At the beginning of the season. Coach Heverin said “Do itand DO IT is what the team did winning the D .R .C. Champ- ionship. The key factors were the leader- ship of the sixteen seniors, hard work, commitment, and determination. The great desire to win was displayed by the Streaks in a few tough games where they had to come from behind to win. This season proved to be a glorious one for both the coaches and the players, lead by captains Ralph Sinkbeil, Albert Howe, Rob Plenge, Mark Fisher and Darryl Long. Coaches Dietzi, Paulus and Swinson along with head coach Joe Heverin, in his final season, turned the previous 3-6 team into an 8-2 power- house. The coaching staff brought out emotion and also pulled the team to- gether. These were needed ingredients for success in ’81. The Streaks started their ’81 campaign with a sound victory over Del. Val. The following week they crushed Belvi- dere 24-10 the preseason favorite to win the D.R.C. After Bel videre, Hackettstown handed the Streaks their only DRC defeat. The Streaks bounced back with victories over a strong North Hunterdon team and a tough South team. Their next victory came against Voorhees- a game in which the Streaks were under- dogs to the defending DRC champs. The Streaks kept climbing to the top with wins over Catholic and Warren County League opponent North Warren. The following week the Streaks were involved in the only home state playoff game in the school’s history, where they suffered a 29-12 defeat to the Bulldogs of Dayton Regional. This proved to be the weakest effort of the awesome Streak defense which was 1 in the the DRC allowing only an average of 6.3 points a game. The final week, the Streaks had a thrilling 21-16 victory over arch rival Hunterdon Central. The game clinched the Blue Streak tie for the DRC championship with Voorhees. This game was a fitting finish to an exciting season. Above: Senior Streak».
