THE SEAL THE CREST THE COAT OF ARMS OF THE WARRENSBURG CENTRAL SCHOOL This Coat of Arms of the Warrensburg Central School was designed by Marion Burry. Her intention was to bear within this crest a portion of the history and aristocracy of this Queen Village, Warrensburg. The background of the seal signifies an animal skin. Because of all the animal trapping done in this area, the Village of Warrensburg was founded by the workers in a newly-established tannery. The three lines that we see converge in the near center re- mind us of three Indian trails that each met at this one point. This converging point became the early site of the town. Like- wise, at this point was the rock of “pow-wows” that was then called “Council Rock. ” The Indian head in the upper left por- tion is for all the Indians who were in this area at the time of the first settlement. At the very top of Harrington Hill was a single room cabin where Warrensburg's own Floyd Bennett was born. The cabin is shown at the mid-right, just opposite “Council Rock. ” Floyd Bennett was a most famous aviator who accompanied Admiral Byrd on his expedi- tion to the North Pole. Th e professional, artistic reproduction of this coat of arms for all future HACKEN- SACKS of the War- rensburg Central School was made pos- sible through the fi- nancial generosity of the FLORENCE LA POINT SCHOOL OF DANCE. Our school and community reap the harvest of this most generous gift along with its historic legacy. warrensburg central school CLASS OF -59 n WHBSsSBM '■•Jr JILL S. Some have been graduates of this same school they now serve; others have come into the area, giving their time and their talents because they, too, believe Warrensburg to be the finest school and community for their families and friends. The HACKENSACK OF 1985 proudly recognizes our BOARD OF EDUCATION and the many men and women who have served the WARRENSBURG CENTRAL SCHOOL during these years in the founding of education in ATHOL, THURMAN AND WARRENSBURG. During these many years of the FLORENCE LA POINT SCHOOL OF DANCE, a “Broadway-quality” recital has been staged each Month of June. The HACKENSACK was one recipient of the annual profit from these recitals — the last of which was June 1984, It was this gift that has made the COVER DESIGN OF ALL FUTURE HACKENSACKS possible. Who was our guide? What were the ideas culvitated within us as our goals? Who and what are now our memories to which we dedicate this HACKENSACK of 1985? Mrs. Laddie Toney, our Class Advisor, entered our lives as wandering tenth graders. She has always been the person who gave us certain direction and guidance. Mrs. Toney always took the time to listen, to weigh our suggestions, and to make our dreams come true. She has always shown an abundant generosity to us both as individuals and as the CLASS OF 1985. Mrs. Toney always had the same generosity that included her fine Husband, Jack, of JACOBS AND TONEY. Mr. and Mrs. Toney with their daughters, Jill and Jennifer, have been our constant support. As a token of our respect, our admiration, and our thanks, the HACKENSACK OF 1985 is dedicated to Mrs. Laddie Toney. 32 There is no simple way to describe Judy Scherer. Judy was a friend; she was a leader; she was an advisor. All too quickly, Judy Scherer became our confidante, the friend who always listened, helped and suggested. She seemed to have that energy and enthusiasm needed to encourage us as a class and as individuals. Judy Farrell Scherer’s sudden and tragic death left a void that we will long remember. We, the Class of 1985, wish to perpetuate her memory. IN MEMORIAM JUDY FARRELL SCHERER December 22, 1952 -February 4, 1984 In appreciation of Mr. Daniel T. Connor, we, the Class of 1985, wish to express our gratitude. The help he has shown us throughout the two years he has been here has been so very assuring to us. He is not only an excellent administrator; but rather, he has also shown himself to be our good and faithful friend. No matter how large or small our problems were, Mr. Connor always took time from his busy schedule to speak with us, to help us grow and to assure us. Our thanks to you, Mr. Connor! IN APPRECIATION We, the Class of 1985, would like to express our appreciation to Miss Anne Downes, who served as our class co-advisor throughout the year. She joined our class at a very sad time after the death of Mrs. Judy Scherer. Her willingness to serve and her interest in our class have made an impression upon us. We will not forget you, Miss Downes! 34 Get away from me, you maniac! “One of these days, one of these days! POW, right in the kisser! I swear on Jim Morrison the singer's life! It was on this hilt, in the vicinity of Viele Pond, that Floyd Bennett. Warrensburgh’s native son who became world-renowned as an aviation hero, was born and brought up At 17 years of age, he left home to work in a lumber camp to earn money for studying at an automobile engineering school. After graduation, he returned to the North Country to work as a garage mechanic while continuing to study engines. With America's entry into World War I. Floyd enlisted in Naval aviation and re-enlisted after the war In 1925, Bennett went to Greenland as Commander Richard E. WARRENSBURG FRUIT Fresh Fruit and Produce Delivered Daily Northland Auto Supply Co., Inc. Warrensouffl N Y 12885 (518) 623-2881 Exchange Student NECA Celada From Guatemala During the Month of August 1984, Neca arrived in the Robert and Mary Sweet Family — now their fourth daughter, She first became a part of this American family living and quickly became the typical, Guatemalan-American Student. With her American sister, Stephanie, Neca enrolled at Warrensburg Central in the junior class schedule. Of course, her school schedule was not that much more different than her native Guatemala — except that the absence of bells to end classes made her feel that classes did not really end. Neca’s home does not know seasons; weather in Guatemala is mild throughout the year. You can imagine her delight with snow and sliding downhill! Square dancing was also a most special treat. Since the popular bands do not travel to her Guatemala, Neca enjoyed the concerts she was able to attend at the Glens Falls Civic Center — Hall and Oats, especially. Some differences Neca experienced were the institution of meals. All three meals in Guatemala are large meals. Her study program in school never includes the famous “study halls. Her school year begins in January and continues through October for this reason, Neca returned January 1, 1985. Although she enjoyed her stay, her Family and her boyfriend were sorely missed. Like the typical American woman, Neca was thrilled with her daily meditation at the television — “The Guiding Light.” Although she enjoyed attending football and basket ball games, Neca enjoyed our television coverage. Living with the Sweet Family was a special joy to her with so large a family of “brothers and sisters” since she has only one sister. Although her career plans are not yet definite, she is most interested in psychology. Neca said upon interview that she will miss the Sweets; Mimi”, the dog; her friends from WCS, and, you guessed it — “The Guiding Light. “Warrensburg has been so kind to me. I am especially thankful to each of you — especially my Sweet Family — for making my visit here so happy.
