E IOR CLASS HI Y Back IH 1940 a group of wldeeyed and eager youngsters set out as Napoleon once d1d to Conquer the world All true sol dlers must be well tramed thts troop e celved therr bastc tra1n1ng at Warren Prrm ary School Warren Arkansas under the ef f1c1ent superv1s1on of Sgt Dot Marttn Hours not spent 1n drllls wh1ch mcluded readm wrtttn and r1thmetJc were spent tn the favorlte recreatron spot of the troop the Log Cabm Here many chrldhood ro mances had therr start and Just as many ended there In the thrrd grade the regrment embarked on therr fxrst maJor maneuver the operetta The Cobbler of Farrlyand Some of the troop won promot1ons for thetr performances Pete Pennlngton as the Cobbler Bed Clark as the Cat Kathryn Wallace as the Queen and hm Tracy as the krng garned therr own personal V1ClOI19S Everybody Jn the class d1d h1s b1t ID makrng the maneuver complete success At the end of th1s maneuver the troop was moved to a new base Warren Elemen tary School Here we began to feel l1ke true lrttle Soldrers Under the leadershrp of Capt Allle Mae Temple many small ex curslons were made each one markrng for ward strrdes for us All these smaller v1c TOIIGS led up to the most Jmportant one whxch was on May 30 lQ46 We were agatn ready to move to a hlgher trarnrng base Barbara Gorman Earltne Bussel Patty Rodgers and Brlly Gentry moved to the head of the ranks when they were named Valedlctortans Wtth SIX years of tra1n1ng beh1nd us we squared our shoulders for the next s1x In the seventh year Grayce Frazer was elected Cheerleader We felt pretty lost wan der1ng around Jn the huge butldrng You mrght say we felt hke a soldter who has Just won h1s frrst Str1pes In the nmth Page grade we had a new conftdence and eager ness Qur football heroes that year were Bed Clark and Rex Hargxs Captatns When lunror Royalty was elected Martha Lee Grr der as Queen Barbara Gorman as Honorary Queen Sybrl Blanktnshtp and Nell Thomp son as Mards scored another vrctory for our troop The tenth year was l1ke the rest lessons fun and of course somebody was always AWOL At long last lunrorsl Mtke Mety led us w1th good leadersh1p We worked l1ke beavers to ra1se money to feed those chow crazy Senrors at the Banquet Qur Hallo ween Carn1val was another ITIISSIOYI com plete The luntor play No Place to Park won for M1ldred Neely Maxme Parker Char lotte Beard and Lowm another medal for lh91f?F9Sl the Mas and agger Award loan lohnson and loan Lasrter were football maxds And so here we are at the end of our traxnlng And what a year' loan lohnson scored another personal vrctory when she was chosen football Queen Lynell Thomp son as Honorary Queen Martha Grlder and M1ldred Neely as Mards were Just as de servmg of pratse Pete Pennrngton has serv ed the base well as Prestdent of Student Councrl Just as l Walter Clark has as Presl dent of the Sentor Class Brll Sharp brought home forergn honors by w1nn1ng all state honorable mentlon and all dtstrxct for hrs guard posltxon Jn football Pete Pennrngton agaln ralsed h1s rank when he won the Scxence award Mr H C NJcholson has been our gu1d1ng lrght for the past two years Qur Conquest of Lrfe IS Just beglnmng Lrke Napoleon we w1ll have many V1ClOT19S and defeats But unlrke Napoleon may we never meet our Waterloo' 20 ' .
