's power, Genius is that in whose pow- er a man is. And still they gazed, and still the wonder grew. That one small head could carry all he knew. In the lexicon of youth, which fate reserves for a bright manhood, there is no such word as — fail! No one knows what it is that he can do until he tries. Youth is wholely experimen- tal. Life is a great bundle of little things. Experience makes us able pilots in the waves of for- tune. 60 Dear Kirsten, Your future success we see — not as a goal but as a result — the result of your determination, courage, and confidence. We have never expected perfection, only self - satisfaction. If you are happy and satisfied, so are we. We are very proud of you and we always will be. Lots of love. Mom and Dad Kirsten I have the two best sisters a kid could have! I will miss you. I love you. Justin You did it Kirst and I'm very proud of you! Thanks for always being there to listen and to cheer me up when I was down. I wish you the best in the future — I know you will achieve your highest goals. We have come a long ways to- gether. You can do anything you want just go for it. Lots of love to you, OUR SON; you have made us proud. Dad and Mom Tobias, Live your life from day to day but take a minute for this prayer: the day returns and brings the petty round of irritating duties and problems, help me to play the man, help me to perform them with laughter and kindness, may cheerfulness go hand and hand with industry, give me the strength to go happily on my business all the day and grant in the end the gift of sleep. Amen, by: Robert Louis Ste- venson. Love, Gram and Grampa Mundy Toby, Always put your best foot forward and play to win. Love, Nana Son, The glory of God is man fully alive. May you always live life fo the fullest and remember, to love and be loved is the greatest joy on earth. Love, Mom and Dad Toby, Hope you can follow in my big footsteps. Good luck on your corvettes. Love, Matt Tobias, Finally, you made it! Congrats and best of luck in fhe future, just try to stick around so you can help guide Nicholas since you were the ideal child. All our love. Jack, Bethany and Nicholas Buzzard, Hope you are having a super Sr. year, there's never another. Love, Boo Toby, Well, looks like I'm the only one left to graduate. I really did have a lot of fun this year with only you and me left home. I'M really going to miss you. I'm left for the next three years with no big brothers to protect me! JEAN H. FRULLA, Thirty-eight years Mrs. Frulla began teaching in the Warrensburg Central School in September of 1949. During these years she has taught secondary English. Her awards of excellence are indicated through her many students who began their studies with her direction and guidance. Mrs. Frulla was recommended and succeeded in the award of the New York State English Coun- cil for excellence in teaching English. She has been the faculty advisor for the local chapter of the National Senior Honor Society for many years. Thank you and good health! So that we may respect both the wishes and our thanksgiving to Mrs. Patricia R. Olden, we thank Mrs. Olden for her thirty-seven years of dedication to Citizens of Warrensburg. Mrs. Ol- den has requested that nothing more be men- tioned; we honor that request. ARTHUR BROWN, Twenty-five years Mr. Brown has been an active member of the Board of Education of the Warrensburg Central School for these recent years. It has been his desire to see and to experience an educational temperature that caters to more varied pro- grams, resulting in greater opportunities for War- rensburg students. Mr. Brown is encouraged by the initiation of computer programs, more varied areas of study through BOCES, the growth of the all round stu- dent whose studies and athletic abilities enhance each other. Thank you and good health! 68 In appreciation of Mrs. Mary Mithcell, we the Class of 1988, would like to extend our thanks to her. When Mrs. Mitchell joined us in our sophomore year, there was very little organization to our class. She helped us get back on our feet, and made us more aware of how the class activities were supposed to run. Throughout the years, Mrs. Mitchell has been there as an advisor and a friend. She has helped us to learn responsibility and how to enjoy our work while we do it. Mrs. Mitchell has put up with all of the problems that go along with being in charge of a group of kids, and we appreciate her patience. The Class of 1988 thanks you, Mrs. Mitchell! We, the Class of 1988, would like to extend our deepest appreciation to our advisor Mrs. Ann Lloyd, known affectionately to many as Mom”. Although Mrs. Lloyd hasn't been with us for long, the time she has spent with us has been super.” She took on the responsibility and head- aches of being an advisor in our junior year, and has taught us the responsibility of working to make money. She has shown us that we have to work if we want to obtain something in our lives. However, our time spent with her hasn't been all work and no play.” After working all day preparing for the prom at THE GEORGIAN, we were able to play all night. She has been here to share many special times with us, and we are grateful for that. Our thanks to our, Mrs. Lloyd! 