if In publishing this issue of the WAMPUM we as seniors of Warren High School perform one last task re- maining to us as students. In former years we might go light-heartedly from high school, some to continue on to college, some to busi- ness or specialized schools: some into the business world. But these are different times: they are trying times. lt falls to our lot to be graduated in a year when our country is at war, involved in the greatest struggle in its history, and so, when the doors of Warren High School close upon us finally and we are no longer students, we face at once a serious task-that of knowing what we must do, what we can do, to help in this war effort, and to think ahead to the task that will be partly ours. in the equally difficult days that will follow this war. For we can know that we, as individuals, will be affected by all that happens about us. If one thing be true it is that we, earlier perhaps than many another to be graduated, can know the narrowness of this world, its compactness, and its indrawn boundaries: to sense that we, in common with all the peoples of the earth. have one common fate. We therefore feel conscious of a greater responsibility, that of being indivdual human units, each responsible to the other, and to know that our words and our deeds are important, too. We have known carefree and easy years at Vvfarren High School, and have many memories to cherish. But with graduation we enter a more mature peroid, calling for broader knowledge, greater responsibility, a deeper sense of obligation to self. to our community, to our na- tion, and to the world. It is good that before this task has become ours. we could know Hrst the pleasures of youth. We feel grateful to Warren High School for the many con- tented days we have known within its portals. But now we are ready for whatever work lies ahead. THE STAFF
