TOP RIGHT: John Keggan spends a little time absorbed in a magazine. ABOVE: A familiar sight to many students, a school bus lumbers toward another stop, on its early morning route. 6 I didn't have much time to be bored. Sure, once in a while I had a few solitary moments in which to think. But for the most part, I've been busy—living each day as it comes. ABOVE: Nature’s peace and beauty are enjoyed by a student, who is sketching the scenery. ABOVE RIGHT: Theresa Bockman takes a moment from her daily routine to ponder beyond the walls and windows of Warren Hills. RIGHT: Another day of terrific weather is appreciated by Helen Hunter, who is just able to admire the cloudless sky for a moment before dashing to her next class. 7 What will my memories of the past year be like? Will my friends and I remember the same things, the same way? No, my memories are mine alone, because my viewpoint is always different from everyone else's. They are as unique to me as I am a unique person. TOP: Seniors Karen Kearns and Laine Ratsep have a laugh during a game of “Dungeons and Dragons , played by the G T English class. RIGHT: Greg Howe’s fears of defeat are realized in the 45-0 loss to North Hunterdon. uA. Mrs. Bowen continues class, with Chris Smith. Phil Coulomb, George Kapral, and John Eckel. 12 Still, I've been looking through my eyes, and can only rely on myself to recall the past year. It has to be from within me, as a memory, recalled through the perspective that I saw it. This is what makes me different, a true individual-my perspective. LEFT: A suave sergeant and a smiling sailor, are Kate Beckenthal and Suzanna Machado. ABOVE: Lisa Shotwell works on the LAMATON display, marking the beginning of the yearbook sales. ACTIVITIES BELOW: Lori Took and Amy Sylvester dressed up as munchkins on Halloween. RIGHT: Ken Bittner and Mrs. Fensel worked a lot for the Spanish Club fund raiser, which was the loll pop sales. RIGHT: Dave Kingsbury and Loretta Jones make a team effort during seventh period gym class. BOTTOM: Juniors Barb Peters and Renee Mcnear help to create enthusiasm among the spirited Juniors. STUDENT LIFE Student Life involves the activities of a student from morning until night. This includes in-school activities as well as after school jobs. Our school offers a wide variety of activities and extracurricular clubs. They are geared toward having as many people participate as possible. Assemblies such as pep-rallies are for the whole student body. Clubs are meant for students with specific interests. Warren Hills is much more than seven periods a day. 15 The War Rages On! ABOVE: The cheerleaders team up lo perform their zany routine. RIGHT: The seniors get carried away with their enthusiasm. The first pep rally of the year was a smash, or was it a scream? Besides being a source of encouragement for the various sports teams, pep-rallies got the student body involved. Pep-rallies have become a tradi- tion at our school. The first pep-rally is to get everyone charged for the opening football game. Although we lost our opener, it did not dampen the school spirit. Our second pep-rally occurred before the last home game. Our cheerleaders along with the band and the student body also made this a successful pep-rally. Spirit is making a comeback at Warren Hills. LEFT: Lynn Fluck and Kathy Herzog tackle Marcie Thompson during the flag football game BELOW Andy Dudiak. Todd Griffith, Derek Simpkins, and Greg Jayne put on a convincing imitation of our cheerleaders. Roles Switched On November 17, the Junior girls challenged the Senior girls to a flag football game. The Junior Steering Committee did a lot of arrangements for the game, including going to the School Board to ask permission. The Board was very receptive to the idea. Prior to the game, the Juniors and Seniors had a ticket selling contest, in which the winners would receive the Ag Shop steet as a mascot. The Juniors won the contest, but unfortunately, the steer didn’t bring much luck. The referees were Mr. Fiore, Mr. Schoonover, and Mr. Griffin. There was a nice sized crowd who came to watch the game and both classes split the profits. Each team had male cheerleaders. All of these brave guys put on an excellent performance for their respective teams. The Senior girls beat the Junior girls 37-22. It was a successful game and it is hopeful that Powder Puff Football will become a tradition at our school. LEFT: Lisa Grabenbauer kicks off to the Junior opponents with Lori Toole and Donna Bodine close behind. 17 First Annual Welcome Back Dance Successful This year the Student Council sponsored the First Annual Welcome Back Dance. The dance was in the cafeteria and the band was the Bad Boys. The dance went over very well and everyone enjoyed the music. The lighting and special effects added to the atmosphere. From now on, the Student Council plans a Welcome Back Dance every year. ABOVE: Debbie Ditmars and Cathy Shadis do a good job with the profits. UPPER RIGHT: Mr. Albrecht and Mrs. West shake a mean rug. RIGHT: Diane San- born and Carol Whitehead go to get something to drink from Dawn Perrine—for cottonmouth. 