Beyond these horizons I see democratic world government, equality for man, disease free people, instantaneous communications, speedier transportation, interspace travel, and many other ideas yet undreamed of by the human mind. One marvelous facet of all this is that you will be a part of these new worlds. Yours is the year 2000 -- only 37 years away. My exhorta- tion is that you prepare well and use wisely your God-given gifts. Sincerely yours, 6 FACLI LTY F E' ? ? Behind me lay the pearly waters of the South China Sea and a lonely outpost in the lowlands of Malaya. Now, as I boarded my ship for America, my thoughts turned to days past. More vividly than ever l could remember when we had just entered our Freshman year. How shy and timid we were. That first year our class officers were: Dennis Vaill, President, Joanne Mc- Carthy, Vice-Presidentg Donna Kershaw, Secretary, and James Medeiros, Treasurer. To the Student Council we sent James Medeiros and Joanne Mc- Carthy. Our basketball stars were John Perrin, David Meacham, Alan Shepherd, James Medeiros, Gary Blanchard and Clifford Marriott. To the girls' team we sent Joanne McCarthy, Janelle Odiorne, Sandra Zawalski, and myself, Marion Taylor. This was also the year that we, as Freshmen, were to be initiated, The Seniors were greatly surprised to discover that there was genuine talent in the Freshman class, and the talent show was a barrel of fun for all of us. September rolled around again and we were one more step up the ladder as Sophomores. Elaine Midura took over as President, Joanne McCarthy re- mained as Vice-President, Christine I-Iagman became Secretary and Dennis Vaill, Treasurer. To the Student Council we sent James Medeiros, Elaine Midura, and Joanne McCarthy. l remember the class production of Nobody Loves a Fat Boy during our Sophomore year, in which Gary Blanchard and Dianne Cabana rose to stardom. The sports rosters were much the same, and our classmates continued to be faithful rooters. In our Junior year we received our class rings and became members of the Alma Mater. To celebrate this event, we held a ring dance. That year, our class officers were: Joanne McCarthy, Presidentg Gary Blanchard, Vice- Presidentg Christine Hagman, Secretary, and John Perrin, Treasurer. Student Council representatives were James Medeiros, Joanne McCarthy, Janelle Odiorne, and Elaine Midura. That year we held a pep rally which was a huge success. lt was also the year that we acquired Yogi Bear from the Freshmen. John Perrin and Rudy Bednarz became co-captains of the basketball team, and we sponsored the Senior Reception. Seniors at last -- we had finally made it! For the last time we elected class officers who were: Joanne McCarthy, President, David Meacham, Vice- Presidentg Irene Starzyk, Secretaryg and John Perrin, Treasurer. To the Student Council, also for the last time, we sent James Medeiros, Janelle Odiorne, Dennis Vaill, and Elaine Midura. Our Senior Prom, Winter Wonderland, was a social success, as was the Freshman talent show. With graduation in June, we were ready to take that long awaited step into the future, as citizens of our community, state, and of our nation. We, the Class of 1963, give Yogi Bear To the Class of 1965 to share. 29 1 I decided to write and tell you the most exciting news. Dear Irene: My editor sent me out to get a story on Willie Wink, the famous movie and singing star, and told me not to come back without it. It took me a trip around the world to get the story and it also gave me the opportunity to meet our classmates from the good ole Class of '63. I traced Willie to New York where he was to be singing at the Peppermint Lounge but I arrived too late to see him. All was not lost, however, for at the Lounge I met Jerry Tobyne, the very successful proprietor of the nightclub. Jerry sent me to Willie's booking agent and I got my second surprise of the day. I walked into the office of Rudy Bednarz. He was a big help in my search for Willie as he had his secretary, Joanne McCarthy, give me his bookings for the next two months. I headed for the airport to make reservations for England the first stop on my list. At the ticket window, I was very surprised to see Wanda Devanski as the clerk. The stewardess on the plane I was to take was Pat Buckley, who told me she just loved her job. Pat took me to the front of the plane to introduce me to the pilot and co-pilot. The pilot was our class astronaut, Alan Shepherd and the co -pilot was David Meacham, both of whom are looking very well. When we landed in London it was raining cats and dogs. While waiting for a cab, I ran into Marilyn Soya on vacation from her candy shop in the states. When my cab arrived, I was doubly shocked to find Brian Odiorne in the driver's seat. I thought it was time I went in search of Willie again before I lost my job. Because of the rain his show was cancelled and he had moved on to Paris, France. After the London rain I decided to make myself presentable. Upon entering a famous beauty salon I was not surprised to see Marianne Kane and Helen Wansick as the proprietors, for they