T. A. was awarded to Mrs. R. L. Newton. Upon the same basis we, the Year Book Staff, have chosen to dedicate to her the Paul Bunyan edition of the Pine Cone. Endlessly, tirelessly she toils over our morals, our manners, and our records. Deeply she feels our failures and our successes. Through all the years we have been here we have found in her a true friend. Page 4 BOARD of DIRECTOR MR. IOHN NEWTON SCOBEY DR. HUGH MOSELEY President Vice-President MR. H. E. NEELY Business Manager MR. CURTIS BLANKINSHIP Qi The Board of Directors hold regular monthly meetings in the Superinten- dent's office. At these meetings, the first Monday night in each month, together with Mr. P. H. Herring these men spend several hours planning the year's pro- gram. Through their efforts the tax- payers of this school were made aware of the immediate need for more space for both white and colored schools. As a result a bond issue was voted, and two new elementary schools planned. The building for negroes will soon be ready for use. The white school will be finished by next fall. Page 5 . LOUIS W. EDERINGTON MR. l. B. FRAZER ,, .Y MR. P. H. HERRING, the students' true friend, always ready and willing to see our side of problems: never losing his patience and under- standing no matter what nature the offense. Always managing to get the money necessary to finance the many projects and programs we wanted to undertake. Mr. Herring, our beloved superintendent, will long be remembered as a truly great man and friend. An efficient and persistent principal is MR. W. T. SMALLING. We all realize the irfnumerable duties he is responsible for and appreciate the efficiency with which he fulfills them. When we recall all the tribulations we hav creeps over us as We realize th p c understanding he has shown in e ' s unwittingly caused him, a sense of gr xt n P if with the student body. Their first camp was Warren Primary School. The husky junior Bunyans took time out from hacking away at the trees of knowledge to be entertained by Santa Claus, along with presents and a tree. We sawed away at the three R's in the class- roorn and rornped away at cat in the corner in the log cabin and cops and robbers around the big oak tree. The Operetta was a big event, giving the little wood choppers their first taste of acting in their portrayals of sunshine girls, flower girls and airplane boys. At last we chopped our way to the topp the third grade annual graduation. The Ir. Bun- yans' graduation was a grand affair, complete with speeches, songs, clarinet, and piano solos. WOODIE CLASS HISTORY Then we were luniors. The Paul Bunyans had blazed a trail steadily upward with the spirit oi Babe, the Blue Ox 7 now we could peer between his massive horns and see the top. This was a biq year and led by Richie Blankinship as class president, every lunior shouldered the axe with a will. The lunior Halloween Carnival provided plenty of work and excitement for all. Everybody turned dramatic for the lunior Play, The Able Miss Cain. lt was a bang-up comedy, with three terrific performances, earn- ing Mask and Dagger awards for Iohn Eder- inqton and Sylvia Buercklin. Page 16 it Amid flying chips and a blaze of glory, Erma Reynolds led the home-coming royalty as queen, escorted by cocaptains, Royce Adair and Richie Blankinship. Mary Neely and Sandra Blankinship rounded out the procession as maids. Buddy Rotten and Rich- ie Blankinship brought great honors to the camp by Winning all-district in football. We have blazed our trail through high school, but May 14 saw the Paul Bunyans in formal attire for the Iunior and Senior Banquet, the grand finale of the year. Babe led us south of the border for a Mexican theme, complete with bull tight and somb fkvwx, ff The end of the trail at last! We Bun- yans have been served nobly by Iohn- ny Ross as Student Council president and Buddy Rotton, president of the Sen- ior Class. Miss Pauline Lefler and Mr. Noble Steelman have kept the spirit of Babe the Blue Ox burning brightly to guide us throughout our last year. our journey in lite has on- ly begun. May We con- tinue as in days gone by, to meet hardships with a smile, and Work toward our goals in life with the mighty spirit of Paul Bun- yan. The Naughty Lady from Shady Lane and Mr. Sand Man , are two of their best known numbers. The success of the quartet began by winning the Coca-Cola Search for Tal, ent Show held in the YMCA, They were then invited to appear on the television show on KATV. Here they won the prize, a Coca-Cola radio, which they gave to the YMCA. Warren merchants and townsmen gave them whole hearted support in their efforts to climb to success. The Y's Men's Club sponsored the quartet on KATV. After their Channel 7 appearance, Channel 4, KARK-TV invited them to sing. Here, Down by the Riverside took the spotlight. Warren and WHS are very proud oi their accomplishments this year.
