The machine was located outside Room 5 and helped pay for Homecoming, the band, and flowers. Student Council also had one bake sale. Student Council also started a point system. Members were given points for being active in Student Council projects. When asked, Mr. Nielsen stated, The point system was started for two reasons: It can point out the students who are really involved in nearly all the activities. It also can be used to show individuals if they aren't contributing to the Council's success. Mr. Nielsen commented: I am very appreciative of the effort given by some of the Student Council members. Their work is not publicized too often, but they make a good contribution for their school and classmates.

POM PON SQUAD RETURNS Pom-pon squad was the new group at WJSHS. This was the first year in five years there was a squad there will be a squad next year. Bev Cox, Deb Fernstaedt, and Deneen Martin went to pom-pon camp at Rockford the past summer. Nine members attended the Badgerette Clinic at Rockford and six went to Cedar Falls in the spring. These days were spent learning new routines and steps and competing with other squads. The squad elected Deneen Martin as squad captain and Deb Fernstaedt as treasurer for officers. Mrs. Miller commented, Some girls didn't realize how much work it would take to produce a good performance for the fans.” She enjoyed working with the girls and they learned many new things from her. One student commented, The squad motivated the crowd and kept them in their seats, also they helped the team on to victory.” Pom-pon 17