really showed some talent at W.H.S. While under the dryer, I glanced upin time to see Marion Taylor come in. She told me she was ambassador to France, her childhood ambition. My trip was halted for a day, however, because of a sprained ankle. The day Ispentin the hospital was not a total waste, for I met Sandy Dupsha teach ing French students our nursing methods, a very rewarding line of work. After leaving the hospital my search took me to Moscow where Willie was to entertain at the World's Fair. Naturally, my first stop at the fair was at the U.S. exhibits. While walking around, I came upon the farming section and guess who was there -- Yep! Dennis Vaill, exhibiting the products from his expanding farm back in Warren. After roaming around, seeing all the displays, I bumped right into Lorraine Benson, who has a lovely set of twins, on a month's vacation with her family. I decided that this would be a good time for me to watch Willie perform before I interviewed him. He is a marvelous entertainer and sure does justice to the song Ahab the Arab. After the show he had rushed off in a cab, so I had no choice but to go on to Hawaii and try to catch him there. The hostess at the airport was one of our classmates, Chris Hagman, who was working there while her husband was stationed in Hawaii. She is still as full of life as ever. 30 While crossing the street to my hotel, I chanced to see Vincent Bradley directing traffic, but it was too thick for me to talk to him. I-Ie looks just as he did back at W.H.S. During my first night in I-Iawaii, I developed an overwhelming toothache, so I decided to go to Los Angeles before Willie and get the tooth attended to before it got too bad. I was not familiar with the dentists in L.A. so I looked in the phone directory and came across the name of Donna Fitzgerald. While I was sitting in the waiting room of her office, quite nervously, the patient before me emerged. Who do you suppose it was, but Jim Medeiros, the unsus- pecting victim of Donna's new painless method of drilling. After talking to him, I found that he is a Los Angeles executive, doing quite well. My turn was next, so into the chain I went. While she worked we had a great talk and Donna suggested that ifl wanted to see another classmate, I should attend the concert where Ronny Peltier was playing his accordian. This I did and I saw a wonderful performance. Checking in at the hotel that night, I met Janelle Odiorne, who is attend- ing a convention as an executive secretary at Warren Pumps, Inc., and that night we had a wonderful talk. After flying to Logan Airport in Boston, I looked up Elaine Midura who showed me around her Loan Company office, after which she invited me to go to a baseball game at Fenway Park, The new homerun king for the Red Sox was John Perrin and the star pitcher for the yankees was Bobby Mitchell. Well, Willie had escaped me again so I decided to take a side-trip home to visit my parents. Later, I found that the famous Willie Wink, whom I had followed all around the world, was performing at the Warren Town I-Iall, When I rushed in everyone was talking about the performance and among the people, I saw many familiar faces. Phyllis CBorowiecj Valley, for one, told me that her husband owns the famous Pizza Palace where they sell the best pizzas in the state. Another thriving business is the plant owned by Clifford Marriott where parts for rocket ships are made. Sandy Zawalski is happily married to Ronnie and they have a marvelous flower shop on Main Street in Warren. Richard Mundel owns .his own trucking business and transports for Perkins Machine Company. I saw Dianne Cabana at the Hall also. She is a second grade teacher at the East School now, and she told me she had to take her dog to the vets to have him put away. This was because he dog bit Bobby Allen at his Cities Service station in Warren. The vet was, ofcourse, Gary Blanchard, who is well known in this area. I finally got my chance to interview Willie Wink and this was the greatest surprise of my life. For there standing in front of me was our own classmate, Bobby Award. He had grown taller and looked slightly older, especially with that mustache. I interviewed him and he told me of his success as an enter- tainer, and how glad he was that we could meet again. That's my whole story. I'll be seeing you in Boston at your laboratory next week and then I'll catch a plane for New York and get my exciting story to the boss. I better stop writing now before my short story becomes a short novel. Bye for now. Though their record of seven wins and ten losses doesn't show it, the Eagles have played great basketball throughout the season, much to the enjoyment of everyone who saw them. Defeating Ashby and Marlboro, N.H., the Eagles then came up against their arch-rival, Hardwick High, knocking them out of championship contention by a score of 56-43. The championship game on March 9th saw Warren and Belchertown pitted against each other. Belchertown emerged the victor however, but our team still brought home the finalist trophy, something to be quite proud of.
