Some four years ago we entered Warrensburg Central as timid, wondering students. Would we ever be “Up Where We Belong”? Almost immediately, Mrs. Marquardt became a teacher to just a few of us. Then, class meetings ensued. Quickly, we realized her gift as our teacher, advisor, and friend. Her dedication, loyalty, and encouragement helped us achieve many of our goals. Joined with her fair-mindedness and understanding, she established a firm bond with, and gained respect from our class as a whole. Thanks to Mrs. Marquardt, we are “Up Where We Belong!”, and here to stay. We, the Class of 1984, dedicate to you, Mrs. Marquardt, the 1984 Hackensack, in honor of your dedication to us! We, the Class of 1984, would like to express our sincere appreciation to the Reverend Father C. Michael Abraham, or simply “Mr. A”, as he is best known to all of us. Six years ago, we had the opportunity to be known as squirrels in his sixth grade class. Now, six years later, we have been blessed with him as our yearbook advisor. His kindness, consideration, dedication, and love to all of us have not only made this yearbook a success, but have left many happy memories for each of us to treasure in our hearts forever. He is yet another person whose devotion has helped to put us “Up Where We Belong. We, the Class of 1984, thank you, Mr. Abraham, for your encouragement, love, and the “good times.” ROBIN E. 'Thank, uoukor a our support anol ycrurfine examples. , O Dr. John E. Cunningham, Jr. is a graduate ot the Warrensburg Central School in the Class of 1950. His Father, Dr. John E. Cunningham, Sr., has served the Community of Warrensburg for many years as the medical doctor, confidant and friend of the community. His late Mother. Helen Cunningham, was a member of the English Depart- ment in Warrensburg Central School until but a few years before her untimely death. With such fine examples, Dr. “Jack” felt that he held the talent it takes to become the fine doctor that he now is. One of his many patients proudly states: It is a great comfort to know that I have an internist with the expertise, the bed-side manner and the vibrancy of Dr. Cunningham. For so many years I have had to seek the medical excellence in centers so very distant; Dr. “Jack’s presence makes emergencies so much more comfortable.” He began his baccalaureate training at Notre Dame University. His academic standing was worthy enough to be accepted into the medical studies at Albany Medical College. Following these four years, one year of internship, and three years of residency, he was commissioned for thirteen years as a Medical Officer in the United States Navy. He began his own practice in internal medicine in 1970. During these recent thirteen years, his medical practice has grown to a point where he now owns his professional arts building adjacent to the Glens Falls Hospital. In addition to his private practice, Dr. Cunningham is also a resident physician on staff of the Warren County Home. Being Up Where We Belong is a success example of Dr. Cunningham to which we can all aspire. 73 Mrs. Ruth Mundy Bruce graduated from Warrensburg Central in 1962. She attended Russell Sage College and is presently enrolled at Skidmore. She was active with the Head Start program as a co-teacher until the position of sole assessor became vacant. When asked why she chose this position, she replied. It chose me! She was elated when appointed and found it a challenge. She believes in fairness and finds there are many misunderstandings of her work as assessor. In meeting many people, she finds that she learns about people from all facets of life. Mrs. Bruce returned to the Warrensburg area because it was her home town and she wanted a small town atmosphere to raise a family. She has many pleasant memories of Warrensburg Central, such as the social interaction with students, cheerleading, plays, the Senior trip, band experiences, and the yearbook. She enjoyed school very much and was very active. Mrs. Bruce said that her strongest influences in life during high school were her Christian faith, her husband. Jerry, and her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Bruce are well-known for sponsoring many award banquets for sports and acacemic achieve- ment. They both are very well respected in the town and surely are “Up Where We Belong. Mr. Gary Baker graduated in the Class of 1969. He joined the United States Army Reserve and served six and one-half years. He now owns his own business as a general contractor. Mr. Baker’s strongest influence in life during high school was Tom Sprague. His most pleasant memory of Warrensburg Central School was his shop classes. His enjoyment of these building courses and shop classes helped him choose his career. When Mr. Baker was attending school, he sometimes became discouraged and wanted to give up. He found school hard but believes it was worth it in the long run. He uses the theory of not giving up in his work now. and he finds it successful. Mr. Baker is “Up Where We Belong because of his success. 