To the Class of l966: As you come to the end of your high school graduation, l would like to ask you a question. Will your life be different in the succeeding years and if so, what will make it different? The way to make your life fruitful does not depend on whether it is l965 or 1966. The calendar year will not make it different. What will make your life rewardingly different are your mind and soul. Among the many classic sayings of Emerson, one is particularly fitting for youth as well as adults. l-Ie said, We are always getting ready to live, but never living. Pascal joins him in saying, We never live, but we hope to live, and as we are always arranging for being happy, it cannot be but that we never are so. Seneca, a philosopher of old, tops these thinkings off when he said, The part of life which we really live is short. Take full advantage of life and youth. Take advantage of your intel- ligence, the vast potential of your mind, your eagerness, vitality and health. There are unlimited horizons for living and working. God's gift for living is yours -- use it wisely. Congratulations, Superintendent of Schools 6