18 Smile You're on Candid Camera BH-OVt Brenda Fleming is suffering from too much school. RIGHT: Carol Whitehead keeps herself awake. “Thanks. I needed that!” Do these faces look familiar? We've caught some students expressing their feelings. Allen Funt, the well-known host of the CANDID CAMERA, would be proud of these pictures. These faces are not everyday occurrences so if you see these people, smile. LEFT: Lydia Delorenzo and Rose Cook practices smiling for their Senior portraits. 19 Behind The Scenes Most students do not realize the work that goes on behind the curtains during an assembly, play, or other presentation. There are, however, seven students who run the auditorium. These students are the Technical Staff. The Technical Staff meets twice a week after school in the auditorium. During this time, they clean the auditorium. The Technical Staff has other responsibilities. When Sammy Hall and Bob Corff came to our school, these students greeted them and represented our school. The Technical Director is Peter Kostrobala and he pulls the Technical Staff together. His assis- tants are the Assistant Technical Director, Head grip, head gaffer. First grip, and Second grip. Their moderator is Mr. Albrecht. RIGHT: John Roslewicz. Wayne Davis. Mike Dougherty. Ken Treankie. Pete Kostrobala. Missing Ed Reese 20 Transcender Speaks for Students Students of the Journalism II class put out a school newspaper. The Transcender allows students to air their feelings about almost anything. It gives the students the opportuni- ty to see all the facets of the newspaper business. There is more work involved in creating a newspaper than writing articles. Students are responsible for making interviews, devising layouts, typing articles, and sending them to the printer. Mrs. Cole is the newspaper advisor and Ward Connolly is the Editor in Chief. Under Ward, there are five editors. These editors are responsible for the front page, sports, editorial, and feature sections. Mildred Beasley enjoys working on the Transcender. Barb Bowen. Dawn Errickson. BACK ROW: Bill Levine. Donna Stcnger. Mike Finley, and Nancy Stengcr. This year was very successful for A. F. S. There were many activities to keep the A. F. S.ers busy such as selling food at football games, raking leaves, a bake sale, and an international weekend When attending a home football game, many people support A. F. S. by buying hot coffee, hot dogs, or many other items sold in the white booth next to the bleachers or on the porch behind the cafeteria. This is the largest project in which A. F. S. gets involved. Both A. F. S. groups, students and adults, work in this activity. A. F. S. is a worthwhile organization that deals with exchange students and international living. One bitter Saturday in October. Mrs. Cole. Colleen Szucs. and Andy Roy worked at the bake sale in town. Almost all the members dropped baked goods off in town and then left. While this was going on. Barb Bowen. Karen Kearns. Cathy Braun, and Bill Levine went raking leaves in the boro. It was a profitable morning. Dan Ames, a Senior last year, is spending a year in Holland with A. F. S. This is a unique experience. Dawn Oostdyk, a Senior this year spent last summer in Germany, and she loved it. ABOVE: Carol Schander. Dawn Oostdyk, Nancy Stengcr, and others listen during an A. F. S. meeting. LEFT: Bill Levine and Michele McCawley sell Pat Johansson food at the A. F. S. booth during a home game. 23 Beauty, Brains, and Belligerence You may wonder how beauty, brains, and belligerence tie in with these pictures. First the “beauty” refers to the radiant Kelly McNulty, Miss McNulty (right) has been placed on the best dressed list, after she came dressed in her Sunday clothes on the Senior Halloween dress-up day. Secondly, the brains” refer to the Gifted and Talented students playing dungeons and dragons (below). Here, Colleen Szucs, Joy Oostdyk, Cindy Aimer, John Natishan, and Allen Ponsini play this mind-boggling game while Mrs. Bell acts as a supervisor. Finally, the “belligerence is shown by a Warren Hills’ student's comment on world affairs (below). NUKE THEM TILLTHEY GLOW GOD fcfESS AMERICA 24 Keeping Busy After School There are many ways to spend spare time after school. These students, like many others, have part-time jobs. For these students, school and homework are only one phase of their day. Working is often tiring, but that too is an education. Part-time jobs for many students are just for earning extra money. For others, jobs provide experience for a future career, such as secretarial or hospital work. Many students find work as an important part of their day. 25 AV Team ... A Working Homeroom Did you ever notice three juniors pushing audio-visual equipment around school during