“Homecoming 73” Begins In A Castle And Ends With A Sit-In 1973 Homecoming activities started out with the snake dance Thursday evening, October 11th, at Meridian Park. A bonfire and the cheerleaders magnified the student body's enthusiasm. The highlight of the Homecoming activities was Friday afternoon in the gym when this year's Home- coming Queen, Becky Thompson, was crowned by King Jeff Blair. Her court consisted of four other senior girls—Cheryl Baumgartner, Patti Krusiec, Anita Pepper, and Carolyn Schmitt—escorted by Lyle Tucker, Marty McKee, Corky Pansing, and Mike Mahoney. This year there was a Court of Roses consisting of two girls from each class: Susan Coad and Betty Park- er, seniors; Patrice Mahoney and Kelly Pepper, juniors; Susan Pet- sche and Jan Trevethan, sopho- mores; Martha Blair and Jan Schu- bert, freshmen. They were escort- ed by eight W-Club members. Following the crowning at 3:30 p.m., the annual parade took place in downtown Warren with the juniors taking first place with their float, Beat the Beavers. The Warriors were ousted from a Homecoming victory as the Lanark Beavers led the way with the final score 34-12 at the Friday evening game. Saturday evening's annual Home- coming dance had the largest turnout in years. Unfortunately it turned into a sit-in with Johnny Mathis records because the band didn't show up until 10:30 p.m. Truly Homecoming 1973 was very different. 18 Juniors place first for third time