69 s T U D E N T C O U N C Front Row: Nancy Haggerty, Secretary; Charles Gray, President; Laurie Granger, Vice President; Roy Muermann, Treasurer. STUDENT COUNCIL The Student Council is an organization that provides student participation in school affairs. Students, through their student council representatives, share in the administration and management of school activities. The Council's activities are to reach even into our community. It should also organize class events and even help with local elections. The Warrensburg Central School Student Council strives to fulfill the many requests made of it. LAVARNWAY AEMON KOLASIENSKI STEPHEN E. RUMRILL Girls' State When asked to write about Empire Girls' State, I knew this could be a book. There's just so much to say. If there were ever an opportunity for you to be a participant in Empire Girls-' State, do it! I learned so much about myself in the seven days I spent at Cazenovia College. At first, I was a little worried when I was pushed into the registra- tion lines with 350 other girls, and I didn't know anyone. I didn't think I was going to have fun; but, that didn't last long. We were split into wards of thirty girls each. I spent the whole seven days within this group. It does not seem possible but we became instant, best friends. I could not believe that we all be- came friends so quickly. That was one of the best parts of the week-the first hour we met each other. The week flew by because we were kept so busy. The whole idea behind Girls' State has been to involve girls in the understand- ing of typical state government operation. We literally and actually created a mock fifty-first state. Officers were elected at the coun- ty and state level. There were two parties to which you were assigned. The Federalists and the Nationalists were always competing with each other. This was the only way the wards were split. Half of us were Feds and half of us were Nats. The Federal- ists held meetings together while the Nationalists held theirs in an- other room as a unit. I ran for mayor, the top county official, in the Federalist party. I campaigned using posters and my voice. I was then given a chance to make my speech before the federalists. There was one nominee from each ward. The elections at the federalist level were close. I came in second, but that meant almost half of the federal- ists voted for me. I was thrilled. The Federalists' officers then had to run against the Nationalists' in another election. Speeches were made and there was much cam- paigning. During these meetings the Feds and Nats were enemies. My friends from my ward were enemies. But as soon as we got out of the meetings, that was forgotten and we were great friends once again. It was super! After all the elections were done, party caucuses were held. Bills were argued until both parties had some bills to put on the floor. I was appointed a senator, and had to argue and persuade my thoughts of the bill to the room of feds and nats. That was great. Most of the bills passed into law were dealing with problems of Girls' State. For instance, we were not given time to exercise. It seemed that all we did was sit and eat. Every law passed was for future Girl States as well. The final night of Empire Girls' State was beautiful but sad. We all knew we'd be leaving each other in the morning. It's hard to make friends and then lose them so quickly. At the Inauguration ceremo- nies, the Governor and her fellow officers were officially assigned to their positions. All the girls wore gowns in a candlelight procession. This is a night I will never forget. I feel it is a great honor for me to have taken part in such a wonderful week. I will never forget it, because I learned to much about politics, true friends, and myself. I felt like I was most impor- tant. I am really important, and I discovered this at Girls' State. Each “Girls' Stater was someone special, and we all knew it. KINDERGARTEN 75 - 76 TO THE CLASS OF '88. Mrs. Lawson handed me a packet and said. ‘If this interests you. fill it out After reading my “packet.'' I discovered it was an application to receive an eight week scholarship to Japan, compliments of the Joponese government. Two people from each state would be chosen l figured. “Why not?” I filled out all the necessary forms, wrote more essays than I care to remember, and hod an interview with Mrs Lawson I mailed everythng out and really forgot about it. In December I received a letter from YFU (Youth for Understanding), the organizers of the program They scud that l was one of twelve semi-finaksts in New York State I had an interview m Albany in early Jonuary At the interview I met a three-person panel, and was asked