homeroom? These students com- prise the AV (Audio-visual) Team. This is the only homeroom in the school where working is part of the homeroom agenda. Allen Ponsini, Henry Gas- coyne, and Bill Schuch all volunteered to work on the team. Miss Luff is their advisor. RIGHT: Allen Ponsini and Bill Schuch check out their schedule for the morning. BELOW: Bill Schuch. Allen Ponsini. To be inducted into the Society you must have above average grades and community references. If these requir- ements are met, the students application is reviewed by the NHS faculty commit- tee. If there are no objections, the student is accepted. The NHS student president, Barbara Bowen, called all the meetings together. At the meetings, the Society discussed their activities, such as the Rent- a-Teacher Day. The Rent-a-Teacher Day was a big success, as it has been in the past. All the money raised by the Society is given to the Warren Hills Scholarship Fund. Sue Henning. This may range from recreational therapist to nurse to medical doctor. The Medical Careers Club’s Advisor, Miss L’Hommedieu, retired in December, however, the students still had meetings on their own later. In September, the club had a car wash which was located at our school. While the car wash was in progress, some of the other members were running two bake sales, one in Washington and one in Mansfield. The winter retreat was located at Walpack Environmental Center. It was on January 11 and 12, and they had rain. The hike to Tillman’s Ravine was enhanced by rain. It was a unique experience for the entire group. The club took five ski trips to Camelback in January and February and a weekend ski trip to Sugarbush. The students that went were novice, inter- mediate and expert. The weather was cold but that added to the atmosphere. Many students have aspirations of going again next year. RIGHT: Doug Drcnnon, Ward Connolly, and Jim Stano wash a van during the car wash. Mr. Jacobson was the advisor. The purpose of German Club is for the students to learn more about German-speaking countries and to acquaint students with German culture. There were about fifty members involved this year. The Club's first activity was a German Luncheon at the Black Forest Inn in Stanhope, New Jersey. The many students that attended found the food delicious. The trip was educational and enjoyable. In April, the German Club took a trop to New York City. They visited The Cloisters, the Metropolitan Mu- seum of Art, and a German restaurant. The students found the entire trip very exciting. The Annual Christmas Fiesta was a huge success this year. The library was decorated by the Spanish Club with the theme of “Christmas in Mexico 1 and many pinatas were hung from the ceiling in addition to the decorations in the showcase. These ornaments added to the atmosphere of the party. The girls of the club wore native costumes to serve the refreshments. Spanish Club also provides tutorial services for those students who have problems in Spanish. The members had arts and crafts sessions at every meeting. The meetings were held every other Thursday. The Activities' periods were new to Warren Hills this year. The Student Council worked with the administrators to get this program started. During this period many clubs had the opportunity to have meetings. Also, intramurals were played in the gym. The Welcome Back Dance with the “Bad Boys in September was a huge success. The profits were used to pay for the previous year's Student Council aebts. The profits this year will be used to buy a gift for the school. Students in all three classes participated in the Bundle Drive. Hundreds of pounds of clothes were brought in and these clothes were donated to the Salvation Army. “Almost Anything Goes was the Student Council’s final activity of the year. The reason for this is to prevent any of the sectional editors from jumping out of the window and getting injured by the one-story fall. When deadlines come up, and they occur a few times during the year, a predetermined number of pages must be sent in from each section. It took Amy August, the Editor in Chief, to keep everyone’s head on straight. Mr. Nace is the advisor, and assisted everyone who needed help. Mr. Paliscak is the business advisor and put in a great deal of work with the financial side of the yearbook. RIGHT: Amy August, the Editor in Chief, coordinates proofs and negatives. A. is the Vocational Industrial Clubs of America. Mr. Bowen and Mrs. McCool planned the V. I. C. A. ski trip to Timber Hills, Canadensis, Pa. This was one of their many activities. In December, V. I. C. A. students invited a speaker from the Drug Rehabilitation House in Newark, New Jersey. It turned out to be a very interesting and enlightening meeting. At the end of the year, V. I. C. A. went to the junior high and spoke to freshmen that were interested in being in the C. I. E. program as seniors. They told the freshmen what courses would