Best friends could be seen passing each other notes, cutting classes together, or sharing lockers where they met throughout the day. Neighbors, teammates, club members and band students developed relationships with their own kind. Band members, for example, were together 5,6,7, 8 8th periods so naturally time played a role in forming this group. Couples were different. Some kids went steady for lengthy periods of time, each always hurrying to meet the other before and after classes. Other kids avoided long- term relationships and stuck to casual dating.
