FOOTBALL Aided by a strong right arm and the ability to dodge like a rabbit, Little? tl85 pounds! Duke Abbruzzi led Warren's Redskins in sweeping the first two games of the season. In the 28 to 0 romp over the Southie's, Duke aver- aged ten yards a plunge, while Charlie Brochu hammered at the Southie's forward wall with bull-like charges. Charlie also chipped in with some fine blocks. Bob Head and Curley Sarracino looked exceptionally well on the offense. And up and coming end, Iggy Delekta, snared an Abbruzzi pass and raced for a touchdown, the third of the afternoon for the Redskins. Duke twice before hit pay dirt for the Warrenites. the first coming on the third play of the game. Coventry's much improved eleven threw a scare into the Redskins when Frank DePrete raced 85 yards for a touchdown only to have it nullified by clipping. All the scoring took place in the first half with both clubs playing a hard defensive game in the second half. Iackie Enos and Charlie Brochu again blocked well for the Duke. Faced with a 7-point deficit, Warren's Redskins scored twice in the second and again in the third periods and won going away over a weak but willing East Greenwich team. Little Duke Abbruzzi fled to the glory land three times. but only the fine blocking by Brochu and Andrade made it possible. Making their first start against one of the better teams in Class C, Warren suffered a 28-6 defeat by a hard hitting Lockwood eleven. The only bright spot in the game as far as Warren fans were concerned was the 80-yard run- back from a kickoff by Duke Abbruzzi: other than that it was all Lockwood whose devastating ground attack swamped the Skins. The Warren High Redskins primed for an upset were defeated by the Crusaders from De LaSalle, 35-6. Five different players did the scoring for De LaSalle while Warren's only score came from its usual source, Little Duke Abbruzzi. It was the worst defeat for the Skins this season. but the score only tells part of the story. The boys played a rib-cracking game but what breaks there were went to the Crusaders. Losing their toughest game of the season to one of their arch rivals, Barrington, the Skins lost the third straight game. Although they outplayed the Eagles in every department but their scoring one, they bowed: but not before letting Barrington know they had been in a game. Curley Sarracino played a bang-up game for the Skins as did Duke Abbruzzi who was by far the best back on the field. Iggy Delekta who played his best game of the season was brilliant both on the offense and defense. Recovering from their last three games. Warren broke into a rash of scoring by trouncing North Kingston, 34 to 7. Again it was the State's leading scorer, Duke Abbruzzi. who led the parade. Duke scored three times, two of which came from intercepted passes: the other was an end rush CHEERLEADERS Left to right: Cynthia Denby, lanet Sarracino, Barbara Crespo, Ann Marie St. Iohn, Patricia Chace.