be good to take in the future, and talked to them about their goals. TOP: Floyd Werner. Dave Jones, and Wes Suydam organize pictures for the V. I. C. There were many new members this year and under the direction of Mr. Norcyzk, the members learned how to take pictures, develop them, print them and enlarge them. At the end of the year, the Photo Club collected all the excess pictures and sold them to the student body. The money was used to buy supplies for next year. 43 TOP SITTING: Kelly McNulty, Amy August. Tracy Sinkbeil. Sue Muth, MIDDLE ROW: Scott Graule. Mr. Norcyzk. Bill Levine. STANDING: Tammy Gutjahr. As well as doing the Annual Christmas and Spring Concerts, the chorus did some other recitals. Included was a performance for the Women's Club and the students at Oxford School. Practice procedure consisted of going over the songs the chorus would perform at their next concert. ABOVE: Greg Jayne demonstrates the interest of boys in the chorus. Play It Again, Sam Many new Sophomores joined the Stagehand this year. Although the Stagehand did not participate in as many competitions as usual, they continued to put on performances for the public. Its first public performance was in February at a covered dish dinner for band members and boosters. In March, the Stagehand entered competitions. On March 20, they played at Brass Castle School, and on April 15, they played for the Women’s Club. LEFT: Sophomore. Lolita Kluhs. rehearses with the stagehand for a concert. In its fifty-first year, the Future Farmers of America continues to play an active role in the student body. Pressing cider is done annually and sold in the school, as well as selling eggs from the chickens they raise. The club also participated in many contests at Rutgers University, including livestock, weeds, and fruits and vegetables judgings. The livestock judging team placed fifth in the state. STREAKS First Time in Twenty Years The 1979 Warren Hills football season was a disappointment for all concerned, as the Streaks finished with the poorest record since 1975. The major setback centered on the limited number of experienced senior players. The leadership of only eleven seniors including captains John Eckel. John Ferry, Gregg Howe, and Chris Pantuso, was not enough to offset the huge amount of returning league players. But the 1979 season was not a total disaster as the Streaks displayed their pride over two long time rivals, Belvidere and Philhpsburg Catholic. Belvidere proved to be the most exciting game of the season as the Streaks worked for a winning score of 19-8. This was a major upset victory for the Streaks, since it was the first time a Warren Hills-Washington football team has won on the Belvidere field since 1959. A major factor indicating a large degree of optimism for the future, is that more sophomores played in the 1979 season than ever before. Although this year's graduating seniors will be sadly missed, the prospect of next year's season looks bright. TOP RIGHT: Chris Schumann. Bill VanVeldhuisen. With the girls' hard work and determination they finished in second place in the Delaware River Confer- ence, losing first place by only one game. The team recorded twelve season shutouts breaking a school record. They also scored fifty goals in a single season, with their opponents only scoring thirteen. Their final record was 15-3-3, which was the best ever at Warren Hills. Under Genya Pantuso’s veteran coaching, the girls advanced to the NJISAA State Tournament. After defeating Mt. Olive by the score of two to zero, the team played Butler where its season ended. The final score was Butler one and Warren Hills zero. It was also the end of the brilliant coaching career of Genya Pantuso, who after thirteen years of coaching retired with an outstanding record of 105-49-33. After losing fourteen members from the previous season, almost the entire 1979 team had to be pulled from the JV ranks. Tom Landsbergen and Todd Darker were the only returning lettermen. Forming a team with players having two or less years of experience in organized soccer is quite difficult, especially when competing with players who began playing on the little league level. Due to this, the Streaks knew it would be an up hill climb. After a frustrating start, the team reached the point of competitive play towards the end of the season. The highlight of the season came in a very important game against Delaware Valley. Del Val needed a win to get into the state sectional playoffs. The Warren Hills Soccer Team, now confident enough to obtain victory, vowed not to let Del Val dominate the game. The Streaks stunned the Terriers with a 2-1 halftime lead. In the second half the Terriers fought back and regulation time ended in a 3-3 tic. The game then went into an exciting sudden death overtime. Although both teams threatened many times, no score was achieved and the game ended in a 3-3 tie Because of this tie. Del Val was