74 Mr. “Jack” (John) Arehart graduated in the Class of 1958. He joined the U.S. Air Force and served for four years. In 1965 he began his profession as a resort owner at Thousand Acres. In addition to Thousand Acres, he now owns the Sit’n Bull Dude Ranch. His reason for choosing this profession was that he had grown up with it and found it a logical step to take. It is a family business and he enjoys it very much. Mr. Arehart had traveled all over the country, but returned to Warrensburg. When asked why. he recalled missing the country life, the hills, and the mountains. He was quoted as saying. “I feel that students growing up in a small community have good opportunities for extracurricular activities. They can't get lost in the shuffle and they learn alot.” He feels education in Warrensburg is more personally informed that other high schools. He said he enjoyed basically all the activities during his high school years. He felt his strongest influences in life during that time were his parents, and teachers such as: John Wappett. George Khoury. and Frank Cameron. Mr. Arehart hosts many enjoyable dinners at Sit’n Bull, many of which are for various activities at W.C.S. He is well-respected in town and is surely “Up Where We Belong. Mr. Roger Langworthy graduated from Warrensburg Central with the Class of 1958. He then obtained a two- year degree from Mohawk Valley Technical Institute. His career first began as a part-time job at Continental Insurance. When asked his reason for choosing it. Mr. Langworthy replied. It chose me! He is now employed full-time by Continental. He had decided to return to the Warrensburg area because of his family and because he wanted to get back to the country. Mr. Langworthy’s most pleasant memory of W.C.S. is its teachers, and he said his strongest influence was a coach. In closing. Mr. Langworthy commented. One must believe that luck is a residue of design. This design is surely to place ourselves with him — “Up Where We Belong. 75 Mrs. Jane O'Connor Rogers graduated in the Class of 1979. She was granted an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point. She attended West Point for four years with specialized training and received a Bachelor of Science Degree. Mrs. Rogers's reasons for choosing her profession as a United States Army Officer were in having a definite job; West Point offered her more than academics. She was given opportunities to travel, experience training in tanks and helicopters, with various weapons, or merely with no weapons other than her body. She felt a sense of close friendships at West Point - bonded by good and bad times, and struggling together. She was offered the opportunity to grow and mature by exposure to many exper- iences. different leadership styles, and leading her peers and subordinates. Mrs. Rogers’s most pleasant memories of Warrensburg Central School were her close friendships and sports. She said her strongest influences in life during high school were her parents and a select few teachers who gave her encouragement. She says she likes Warrensburg. but only returns to visit. Mrs. Jane O’Connor Rogers set many good examples for our school in her days at Warrensburg and certainly contributes to being Up Where We Belong. Mr. Bob Alger graduated from Warrensburg Central in 1972. He attended Ithaca College and then transferred to S.U.N.Y. at Brockport. where he graduated with a four-year degree in Political Science. Mr. Alger returned to Warrensburg because he knew there was an opportunity for business here. He is now in his fifth year of ownership of Warrensburg Fruit, and says he chose the profession because. It was the best paying job around. He also commented on a desire to someday expand his business for winters in Florida ... an even greater business opportunity! When looking back on his years at Warrensburg Central School. Mr. Alger most fondly remembers Coach Khoury, his strongest influence, and meeting people from other schools while playing sports. Being Up Where We Belong is surely Bob Alger’s success story. 76 Mr. Bruce Jordan graduated from Warrensburg Central School in 1970. He attended Dartmouth College and received his Bachelor of Arts Degree. Because of his fine academic achievements at Dartmouth College, he was accepted at Albany Law and earned his Doctorate of Juris Prudence. He is now a successful attorney in the Warrensburg - Glens Falls area. Mr. Jordan chose this profession because of its flexibility and independence. He said that Mrs. Helen Cunningham was his strongest influence in life during high school because she convinced him to go to Dartmouth. His most pleasant memories of Warrensburg Central School were in athletics. He remembers winning the big games, particularly sectionals. He returned to Warrensburg because he liked the people and the natural community. He thought that this community did much for him and wanted to return something to them. Mr. Jordan is well respected in our town and is surely Up Where We Belong. Mr. Jack Toney is a 1960 graduate of Warrensburg Central. Following graduation, he attended Paul Smith’s College, then transferred to Albany Business College where he received an Associates Degree in Business. He returned to Warrensburg because he liked the Lake George and Gore Mountain area. He now owns his own business and is most successful. The business was begun by his father, and he chose to continue in his footsteps. Mr. Toney's most pleasant memory of Warrensburg Central School is playing sports. He feels his strongest influences were Phil Roberts, the Industrial Arts teacher; John Wappett. the Social Studies teacher; Stan Cranker. Physical Education teacher; and George Khoury. Director of Athletics. Mr. Toney was quoted as saying. Kids should appreciate what they have now. We have alot more than many other places. Mr. Toney's constant support has been greatly appreciated in Warrensburg and certainly places him Up Where We Belong. 