We brought about a YOUTH- OUAKE. We sat through all kinds of weather at foot- ball games . . .spent our last cent on fun and gadgets, food and dates . . . gave our free time to clubs, sport and school activities . . . con- formed en masse to fads and fashions . . . competed in earnest for top grades . . . learned more, earned more, owned more and just reveled in the good life of being a part of W.H.S. It has been said that we were more deeply committed to the ideas of decency, tolerance and brotherhood than almost any other genera- tion since the age of chivalry. We felt that we were not just merely preparing for life, we were living it. We played an active part in the world that was turned-on and tuned-in. lT WAS FUN IN '71' After Lunch is sq National Horior Society WARREN HIGH SCHOOL VINCENT OHIO VOLUME XI 1971 Table of Conienis THEME ADMINISTRATION FACULTY SENIORS CLASSES ORGANIZATIONS ACTIVITIES ATHLETICS FAVORITES ADVERTISING f-'H SSS 1- ' A N Juniors lead th SY X ig , A v E Girl-watchi ng? This drama is no simple story, for the balance of the earth 's creatures is delicate, complex, and multiple. A change affecting one species may ultimately affect another species with which it has no direct or obvious contact. With the help of our science department, the fascinating story of ecology is unfolded to the students. Each of the courses prepare the students for future homemaking and the prospect of a fuller and richer life. Vocational Agriculture There are few vocations so highly dynamic, rapidly changing, and yet offering so many opportunities to youth as that of agriculture. VIVIENNE COLLINS ia -V M ' ,.,,, -',, ,rg , 1 , , ' ' 5 3 1 i I Q Art, to each student, is an individual thing. Art is an expression of the individual's thoughts, imagination and experiences put down in an artistic endeavor. Each student is allowed to create on his own with the proper motivation and guidance and is lead toward a path of freedom in artistic de- velopment. This freedom is encouraged. Only in art can satisfaction be found in the realization that one has created something entirely his own, apart from everyone else. This is the art program, where students are involved in exciting assignments that range from flat 2-D work in all media to 3-D constructions. Students have the opportunity to display their work in the annual End of the Year Art Exhibit which is on display in the cafeteria and Building One lobby. The art classes include Art I, Art ll, Commercial Art, and Oil Painting. Special Education The goal of special education is to achieve happy and useful citizens for our community, state and nation. We are primarily concerned with practical applications of our subjects for everyday living. We stress the importance of job preparation, job placement, and job re- tention. MISS SY LVIA YOUNG Keeping Fit Through Phgsical Education Physical fitness is of great importance to all Americans. Recognizing this fact, the athletic department at Warren offers students a variety of sports in which they may participate. From spectator sports such as football, track, softball, baseball, basketball, wrestling, which contribute greatly to school spirit, to individual sports such as weight lifting and peg board climbing, which contribute to personal spirit, the list includes something for just about everyone. RICHARD ROBERTS Industrial Arts Prepares Future Laborers The Industrial Arts Department is open to those students who wish to interpret measure- ments into accurate drawings and to attempt to develop dexterity in the use of their hands and tools. Courses available are woods and metals, photo science, graphic arts, drafting, electricity, power mechanics, and crafts. The students are encouraged to be creative, to use their own ideas, and to develop their own techniques. To many people this year holds no special meaning, but to Warren Seniors this year symbolizes the attainment of a goal, a dream fulfilled. This was the year of the Sen- ior Superstars, both in athletics and scholarship. This year, dangling on the mortar boards, was the prize for four long years of hard work: long hours spent writing themes, study- ing for tests, and sweating on the practice field. But along with the agonies, we enjoyed the ecstasies. The happiness of simple living: smiling, loving, screaming at games, talking in the halls, dancing, and sometimes just daydreaming. We triumphed in the sign contest with our giant yellow bell sign and were first in the Food Drive. We felt pride when Debbie Westbrook was handed the dozen red roses and proclaimed Homecoming Queen. The last month before graduation was packed with special events: the Senior picnic . . . our red, white, and blue day . . . Senior field day . . . Junior-Senior Prom . . . and ulti- mately ,... Graduation. But, as our year, 1971 ended, we were reminded that a new year is coming, a year of new experiences and new hopes. A classes 5 Juniors Probably the most exciting event of the year for the Juniors was receiving their class rings. The pride Juniors take in their ring is as evident as the pride they take in working for the junior class. We sold candy and worked the coatcheck at basketball games in an effort to make the Prom a memorable one. The class of 1972 won the Best Slogan Award in the sign contest with this classic motto, Edgar Allen Poe says, 'Nevermore, Ravens- wood, Nevermore, ' . . . we also placed second in the food drive. Pat Burt was chosen as our homecoming attendant and our Sweetheart Couple was Rhonda Bowen and Paul Wells. Juniors did well both in scholarship and athletics. On a scorching hot, humid September day, 186 nervous freshmen entered the doors o High School, little knowing what lay ahead in the next four years. They soon learned tha f Warren t fresh- men are constantly teased and tortured by upperclassmen. They also learned the tricks of the trade, like how to jam a locker, how to get away with wearing culottes, and other antics. Many freshmen were active in sports. Our most exciting football game was when we defeated our bitter rivals, Belpre. In the sign contest against the other classes, the enthusiastic freshmen won the spirit award. For the Valentine Dance, we chose our sweetheart couple, Vickie Ludwig and Joe McGirr. The freshmen wish to thank everyone who made their first year at W.H.S. a happy one. The Society is used to give special rec- ognition to students with high grades, who take part in extra-curricular activities, and show the qualities of leadership, character, and service. To be initiated into National Junior Honor Society a freshman or sophomore must have gained recognition in character, scholarship, leadership, service, and citizenship.