ineligible for the state playoffs which provided much pride and satisfaction for Coach Jacobson who, along with other spectators believed the Streaks dominated the head to head confrontation on the field. Another achievement which is tremendous for a second year soccer team is league recognition. Three members of the team: Todd Darker. Tom Landsbergen, and Tony Pasquini. were recognized by the DRC coaches as outstanding soccer players. Varsity captains this year were Andy Dudiak, Tony Pasquini! and two time letter winner and this year's Most Valuable Player, Tom Landsbergen. Team determination and five returning varsity lettermen will hopefully steer the next year’s team to its ultimate goal, a winning season. Coach Griffin felt that there was a 100% improvement in the Junior Varsity team during the course of the season. This was verified by a late season win over North Warren and a tie with Hackettstown. Also, even in the games lost, the score differential improved as the season progressed. The J. V. team had a good nucleus and worked on perfecting their skills. This resulted from the addition of the very first Warren Hills Regional Girls Cross Country Team. The girls, led by freshman Mary Lou Tuttle, had a tough season due to their inexperience in the sport. The boys' team, led by senior Derek Simpkins and captain Chris Spatz, had a fairly successful season, finishing the year with 8 wins and 6 losses in dual meets. In invitationals and post season activity, the Streaks did very well. They placed first at the Centaur Invitational, third at the Bernardsville Invitational, and sixth at the Edison Invitational. The sophomore team placed first and the senior team placed third at the Dover Invitational. The Streaks also placed second in the D.R.C., fifth in the state sectionals, and eighth in the state group finals. TOP RIGHT: Warren Hills Cross Country Team. hRONT Andre Banks. The squads were labelled Blue and White, each consisting of ten members with two co-captains. The two squads united during the football season to cheer for our Blue Streak team. During basketball and wrestling, they split up—the White squad cheered for basketball, and the Blue squad cheered for wrestling. There was one tryout in the spring for the cheerleaders. The top ten scorers were able to choose what winter sport they desired to cheer for. The next ten scorers cheered for the other winter sport. The squads also joined together to offer support for our soccer team. TOP: Showing their faith in the Blue Streaks, the cheerleaders urge the football team on. In his first year as head coach, Mr. Kerr was faced with what was supposed to be a rebuilding season. In the heart of the New Jersey wrestling powers things can be very rough, but the 1980 wrestling squad rallied to a winning season with a record of 8-7. This year's team was led by the fine wrestling of co-captains senior Bruce Minnick (14-4) and junior Chris Thorsen (16-4). Both Minnick and Thorsen took first place in the Christmas tournament at 188 and 141 respectively. The squad had only two seniors; this gave many underclassmen the opportunity to gain experience on the varsity level. The underclass talent included Chris Schnaars, Don Quick, Angelo Perrucci, John Smith, John Wasser, Albert Howe, Scott Rhinehart, Ralph Sinkbeil, and Bill Ziadie. The foundation for a wrestling power which was built by the almost legendary John Goles will certainly be upheld in the years to come with Coach Kerr at the helm and the fine young talent coming up. This victory, along with the fine play of captain Dan Carmody, captured the eyes of all, and brought hopes of DRC Championship contention to Warren Hills. Early victories carried much excitement and enthusiasm to the spectators and team members alike. Although the team slackened off towards the end of the season, they closed out the season with an 8-12 regular season record while qualifying for the state tournament play-offs. The team was paced by senior captain and potential all-conference forward Dan Carmody. Dan was among the top performers in the DRC averaging an exceptional 24 points and 13 rebounds per game. He has gained wide recognition for his achievements and he has received a number of offers from various colleges. Side by side with Dan all season long was senior starter and good friend, Chris Pantuso. Chris, along with senior Kevin Siedt, has been with Coach Hayes since the beginning of his coaching days at Warren Hills, which began four years ago on the freshman level. Since then. Coach Hayes has progressed to the varsity level where he has completed his second year of coaching. With junior starters Jim Rapsis, Brooks Schott, Mickey Snyder and sophomore standout Joe Toole returning. Coach Hayes has much talent to work with, and things look very good for next year. These courses allow people to broaden their education beyond the humanities. Because our society is becoming more and more technology-oriented, these subjects are useful for future purposes. Two years of math are required before graduation. Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Calculus along with shop math, consumer math, and computer math are offered to all students. Two years of science are also required. Who will forget dissecting a frog, or discovering an unknown chemical through ion testing? This course prepares students for immediate employment in the competitive world of business, or for further education and training in business schools. New this year in the Business department is a TRS-80 Computer. It enables students to become familiar with computers and teaches them how to write and carry out programs. Home economics prepares students for the responsibility associated with family life. Child development is one course offered in home economics. Students are taught the various stages of child development, and are given the chance to deal with preschool children each week. In cooking classes students are given the chance to plan and prepare full meals which are centered around the importance of nutrition. The cooking program offers courses from gourmet to foreign foods. Sewing includes many projects, from making quilts to the latest fashions. Topics flow into intimate discussions like water into the seas . . . English class is a time of discovering new ideas and personal viewpoints. At different grade levels, studies are chosen that coincide with the capabili- ties of the students. Literature, grammar, poetry and vocabulary are studied. These sections give the student a well-balanced education of the English language. The Foreign Language department at Warren Hills gives the students the opportunity to open new doors to the outside world. They can understand the hardships and trials a foreigner goes through when learning our language. The students are taught to express themselves with pride and dignity in the language of their choice: French, Spanish, German and Russian. Also a background of the customs and daily lives of these countries are taught. 104 Watch Your Language TOP: Mrs. Bowen gives John Eckel an animated explanation of the passage under consideration while Larry Freeman observes. Students who enjoy music, either instrumental or vocal, are able to take band or chorus as a class. These classes allow the students not only to learn, but to express themselves musically. This is what develops the feelings of self- satisfaction and accomplishment. And when concert time comes, the students put forth their best. This happens twice a year, at the Christmas Concert and at the Spring Concert. Both were a success this year. Art class provides the opportunity for individuals to express themselves creative- ly. Students take different courses concerning their area of study. Ceramics, leatherwork, macrame and painting are some of the projects that the students get involved in. Often their works of art are seen on display in the school library. ABOVE: The band endeavors lo make one of its best Spring Concerts. Some of them are required and some are optional, but all provide the student with an opportunity to increase his knowledge. U.S. History I and II are a must in the students’ schedule prior to graduation. These courses teach the student about our country’s past, and prepare them for the future. Advanced Social Studies is concerned with the structure of our government. Sociology and Psycology present an awareness of yourself and also enables you to understand those around you. World History teaches the student about various parts of the world. Its past and present cultures and traditions and presented. Social Studies provides a sound foundation in appreciating the past, living in the present, and discovering the future. LEFT: After finishing his History assignment. RIGHT: Dawn Oostdyk enjoys dancing during G.T. class. 110 Gifted and Talented Much thought and consideration was put into the planning of the Gifted and Talented Program instituted this year. Many people asked why a special program anyway? It does seem that people with special gifts and talents are discovered or make it on their own, but what happens to the high school student who excels in history, art, and English, and wants to go beyond the regular class activities? A young person with an interest in an area where there are no avenues of pursuit available, is wasted. Thanks to the all-out efforts of a group of teachers, students in the areas of art, history, and English, who want to advance, excel, and deepen their knowledge, can do so. To make sure each student who is recommended, or who volunteers to sign up is self-motivated and talented enough to get something out of the class, special tests are required. The reactions this year to the G T Program from the students mixed. Some thought it was a fantastic idea, and expanded in the freedom which they were allowed. Other students were disappointed that