77 THE CELEBRITIES From pages 78 and 79 A B How's the weather down there? When we began work last spring. I never dreamed what putting it together would actually be like. We were so organized . . . we thought ... We worked on our ideas all summer and began putting them together in September. For me. it was difficult at first because I didn’t know a Copy’’ sheet from a “Layout” planner; but Mr. Abraham and Deb always were the brains — I worked out to be the “muscle!” We had our share of fun (“car cruising.” pizza parties, chocolate chip cookies, salt-n- vinegar chips, and all that diet COKE!!!), but there was a lot of hard work involved, too. I want to thank Mr. Abraham. Mrs. Marquardt. and Deb for their patience, time, guidance, and friendship. Starting as a team, we were great; now we’re almost family. Mom and Dad. your trust and support (and the car) have been fantastic. Thank you; I love you! To the community; we could not have done without your support and patronage. Thank you also. Last but not least, immense thanks go to Mr. Richard Durling of Moreau Studio in South Glens Falls, for his extreme generosity and expertise concerning photog- raphy. Together with Mr. A. Mrs. Marquardt. and the rest of the staff. Deb and I have worked to make this yearbook a success. When we. and the other members of the Class of 1984. look back to our Senior year at W.C.S.. we can say that our yearbook showed us all Up Where We Belong.” When I agreed to be co-editor of the yearbook. I never realized the memories, challenges, and enjoyment involved in the production of a yearbook. Being only slightly familar with the format of a yearbook. I started in the summer, a little nervous, yet anxious to learn. By September we thought we progressing extremely well and had made a very basic ladder diagram of the Hackensack “84. We never realized how often this would be subject to change. There are many people that should be thanked. First, we thank our advisors. Mrs Marquardt and Mr. Abraham. Their guidance, love, and patience have helped make this yearbook a success. Secondly, we thank the parents of the students of Warrensburg Central School. The support and cooperation have certainly been appreciated. The students have parents to be proud of. I know my parents are surely precious. My family’s patience with my sched- ule and their support through the good and bad times have helped me in many situations. I don’t know what I’d do without them. I love them. Thirdly. Mr. Richard Durling of Moreau Studio has put much care, concern, and expertise in the photography of the Hackensack 84”. He deserves a very special thanks. Fourthly, the community of Warrensburg should be recognized. The support and patronage throughout my school years have been greatly appreciated. Warrensburg surely has something to be proud of. Last, but certainly not least, my fellow classmates are thanked. The memories and dreams throughout my high school well never be forgotten. Mr. A. Robin and I have spent many long, hard working hours on the Hackensack “84. I am surely going to miss the meetings. We have become a family — one could say — and as a member of this small family I am proud to say the Hackensack “84” is a great success. Love, Mom Kelly - You kept us in suspense for thirteen years! We're proud of you, kid. Cindi - We want to express our love to our daughter for trying so hard to please us and complete some hard years in high school. Are of the special days we shared when you were very small. And even though you’ve grown up now, and time has changed some things. It can never change the warmth and love our Precious Kelly brings. Love always Mom and Dad Kelly (sister’s message) - As children, we lived together, we fought, we laughed, we cried. We did not always show the love that was growing deep inside. We shared close joy and sorrow, we shared much happiness too. Living through the good and bad times, is what bonded me to you. We grew to find we have a love that is special in every way. It is warm and tender love, that is very strong today. You are my sister not by choice, but through the nature of our birth. I could never have chosen a better sister, you are the best on earth! Love, Tiffany Rachel - May your future life bring as much joy and happiness as you have brought to ours. Reach for the stars! Love you. Mom. Dad, Leah, Smudges, and Pandora Sharine - Let your future be as bright and hold as much for you as your school years have. Always stay as happy and keep that positive attitude you have today and you will go to the top. We are proud to have you as our daughter. Daily -Wine and Beer- JUDY FARRELL SCHERER December 22, 1952 ------------February 4, 1984 On Saturday Evening, February 4, 1984, a tragic accident grasped the earthly life of JUDY FARRELL SCHERER. Our school and our community wish to make her memory eternal by commemorating her life, her dedication, and her example to her Family, to our Community of Warrensburg, and to the Warrensburg Central School. We, the HACKENSACK of 1984, thank you, Judy Farrell Scherer. We continue our love despite our earthly loss in making your memory eternal in this HACKENSACK. Your pupils and your colleagues eulogize your yet continued presence in our words: “Mrs. Scherer” In memory of Mrs. Scherer, The one we love so very dear. Every time you'd see her smile, It seemed to have a special style. For everyone she did care, And with everyone she did share. Lots of support she did give, That’s the way that Judy lived. Although in stature she was small, But with her love she seemed so tall. Our hearts would grow when she was near, And that was our Friend, dear Judy Scherer.” WARRENSBURG CAR CARE 158 Main Street Warrensburg, N.Y. 12885 WARBJEN PRINTING Auto Repairs And Car Grooming 518-623-2276 31 WARREN STREET WARRENSBURG, N.Y.
