Board of Education In appreciation of their sincere efforts for the benefit of our school, we Wish to pay tribute to the Board of Education' Under the presidency of Sletten C. Olson, this board supervises the Warren Public Schools, the Nor- mal Training Department, and the educational department of the N. Y. A. school. Dr. C. H. Holmstrom has been appointed to the board to succeed Dr. H. M. Blegen, who had been a member for twenty-two years, serving as presi- dent for sixteen years prior to his death on March 26, 1942. 1885 1942 Dr. H. M. Blegen, for twenty-two years a mem- ber of the board, had also served as president of the board of education for sixteen years prior to his death on Ma-rch 26, 1942. He was at all times vitally in- terested in the welfare of the school and Will be greatly missed as an aggressive leader and promoter of education. Besides Working with the school board, Dr. Blegen was Chief of Staff of the Warren Hospital, Marshall County Coroner, and president of the board of administration of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. A leader in the state as Well, Dr. Blegen was a former president of the Red River Valley Medical Society, had been vice president of the Oakland Park Sanatorium at Thief River Falls, and at one time assistant city physician for the city of Minneapolis.

NEVER since the beginning of our democracy have we as a nation or individuals faced such a complex situation as that confronting us today in 19.42. It is a period of change, of strife and insecurity affecting each one of us,' yet, out of the present chaos new leadership will develop to assume responsibilities. Our ideas may have to alter, our standands may change and new -visions be realized, but the ideals and fundamentals as set forth by our forefathers in the con- stitution must through our efforts be kept nurtured. Educationally it is the responsibility of our schools to endeavor to produce material for the leadership neces- sary for assuming the new responsibilities and to cultivate individuals so that the very t principles of unselyishness, s . tolerance and love for our . neighbor may again establish peace and liberty upon this earth.