questions obout my life, my goals ond how I might odjust to different situations m Japan After that, six of us went before the panel for a group discussion We hod to choose one of three imaginary people to win the scholarship there was a lot of controversy, but we finally settled on one person As we left, we were informed that we would be notified who was finoly selected Two weeks later another letter from YFU came This was the hardest thing I ever had to do — open the envelope The first word I read was “Congratulations1'' The rest was a blur I had won a trip to Japan' On June 17 I flew to Washington. D C., for a three-day orientation I left home knowing no Japanese, but. it could only get better We had crash courses on customs, religion, and language of the Japanese On the twentieth of June I left for Japan The next eight weeks were a dream come true I visited Tokyo — took a boat down the river, shopped, walked through the famous Ginza district, visited castles thousands of years old I saw Nikko. a town renown for its natural beauty There are numerous waterfalls, and the area is famous for its bori carved wood I spent two days n Kyoto, the religious center of Japan The temples and shrines were indescribable Many were buit on the edges of cliffs, without a single nail The serenity and natural beauty of the place is the most MELANIE LAUBEN awe-mspirng. though l also spent a week at my family's villa n the mountains of Japan Every view was breath-taking' What a ski center! The week after I got to Jopan I attended an ail-girrs. private. Buddhist school A cultural experience it definitely was1 The classes seem to be on the some level as ours, but the kids are totaly different They have a unique culture of the own I was fortunate enough to meet a Bosan. which are Buddhist priests They rested in my home, on their annual ritual of walking the city. Listening to their chants ond prayers, you feel you've gone back in time I walked through Masumoto Castle, the oldest in Jopan You could picture the samuri. hundreds of years before, fighting battles, and protecting their lords The history ond culture is so splendid The end of my summer came too quickly Good-byes are never easy, but I have lasting friendships and memories that wi last me a lifetime My family gave me a home and love that I win never forget YFU and the Japenese government broadened my horizons, and my aspects of our world To them. I am ever grateful I am stiH in contact with YFU. and I am happy to be port of a host fomdy this year, snce Florence Soioi has become a sister and a friend JUNIOR VARSITY BASKETBALL Front Row John Rafferty. LIFE IS EXCITING AND SHANNON ELAINE BENNETT IS A GREAT SALESLADY! OUR BEST! FROM JERRY, CONNIE, AND TENNILE HUNSICKER AT WEST MOUNTAIN SALES CORINTH ROAD GLENS FALLS NEW YORK 1280T I I no FLORENCE SOLAL WARRENSBURG — YOUTH FOR UNDERSTANDING Decisions do more than follow the stages of your life, they change them The idea of living in another country without my family for one year took birth in me years ago At first it was like a dream it seemed so far away and incredible As time passed, my idea became one to take positively Even though people around didn't always agree. I never changed my mind First. I thought such a change would just be fun. After a period of time I met with YFU Youth For Understanding, had an interview, and everything was fine, hopefully. Under this plan, it was mandatory for me to attend a preparatory week-end From the beginning I knew the decision I took was important, but after that weekend. I realized it would be much harder than I could have imagined. There I understood what would be a cultural shock Time passed and on the seventh of July. 1987.1 graduated from High School with honors, and then l had only three weeks before I departed At this time my only wish was that it was already a year later I became more scared than excited. I guess it was normal. The first of August. I found myself in Thurman My first thought was Where am I? I felt as if I were in the middle of nowhere. My parents were worrying because they couldn't find Thurman on the map Seeing all around me people who were happy to be living here. I started to think maybe I could enjoy my stay After all. all I had to do was “adapt myself and fit in . After the almost four months that I've been here. I can say that I'm not in the middle of nowhere, but in a very pretty area In this beautiful region I have found a marvelous family, some wonderful people and a very friendly school That is why I can't conclude this article without saying THANKS FOR ALL OF YOU I also want you to know that if I had this decision to make agam. I would say. Yes. I want to go . This is a great experience, a stage of my life which has made me learn about myself and how to care about others. I hope you won't forget me Personally. I could never forget you. Love. Florence c----- SHANNON WARNE, Love, Mom, Dad and Jason Congratulations to you and the Class of '88.
