Not exactly a banner year for Warren Wilson soccer, with a record of 1-12-1. The loss of Jim Herlinger last year, and Hank Steinbrecher the year before, meant this year's coach Tom Fisher was faced with a sizable responsibility. The end of the 1978 season saw the graduation of eight starting soccer players which made 1979 a year of building in more than one respect. Several freshmen had to take up the slack and I feel they did a tremendous job. Steve Bradley, Ronnie Normand, Steve Sabia, and Tim Deuitch will be seasoned veterans by their sophomore year, a plus to next yearis team. As a four year veteran of Warren Wilson soccer, who has played under three coaches, I would have to say that this year was the most disappointing. But it was not a total loss. The twelve or thirteen players who finished the season certainly learned a lot and I enjoyed having each one as teammates. One of my most memorable moments will always be seeing Dianna Bear Young running onto the field to play mens intercollegiate soccer. To my knowledge she is the only woman to play for a mens team. What Dianna lacked in physical size and experience she certainly made up for with a genuine desire and determination to play. I wish all the luck in the world to next year's team and I hope Warren Wilson will continue playing soccer with spirit, because playing soccer is fun. Duncan Grosboll

Under the encouragement and guidance of coaches Dean Kahl and Bob Yeager, all of the returning team members improved their best previous times. Newcomers Danna Scott, Mark Burkey, David Mu- chane, and Bob Wilson added strength to the team and fell right into the spirit of the B.B.R.M. fBig Blue Running Machinej. This year the women faced some tough competition from Clemson U. in South Carolina, Radford and Liberty Baptist Colleges in Virginia, and the Asheville Track Club. CRecord: 0 Wins, 5 lossesj. The men's team ran against Mars Hill, Radford, Milligan, and Wingate Colleges. fRecord: 1 win, 5 lossesj. In addition to intercollegiate meets, team members en- joyed participating in a number of road races, such as, the Greenville October- fest, the North Carolina 10,000 meter road racing championship, and the Parkway Pant. Perhaps the best memories of the season though are the many after- noons spent running along the scenic trails and roads both on campus and in the surrounding countryside.
