Libertyville, 1OAWarren 6 Libertyville, lll., Oct. 20, 1938-Warren met her first defeat of the season at Libertyville, when the 'iWildcats scored in the last seconds on a long pass to Strand, The 'Blue Devils led except for a few minutes in the first quarter when the Cats scored a field goal. In this game, Zim flipped a neat pass to McCann who was waiting for it back of the goal line. Steady, aggressive line play by the Cats kept Warren's offense bottled up most of the day except for occasional long gains. Except for fine defensive play by Balmes and Iackson, Warren seemed to be having a listless day and was content to hold the 'lCats only near their goal line. Lake Forest, 30-Warren 7 Lake Forest, lll. Oct. 27, 1938-The speed of O'Hara and Peschman was too much for the llBlue Devils as they bowed to Lake Forest, 30-7. Warren scored first in the second quarter by a twelve-yard plunge by Thompson. Beshel pushed the extra point over. Lake Forest then opened up by a sixty-eight yard run by O'f-Iara for the first score for Lake Forest. The point after touchdown failed. Lake Forest came right back again with a down- field drive which gave therri their second score with Peschman going over, making the score l2 7 In the third quarter a fumble by Warren was recovered by Lake Forest, O'Hara sprinted eighty yards to score again. Anderson scored the next touchdown by a shoe-string pass and after a flare of passes and end runs, put the oval on the ten-yard stripe. A pass from Peschrnan to Anderson scored. Offara scored the final touchdown by tak- ing a pass from Peschman. The score remained 30-7. With one exception, the starting line was made up of freshmen and sophomores The same held true in the backfield as there was only one junior in that group As a large number of he-avyweights graduate this year many of these boys w.ll und oubtedly see action next year as heavies' . The lliles Center and Lake Forest games were the best of the season frorri lNarren s standpoint, as the whole team functioned well both on offensive and defense. Arlington and Northbrook presented large tearns through which our boys were unable to penetrate. The final game with Libertyville was a close battle all the way, with Libertyville scoring the winning touchdown with only three minutes to play. These games gave every boy on the tearn a chance to participate in at least two games. This experience will be very valuable as many of these boys must fill in to make up for those that move up to the heavyweight squad. The team showed very good defense for so early a game and with so little practice. ln the next game Lake Forests Lights , who went through the season undefeated, were more than a match for Warren, even though the team managed to hold the score 8-8 at the half The opponents superior speed and passing accounted for the score, 25-12. This score was 12-ll. ln the return game with the Iunior Wildcats , Libertyville fell for the second time, 23-18 ln this game, Warren showed great improvement in defense. The next conference game with Grant saw Warren's opponents Hred hot . Scoring sixteen points to the Iunior Blue Devils' in the first quarter, they led 18-3 at the half, and despite improved play on Warren's part, came out ahead 26-18. ln the Wauconda game at Wauconda, Warren dealt their opponents a one-point defeat by coming from behind in the closing minutes of play with the necessary points to emerge victorious 14-13. The Grant home game really made the Ulunior Blue Devils this year. Thoroughly beaten two weeks earlier, the team completely outplayed Grants 'Lights' in their best game to date. The score 10-8 in Warren's favor at half time, grew to a 28-12 victory with Grant scoring only one field goal during the second half. The return game with Antioch was the best of the season from an offensive standpoint. Every player on the squad broke into the lineup. The final score, 36-16, was the result of fine team play, with emphasis being placed upon the teams fast-breaking attack. The final game of the year against Wauconda resulted in a 32-12 victory.
