'r CLASS PROPHECY It is a bright moonlit night in June of the year 2051 The air is crisp and clear, and the moonlight casts darting shadows among the mmrble head stones in the serene cemetery on the outskirts of the slumbering little town of Warren, l1Ch1gBD I stand surveying the cemetery, alert for the slightest movement, while awaiting the reunion of the Great Class of 1951 As I sit on a mossy boulder watching crowds walk in, I especially notice a misty little figure waddling through the high iron gate, yelling, 'O K Let's have it quiet in here ' As these famous words bounce from tomb to tomb all be comes quiet One of our sponsors has arrived' Slowly, though, the soft murmurings begin again As I listen, I hear old familiar names and recall the life t1me activities of the members of my dear, departed classmates First to my memory comes Joyce Sharpe, the famous stage cook, who died while chasing Bill Carr in the Broadway reproduction of 'Great Caesar's Ghost ' He had warned her about getting too close to him with that meat cleaver, and when she did, he tripped her Also, the first woman French professor at Yale, Orietta Laflamme, always had this advice for her students 'Messieurs, Cherchez les femmes ' Larry Detmers had his own studio, and Betty Kiser was his favorite model Betty Knoblock, we remember, spent the best years of her life on a ranch Jo Woodhouse finally founded her own potato chip factory, because it was too expensive buying them, and held the job of chief potato chip taster, as well Don Hoffman enjoyed his few years on earth as a truck driver for Dlck Proffer, who was considered the most successful truck farmer in this country Mary Ann Bartkoviak toured with Marty Lisiecki and his Jazz Band, and Ida Nyberg, who always liked the finer things in life, had her big moment the time she sang the leading role in Madame Butterfly, with Ronnie Marlow as chief butter fly catcher like Warner's love of sports landed him a life time job as jump-rope coach at Barbara Jenuwine's Nursery School As I drift along through the cemetery, another odd stone catches my eye It belongs to Clem Wolfrom and is made of golf balls, since he spent most of his life as a caddy on a golf course What have we here? Ray Riddle I remember him You know he always wanted to be a paratrooper but never quite made it Finally, he became a spring tester for Bob lcArter, who was a big furniture manufacturer Carrol Atwell played the part of John's other wife on the radio serial, Don Christensen was the station announcer like Robinet made a career for himself by managing fleets of toy dump trucks for little boys Bill Grogan spent his last years as a Senator from the State of Warren Charles, h1s brother, was his favorite page boy Ralph Ramus started a driver training school, but could never make a go of it because all his profit went into new telephone poles Shirley Bo1k became his partner, because she had taken lessons for so many years that it was cheaper that way in Mexico, raising little catus plants. CLASS PROPHECY fcont D B111 Brown became a member of one of the better hockey teams, employed as star skate polisher largie Brinker also became a model, only, she posed for Maybelline ads At one time her beautiful lashes grew to the incredible length of two inches Frenchie Tarkowski was a great news photographer, helped along by his sister, lary Ann, who set fire to buildings so that Frenchie could get scoops Edna Spanke trained midget wrestlers, with Joanne Olinski as her assistant Bob Thresher ended his life on the stage playing the part of Romeo, his Juliet, Delores Eveland, ended her life on the same stage They were both sticklers for reali m Next, I recall Betty Roth and Caroline lorang, who spent their lives teach ing bold girls how to be shy Bob lorosky and Stan Kaminski made polishing toy cars for kindergarten teach ers their life career The last time I saw Paul Hazelton and Bob Styers, they were still practicing their long shots for the basketball tournaments Betty Clark made quite a success of her life She became President of the Warren Bank, Roscoe Foos was her favorite secretary, because of his excellent typing Richard Darling was so anxious to get into big league baseball that he took the first position that he was offered, that of bat boy on the Warren Scoreless Wonders He became such an expert that he was never promoted June Tenkel traveled with a big Ice Revue Show for several years, doing a unique act, she twirled flaming batons while doing an ice skating routine Another strange stone in the form of the famous Rexall sign This one belongs to Rudy Weber, who finally owned his own Drug Store, and employed Dorothy Streefkirk as Beauty Counselor Thinking of Dorothy brings to mind Violet Nelson, who dyed her hair chartreuse on Dorothy's promise that it would make her look different Our class can boast of still another successful member He is latthew Pouls, who, after many years of earnest study, finally became a professor of Bugology at Warren University Nobert Olszewski and Bob Wingle, the two quietest boys in our class, were world travelers They said that seeing the world from a freight train is the best Another dear classmate, Jean Gates, was a member of the United States Olympic tobogganing team Frank Jeroue changed his name to 'Pierre', and opened a French Beauty Salon He was very successful and his hairdoes world famous Ed Franco, Don Cruise, Ed Ross, and John R1vard had been useful and loyal citizens employed in warming benches for the Warren All Stars Last but not least, I remember Ann Butcher, who always wanted to be the first woman President of the U S , finally became president of an orphan's home, aided by her able assistants Frances Nardozzi and Shirley Hamilton, who gave up their own careers to devote themselves to the Promotion of Women Presidents' Society The first streaks of dawn are breaking through Perhaps I can get a closer look at these misty phantoms they haven't acted friendly now they are fading away as I approach, I'll grab this fellow looks like Ronnie Marlow why, it's nothing but a shrub' all shrubbery97 KBBBB GONTRACTIRG .