the classes weren’t more like the regular class structure they were used to. Most students did benefit from the experience, because they had the freedom to choose what they wanted to study under the class’s general area. Mr. Sterlachini was in charge of the G T history class. Futurism, governments, the early 20th Century, and the ’60’s were among the topics individually studied. Mrs. Bell and Mrs. Margaret Bowen headed the eleventh and twelfth grade G T English classes, respectively. The students acted out part of a Greek Tragedy, played “Dungeons and Dragons”, learned historic dances, and produced individual projects. Mrs. Kugelmeyer acted as G T Coordinator for Warren Hills, and spent much more time and energy than required of her, to make the program work. She also taught art class at the Junior High. This helped to expand the students' creativity in the art field. LEFT: Todd Darker and Bill Fullerton pay attention in class, while Tony Yapaola is distracted by a telephone call. The sophomore and junior years have been enjoyed by all students. This is the time when we have stopped to think . . . What do I want to do after I graduate? Early planning is helpful, especially if college is decided upon. This year’s sophomore class was very active. They had a magazine sale in the beginning of the year to add money to their class treasury. They also planned a class trip to Wildwood and Great Adventure. The junior class had two very successful fund raising activities. One was the annual candy sale and the other was the first Powder-Puff football game ever held at Warren Hills. It was excellent! “The end of this year is the beginning of something that goes very quickly (I hope!). I want them, the junior and senior years, to be memorable. B.M., M.P., G.R Juniors: “This year hasn’t been too good, but I'm hoping my senior year will be more exciting. “The past two years went really fast, and we’ve learned to appreciate the world and the United States. You know, what really hit me? I only have one year to go! Then that’s it. “I’ll be 18 in my senior year, and I have to think a lot about where I’m going. J.R., C.M., C.H. Seniors: “I can wait, but I can't wait. I want to graduate, but I want to learn as much as I can while I'm here. “Spring is our education (in school), summer is our adult years, and winter is our old age. Now we're entering summer. “Gradua- tion is the beginning of a new adventure. I can’t wait to go to college and meet new people. Many things I couldn't do in high school I can do in college. RIGHT: Sophomore Sue Muth cans her chemistry notebook at the end of the year. 198 To look over the past year through our perspectives is important. We see who we were relive our experiences, and learn from all we've done. More important, though, is to take time now to see who we are, and find a direction. The underclassmen already have a good idea what lies ahead for them. After the summer, another year or two of high school is inevitable, but the choices of sports, activities, and job involvement are there. As for the seniors, so much must be considered, college, marriage, travel, jobs, and fulfilling one's aspirations. Decisions are not always easily arrived at, especially when they are decisions that will affect the rest of our lives. Our perspectives individualize our futures as well as our pasts. Each one of us has a “picture in our minds of how we’d like our lives to be. It's just a matter of time before our “pictures become reality. Although the season was not successful, as far as wins, several individuals excelled. Rob Kerkendall was all Northwest Jer- sey. batting .429 and Wes Hann was voted all DRC as the desig- nated hitter. Also Gary Reed was an outstanding player as the leader of the pitching staff. The loss of 9 seniors will result in some rebuilding for the Blue Streaks next season. The team, coached by Paul Palis- cak was led to victory by senior captains. Lisa Grabenbauer. Donna Bodine and Diane Man- non. The girls attribute their suc- cess to a lot of hard work and determination. This hard work resulted in a tie for the DRC crown with North Hunterdon and Del. It was a very young team with hardly any returning experience, as evidenced in our record of one win and ten losses. Warren Hills did defeat Blair Academy. The bright spot of the season was the distance runners. Steve Noctor. Jim Gibson, and Greg Howe. All had outstanding seasons with Greg Howe going on to be a sectional and D.R.C. champion in the 800and 1500 meter runs. The team was captained by Greg Howe. George Kapral. and Chris Spatz. After the ceremony, a reception was held for the new NHS members and their parents. The members are chosen on the basis of their character, leadership, scholarship, and service. Some members use their service ability to tutor students haing trouble in certain subject areas. The NHS sponsors money raising projects and sets aside the results for student scholarships.
