Student Publication of WARRENSBURG HIGH SCHOOL V 8 Warrensburg Missouri Wednesday January I I No 5 DRILL TEAM PLEASES AUDIENCE The W H S drill squad per formed for the first time during the Raytown game The squad under the leadership of Jo Camp bell formed a lighted Christmas tree and sang Silent Night The second demonstration in perfect timing was presented Morrow Gymnasium durlng the CHS WHS game The squad :form ed a W and a C after which the respective school songs were sung The girls have spent a great deal of time practicing on the drills and have shown much in terest in their work You re do ing fine girls keep up the good work THE 1950 ARROW The 1950 Arrow is on sale ev ery noon in the downstairs hall The staff lS making every effort to produce the best yearbook pos sible The Arrow IS an investment not an expense Get yours be ore its too late' PATCH TEST All students in elementary and Junior senior high school were given the patch test for tubercu losis The patch was applied January 9 and removed January 11 All positive reactions will be follow ed by chest X rays NEW BOOKS ARRIVING Be watching the bulletin board in the study hall for the bright covers of new books which are arriving for our library For the sports fans there are five new titles being catalogued For the more adult readers there will be two Keyes selections and the cur rently popular MARY by Asch Watch iuture SPIRITS for the complete list One should pity the blind but 11. IS hard to do 1f the rascal IS a referee COMING EVENTS January 13 Basketball game Rich H111 here Assembly music department January 16 Basketball game Adrian there boys and girls January 17 Basektball game K1ngsv1lle here girls 20 Basketball game there 24 Basketball game Clinton here January 26 Junior play January 27 Basketball game Appleton C1ty there January Lexington January NOW THIS IS WHAT REALLY HAPPENED The lights were out' There was no heat' Corsages had been de livered Many were disappointed by the fact there was to be no dance' But no there was a Christmas dance the girls did arrive sw1shy formals and the Dance it was not held 1n the W H S gym Through the generosity of the Elks Lodge the Christmas dance was held in the Elks hall We owe many thanks to that organization for making it possible for the annual Christmas dance tradition to be upheld MUSIC EDUCATORS MEET The annual meeting of the Mis souri Music Educators ASSOCIH tion was held in Joplin Missouri January 5 6 and '7 W H S was represented by Mr Fendorf and Lonnie Ann Woodruff the latter playing the oboe in the all state orchestra which was composed of outstanding musicians from the high schools of MISSOUFI The or chestra rehearsed on Thursdav played for convocation on Friday and was combined with the all state chorus for a concert Satur day It was directed by Elizabeth Green Professor of Music Edu cation at the University of M1Chl gan BRINGING UP FATHER For twenty five years George McManus has headed the list of Americas ace cartoonists and It was Bringing Up Father that has brought him his lasting re nown Bruce Brandon New York playwright has increased the popularity of McManus famous creation by producing a del1ght ful comedy by the same name J1ggS Mahoney henpecked hus band is as usual the center of attraction J1ggs 1nv1tes h1s corn ed beef and cabbage loving friend D1nty Moore to live in his New York home Maggie a self styled aristocrat feels D1nty is too com mon and violently objects to his presence Fuel is added to Mag g1es blazxng fire when she dis covers a lady s slipper and a com pact containmg an intimate note in J1ggS coat pocket Although Jiggs IS completely innocent his every move seems to prove Just the opposite he becomes 1nvolved with two young ladies of the same name one of whom owns the var ious articles found in his pocket A new woe is added when he pass cs a boy next door off to Pa tricia as a French count The final b ow lS struck when he receives a telegram saying that he is bank rupt The way in which his prob lems are ironed out IS as zany as IS the way in which he managed to obtain them Bringing Up Father will be presented by the Jumor class at 8 00 p m on January 26 in the high school auditorlum Mrs Lois Carter director has chosen the cast as follows Maggie Mahoney the social but ter'ly Martha Caldwell J1ggS Mahoney down trodden hus band Pete Weitzel Patricia Ma honey their charming daughter Carol Frost Oswald their haugh ty butler Phillip Houx D1nty Moore Jiggs old pal from Du buque Billy Caster Mrs Spauld mg Underdunk a society matron CCont1nued on page 33 ol, , ' ', , I , 950 . ll ll - , . . . .
