In former years we might go light-heartedly from high school, some to continue on to college, some to busi- ness or specialized schools: some into the business world. But these are different times: they are trying times. lt falls to our lot to be graduated in a year when our country is at war, involved in the greatest struggle in its history, and so, when the doors of Warren High School close upon us finally and we are no longer students, we face at once a serious task-that of knowing what we must do, what we can do, to help in this war effort, and to think ahead to the task that will be partly ours. in the equally difficult days that will follow this war. For we can know that we, as individuals, will be affected by all that happens about us. If one thing be true it is that we, earlier perhaps than many another to be graduated, can know the narrowness of this world, its compactness, and its indrawn boundaries: to sense that we, in common with all the peoples of the earth. have one common fate. We therefore feel conscious of a greater responsibility, that of being indivdual human units, each responsible to the other, and to know that our words and our deeds are important, too. We have known carefree and easy years at Vvfarren High School, and have many memories to cherish. But with graduation we enter a more mature peroid, calling for broader knowledge, greater responsibility, a deeper sense of obligation to self. to our community, to our na- tion, and to the world. It is good that before this task has become ours. we could know Hrst the pleasures of youth. We feel grateful to Warren High School for the many con- tented days we have known within its portals. But now we are ready for whatever work lies ahead. THE STAFF 415511 Hi E all Miss BARRY MR. B15AUPAR1,AN'1' 6 r MR. BRQCHU Miss BURKE M1ss KEARNIQY MR. BURDQIQ MR. CAILANAN MR. Here. they learned to confide in their teachers who were willing to help them in all difficuties, teachers who took an interest in them individually. Here also they learned a lesson from a losing basketball team which kept fighting al- though they were continually being defeated. From a win- ning stand point of view, our club did not even show, but as spirit goes we were on top. JOHN Vice President MARSHALL MARTIN Secretary . .. . ,,.. MURIEI. SEYMOUR Treasurer . .. . .V,.4, JOSEPH TAvARt2s Class Adviser MR. JOHN J. CONWAY, JR. We first entered Warren High School in the autumn of nineteen hundred and thirty- eight with an eagerness to launch ourselves on a four year journey. Due to the hurricane our class meeting scheduled to elect class officers was forgotten and no further attempt 'was made for class organiation. In the fall of 1939 we returned with re- newed vigor to our studies and at our first class meeting we choose Mr. Cappuccilli as class adviser. Class officers for that year were: President WI1.l-IAN1 ROTJRIOLIFS Vice President EDGAR ST. JOHN Secretary . . . .. .LoIs STAI2LI3s Treasurer MARsHALt 1V1AR'l'1N Because of lack of interest the proposed plans fora Halloween hayride never bore fruit. The following year found us full of en- thusiasm and renewed hope for the complete unity our first years lacked. Under the guid- ing hand of Mr. Conway we achieved just this. The capable body of class officers and cooperation of the class made our Junior Ysar far more active than we dared hope. We held a profitable dance, a successful military whist and a play on class day. Then came the big event of our Junior Year: The Prom: Warren Highs Audito- we needed just the salty sea scene to complete the nautical theme. Class Officers were: Joszami TAVARIQS Prestdent . .. .. .. EDGAR ST. JOHN Secretary . . .. .. MURIIQI. SEYMOUR Treasurer .. . . ..... . MARsHALL 1V1AR'I'IN Class Adviser . . MR. JOHN J: CONWAY, JR. Vice President The autmun of 1941 found us re-entering Warren High School for the last time and realizing that in the next year we would no longer be a part of the happy throng waiting for the bell to ring. Buckling down to make the most of our Senior Year we chose a most capable Toma- hawk staff and started its publication. This our never-to-be-forgotten class year we made as fruitful as possible. First we held the Christmas Hop with a merry crowd at- tending, then we started our plans for the annual Easter Monday dance, held April 6, one of our greatest successes. When Honor Society Awards were made in April a goodly part of our class was elect- ed, the reward of three and a half years of diligent studying. Now our school days are coming to an end and it is with some regret that we have looked back over our stay here, but there remains two great events to crown our four glorious years: Our graduation and out Senior Recep- tion after which we will no longer be partici- pating but shall look on with the rest of the alumni from the sidelines.
