Coach’s secretary . . . Headed for New Paltz, ec$ A few months ago we drew out our life savings and started on a shoestring tour of the world. Little did we think that we would meet so many of our former classmates in the Class of '52. We spent a day in New York before our ship sailed, and we decided to do the town. First we decided to have our hair done in one of those exclusive Fifth Avenue salons. As we entered, we were attracted by apetiteblond beautician at the other end of the room. As she came toward us, we recognized her as the quiet member of our class, Lucy Mosher. She told us that she was married to a handsome barber in the same shop. Lucy also told us that Libby Mens ha usen had been in the shop recently. Lib is now Vice-President of the Grand Union Stores, and she travels all over the country checking up on the local managers. We always knew that anyone who passed history tests would succeed. For lunch we decided to try out one of the swank restaurants, and as we spotted one, Laura cried, Look, Montena's Club. I wonder if-- and sure enough, Montena’s Club was owned by none other than Gene, who had developed a mania for cooking. We knew he didn't spend so much time in the Home Ec. rpom just because he was hungry. He told us that he had been back home to Warrensburg the week before, and he had seen Maurice Mykel. Maurice was working at the fish hatchery, but the job was just temporary due to a setback in a poker game. Gene had also seen Janet Havron, who runs an orphan home in Lee Center; Pat Rumble is also there, and she runs a bureau for dateless fellows on Saturday night. Due to a shortage in girls, Pat herself, fills in quite often. The next day we boarded our ship and set sail for London. As we stood on the deck, waving good-bye to New York, people began to crowd around a passenger next to us. May we have your autograph, Miss Polk? Alice wondered if the celebrity could possibly be Hermagene Polk, the famous novelist. As the crowd melted away, we recognized Miss Polk as another classmate, Pat Potter. Pat was on her way to London too, to give a lecture. She told us that Carol De Garmo was there and that she was going to meet her when the boat docked. Carol was standing at the edge of the dock when we arrived, and that evening she took us out to dinner at a cosy English tea shop. She told us that she was a stenographer at Buckingham palace for the royal family and that she attended aU the fancy balls with royal escorts. (Some plush, huh?) Early the next morning we left by train for Paris. We were enjoying the scenery when we noticed a little boy coming toward us. His hands were covered wiht melted chocolate, and we tried in vain to escape from him. Then, a voice called to him, and his mother came running up the aisle. Ruth Anselmo, we cried. Ruth explained that she and her husband (kinda rich we think) and their four children were on a vacation and were on their way to the French Riviera. Ruth told us about a big parade she had seen a few days before. It was in honor of the U.S. Ambassador to Upper Mongolia, our own Dan France. Dan had just attended a big conference in Washington with the President. Our first evening in Paris, we went to a daring French play called Amour. It starred another of our old classmates; that Incomparable French and Spanish actress, Judy Gonzalez. After the performance we went back stage to see hex. She was surrounded by an array of flowers and admirers. She told us that she had taken French lessons at a large university and her teacher had been none other than Charlie Hastings. I guess Mr. Mallery really inspired him back in high school. 36 Our trip wouldn’t be complete until we had visited an art museum, so we made that our next stop. As we gazed at the pictures, we noticed one which looked very familiar. As we took a closer look at it, we recognized the graceful signature in the corner which read Jean Raymond. We got the address from a guide and dashed over to Jean's studio. After a long discussion about our high school days, Jean told us about John O'Connor. She had saved some newspaper clippings, and we were amazed at the headlines, Engineer builds first bridge across the Atlantic. That fit John all right; he was always doing the impossible. Our money was running low so we decided to hitch-hike back to the states on John's bridge. We were in luck because along came a big shiny Cadillac and picked us up. The driver, Doug Smith, was on his way home after a very successful business deal in Europe. When we asked what it was, Doug replied that he had been selling pencils door to door. (That’s some salesmanship) On our arrival in Washington the trip was ended. Laura had to return to her job as dean of Hanley College, which she founded with the money left over in our treasury after the Wash- ington trip. Alice also had to return to her job as head nurse at a large hospital where all the government officials go. If you ever get in trouble, Alice can get you outl Now Marg heads to Oregon where she lives on a ranch with hex family (fifty dogs that is). Her job as state senator keeps her pretty busy, especially since she is sponsoring a bill to eliminate geometry from high schools. Seeing our old classmates has been so much fun. If our prosperity continues, maybe our ten-year reunion will be at the Waldorf Astoria.
