Stage Band Has Something Extra—Style The Stage Band is a performing instrumental ensemble established for those students who have an interest in the jazz idiom of music. This music is different than concert music because it is played in a different way. They interpret the music in their own style. This year WHS Stage Band consisted of four alto saxaphones, two tenor saxaphones, one bari saxaphone, three trombones, four trumpets, a drum set and a piano. Mr. Occhi- pinti, the director, focused mostly on the popular jazz-rock sound in- cluding such songs as Saturday In The Park and Carp enters Now and Then . The band provided half- time entertainment at one basket- ball game and also palnned concerts for Nora and Apple River School. Their rehearsels were held at seven- thirty on school mornings, in add- ition to sectional practices. As the band was just organized in December, their plans for next year include many more performances. FRONT ROW: S. Hoffman, M. Buske, J. Meyer, J. Groom, K. Robbins, M. Ernst, B. Scheele. BACK ROW: M. Miller, D. Miller, D. Iserman, J. Ahlstrom, A. Miller, C. Scheele, P. Meyer, L. Iserman, C. Bourquin. 28

Enthusiasm is a word not often used to depict a chorus, but it describes the Warren High School Chorus quite well. Each and every member is enthusiastic. This is shown by many who give up their lunch hours to attend chorus practice and who also put in many hours at after school and evening rehearsals. Their per- formances radiate their energy. To Miss Henrich's delight, twice as many boys joined Chorus this year in comparison to last year, adding up to a thirty-eight member total. The Chorus set many goals for itself this year--most impor- tantly to get their own chorus hour during class schedules for next year. They performed whenever given the opportunity--including a program at Open House, a joint program with Stockton Jazz Band at Sinsinawa, and many other in addi- tion to their regular Christmas and Spring Concerts. Plans were made also for a musical. Music is very important to these students at WHS, and enough cred- it cannot be given to Miss Henrichs for the enthusiasm she is able to present through her Chorus. We Believe In Music
