The staff photogra- phers — Jamie Wolff (editor), Jim Heidenreich, and David Determan — worked hard to capture on film the memories of this school year. Jamie Wolff attended a photography workshop at the University of Whitewater during the summer of 1983. Not everything worked out fortuitously for us, however. In the darkroom, for example, this year, we had a variety of things happen. First of all, the darkroom was extremely hot for several weeks. Then after the heat was down to average, we were struck by the great flood — as seen in the pictures of Jamie and Don mopping. The ECHOES staff would like to thank Ken Vance for his doing the art work for the cover of this book — thanks, Ken! Lori and Roger state, We believe this is a yearbook of which the entire student body should be proud. Many long hours have gone into the production of the book, and we are very pleased with the results.” Yearbook 3 Help me! I missed again. Hard at work. I’ll regret this. Candidates must be a second semester sophomore or older and have a minimum grade point average of 3.2. Faculty members rank the eligible students on the basis of scholar- ship, service, leadership and character. After being inducted, the students retain membership in NHS unless they fail to meet one or more of the criteria that were used to select them. Six WHS students were chosen for NHS this year. They were Penny Raab, Deanna Zeal, Anita Fernstaedt, Scott Sigafus, Susan Hicks and Deb Wulfekuhle. NHS 31 32 FHA planned many activities this year. The Father Daughter Banquet, Mother Daughter Banquet, shopping tripat East Towne Mall, and the Christmas Party were just a few. FHAers also attended the Fall Rally held at Stillman Valley. Members had a great time at the hayride, slumber party, and pizza parties. Thanksgiving baskets were deliv- ered to the elderly. To raise money for the organization, members sold pizza- burgers, pop, and their famous elephant ears at Pumpkin Festival. Treasure Chest items were also sold. Mrs. Doersam stated, “This was a very active year in FHA, even though 1 was on maternity leave for one quarter. I had a great group of officers and the advisors who took my place. Miss Balbach and Mrs. McCool, did an excellent job. As always, I enjoyed working with all the girls in FHA. L to R: Mrs. Docrsam. advisor; Tina Kent. Rep.; Jennifer Krupke. Rec.; Susan Hicks. Pub. This was possible because, as Coach Klaus stated, “As a varsity team everyone played well together. We worked as a team. The success of the season was a result of teamwork. Even though our conference record was 9-5, we were at the top because the con- ference was well balanced.” This year six seniors were involved with the vol- leyball season: Jodi McKee, Connie Wolber. According to Coach Aubry, “Winning some key games and staying away from injuries made the warriors suc- cessful. The varsity team had only thirteen members. This made each player work harder as most of them had to play both offense and defense. Seven lettermen returned to the warrior team and they helped to end the season with a 4-3 conference record and a tie for third place. Due to the remodeling and new construction taking place, we frequently needed to change schedules, move classrooms and re-route students from their gym, band and art classes. Students also had many excuses for being distracted from their regular studies, as they could often look out and watch a bulldozer at work or hear the hum of jack-hammers pounding away at some old concrete. Through all these inconveniences, we found a tremendous amount of cooperation, understanding and flexibility on ev- eryoncs part which made the 83 84 school year very exciting and successful. Though small in number, the graduating class of ’84 wit- nessed more changes than any class to pass through the doors at WHS in the past 20 years. As members of the community, they will be able to look back and know that much of the progress and changes were made possible through their ef- forts and cooperation.
