SWEET SIXTEEN WJSHS was an exciting place to be Feb. 23-Mar. 10. After winning the Regional Tournament by defeating Elizabeth 73-50. the Warriors then advanced to the Sectionals at Highland Community College. In the first round they defeated Annawan 42-52 and in the second round defeated Chadwick 53-51. Then on to Supersectionals at East Moline to play sweet sixteen sister Dunlap. Aside from signs that went up in school, in business windows, and on roadsides, pep rallies featuring Athletic Director Jack Trevethan's witty monologues prepared the fans for upcoming action. Warren was allotted 7 50 tickets for the regional game. By 12:40 all tickets had been sold—tickets were to go on sale to the public at 1:00 p.m. At 1:00 there were about 50 adults waiting for tickets and many became upset when they learned there were none. Plenty of tickets were available for Supersectionals. Area businesses sponsored a chartered bus to take the Warriors to East Moline and provided them with a meal. Eight other buses—4 chartered through Tri-State, two through Al's Outlaw Saloon, and 2 Dist. 205 buses—carried fans to the game. Fire trucks escorted the team to the gym after both games where they were met by fans for a hero's welcome. 1.
