Vol. 8 Worrensburg Missouri Wednesday November 23 I949 No. 3 WHS Wms est Central Conference Mary Ann Slgrlst Rowena Bobbltt Joan Hardmg tQueenD Mary C Mc Klnney I Crown Thee By Martha Caldwell The flags were flymg hlgh The band marched onto the fleld The n1ght was beaut1ful because the moon had pushed the clouds a Slde as though they were double doors The crowd became s1lent and anx1ous A green convertlble crulsed around the field and stop ped at the east entrance Four gxrls stepped from the car These Queens walked across the field and through an alsle prepared by the band The drums began to 1011 The atmosphere was tense A fanfare blared out 1nto the st11l ness of the nlght The candldates pproached the throne The Queen h1t xts stepped of red a VV' of wh1te carnatlons on the Queen s head and announced As captam of the football squad I crown Joan Hardmg Homecom1ng Queen When the wa1t1ng and tenslon xx ere over I thought of the events o' the precedmg week Early 1n the week each class m sen1or 111gh had nom1nated a candldate for Homecomlng Queen Th1s year for the first tlme the W Club chose a candldate also Posters lmed the cor1'1dors unt11 they resembled a l-fall of Fame Dlfferent methods were used to persuade students to vote for the RIGHT Queen At 2 30 on th1s sunny afternoon was seated The evemng cl1max as John We1tze1 forward placed a crown carn'1t1ons centered wlth of November 11 the Homecommg parade started 1ts two mile Jaunt Behmd the band came the floats and other entrles and each queen 1n a oonverltble Behmd the sen 1or float rode Rowena Bobb1tt the sen1or queen Mary Ann S1 grlst the Jumor queen was 1n a convertlble behlnd the Jumor float After the sophomore entry rode Mary Canolyn McK1nney and af ter the W Club float rode the1r candldate for Queen Joan Hard 1n After an over whelmmg vxctory cryone returned to the hlgh school to d1scover the gym masked ln the costume of a dance floor The at mosphere was dreamy In the back ground a symbohc T1ger was set to l1fe by a spotllght the only hghtmg 1n the room The punch and C0Ok1eS furnlsh ed by the Student Councll added sp1ce to the evenmg for those hungry 1nd1v1duals The Queens and thelr escorts began the dance The excltement and tenslon of the evenmg finally subs1ded and from thelr attractlve settlng couples made thelr way home ward to dream of another year cf Homecomlng gone by A relgn mg Queen has been crowned The hghts have been turned down The dance has begun and has end ed So untll next year Homecom mg IS over and done but never forgotten Tngers Defeat Holden To Clinch Tltle For the first tlme 1n the hlstory of our school W H S th1s year won und1s'puted first place IH the VVest Central Conference The Txgers downed every conference foe Appleton C1ty C45 07 Clm ton 625137 Butler C26 77 Rlch H C51 OD Eldorado Sprlngs C31 65 Adrlan C48 OJ and Holden C40 OD The v1ctor1ous team w1ll recelve a trophy and 1nd1v1dual gold foot balls they w11l be honored at two banquets sponsored by theWClub and the Mule Sklnners By Wm n1ng the Holden game W H S was awarded the Holden War rensburg trophy for one year An all star team was chosen by the athletlc board on November 21 The follow1ng members of that team were W H S players Lee Adams end Don Parmley tackle Elbert Le1gh guard John We1t zel halfback Ron Heatherly half back Ralph Ross was chosen as center on the second team The Tlgers were coached by J D Copple MISSOUTI Valley All Star Th1s IS the second consecu tlve year under h1s gu1dance that W H S has placed 1n one of the three top brackets COMING EVENTS Not 24 25 Thanksglvlng H011 days Nov 30 Dec l 2 Mule Skmners Basketball Tournament Dcc 5 Joh11son County Prose and Poetry Contest Dec 8 Assembly at CMSC Dec 9 Sophomore Assembly Band and Choral Cl1n1c Dec 13 Basketball Lexlngton Here Sen1or Chlll Supper Dec 16 Basketball Cllnton There Dec 20 Basketball Holden there Dec 22 Basketball Raytown here Dec 23 Chrlstmas Assembly I I I I I , . , ., Z . - Y . - 1 ' 1 ' v . 111 - , ' 1 ' 1 I .
