This is another step towards modernization and our Senior Class is proud to have had a part in it. Many noons were spent waiting to get to the food. These and many more memories will be remembered while paging through this book. 3 Tftbta Cwtfewfc Administration ..............................................................Page 5 Seniors......................................................................Page 11 Underclassmen................................................................Page 19 Organizations................................................................Page 27 Athletics....................................................................Page 39 Activities...................................................................Page 49 3 M(WMj QajoAPj Appfo Rmm G%otA lO iPy AJojuiQMj Cckool BoW FIRST ROW: Recording Secretary M. They as a class are furthering their education by reading different stories in their class meetings. They are becoming more and more acquainted with the ringing of bells and the hustle in the halls. The Sophomores are doing well on their second step on the ladder. They had a very delightful and successful dance. Another project of success was their candy sales. All in all they have become well adjusted to life at Warren High. The Junior Class has made excellent progress this year. They made a record of 628 sales which netted the total amount of $2,252.20. Many of the class members have stuffed dogs at home as a rememberance of this achievement. They also had a very successful after-game dance and a lovely Valentines Dance. Much work went into the Junior Play plans and the spring prom. They are looking forward to their Senior year. QbmUM The Senior Class of 1963 has been so ambitious for three and one-half years that we can sit back and watch the other classes work the second semester. Our Freshman year we sold candy and fruit cake, our Sophomore year we sold candy and had two bake sales, our Junior year we had our magazine sales, and our Senior year our largest project is the school annual. Our class play, Don't Take My Penny was a big success. We are looking forward to our class trip to New Orleans and gradua- tion on May 24. 26 SNOIlVZINVOaO FIRST ROW, L. to R.: L. Van De Mark, B. The Student Council's many endeavors have proved to be quite successful this year. The Homecoming Dance was one of the most successful Homecom- ing Dances held. We attended the Student Council Sub-District Meeting and were successful in getting Jerold Spinhirne elected as Vice-President. The newspaper has been adding new sections and new ideas to the ground work which was done on it last year, in an attempt to please its readers. The con- cession at the Tournament was quite successful in bringing in additional funds for the next school year. (STANDING L. to R.) M. Holland, C. Hughes, D. Reisner, C. Whatever the sport, their aim is the same. Cooperation, good sportsmanship, and fun; these are things you learn at G.A.A. The highlight of the G.A.A., social sea- son, is the Sadie Hawkins Dance, which was ruled over this year by Daisy Mae — Diane Russell, and Lil Abner--Dave Gerber. The hopes of each G.A.A. member is to be one of the lucky two who are chosen to attend Camp each summer. 32 FIRST ROW: Mr. Scott, S. Kant. SECOND ROW: T. Schrimer, K. DeMuth, M. Leehan, F. Grindey. During Basketball season they sold school pennants and were also responsible for the parking and physical arrangements for the Jo-Daviess County Basketball Tournament held in Warren. The year will be capped by the annual W-Club Picnic for members, coaches, and cheerleaders. 33 BqmAj The High School Band plays a big role in our school's activities. They represented the school in sev- eral places this last summer and fall. They marched in parades in Benton, Lena, Stockton, Orangeville, Platte ville, and at all our home football games. They played for the dedication of the new Post Office, at County Institute, a Christmas Concert, and plan a Spring Concert. The Pep Band, consisting of groups from the Concert Band and directed by Marge Burmeister and Don- na Bausman, played at our home basketball games. The band membership has increased to 87 students. Mrs. Geach really ends up with some problems sometimes but always manages to get them worked out. Tft B?uG ife Last year the stage band was started by Pete Geach. The highlight of this year's basketball season was the winning of the Stephenson County Bas- ketball Tournament at Freeport. The Warriors in winning this tournament added a new shine to the trophy case and gave the teams in the Stephenson Conference something to think about. Another highlight in the season was the capturing of third place in the Jo-Daviess County Tournament. As this yearbook goes to press the Warriors have two games remaining in the regular season and are presently in a tie for first place in the U.S. Grant Conference with Elizabeth. The season record to date is 15 and 7, a very good season indeed. Well done Warriors! The team rallied heavily on the fine playing of a group of Sophomores, but received some valuable help from the Freshman members of the squad and at press time had a 9-7 record in conference play. Mr. Huckstep developed a fine group of boys and they promise to be of help to the varSity next year. After losing the season opener to Orangeville, the Warriors came back to defeat Dakota and East Dubuque respectively. The next four games were unsuccessful for the Warriors including Home- coming game, when Le-Win scored a touchdown with only a few seconds left to play in the game. The Warriors came back strong for their last game of the season and rallied up the highest score of the sea- son, when defeating Pearl City 27 to 6. Lettermen for the season were Shultz, Heindel, Beall, Prange, Gerber, Shere, Gille, Smith, McKee, Sigafus, Balbach, Shaw, Rowe, Winstead, Brinkmeier, Hurst, DeMuth and Sophomore letterman Richard Leitzen. All conference selections were: Harold Heindel and Gene Gille on the defensive team. Duane Shultz was the only one that got special mention from Warren. At 7:00 on May 12, 1962 the Juniors, Seniors, faculty, and school board came to the annual banquet. Reverend Peterson gave the invocation. Some of the Sophomore girls served the dinner and the boys helped to assist at the dance. We danced to the music of the Ken Williams Orchestra . The gym was decorated as an old-fashioned park with a wishing well, rock-garden, park swings, a water fall making a stream across the gym, and the band on a dock by the stream. The queen, Diane Russell, was crowned by James Breed, last years king, who escorted last years queen, Linda Boelk. The King was Duane Shultz. The queens attendants were Patsy Davis, Judy Car- penter, Carol Hughes, Wilma Beall, Loma Beall, and Marge Burmeister. They were escorted by David Gerber, James Cropper, Bill Determ an, Richard Stump, Roy Prange, and Craig Gundry. h Nt ” i Am. On October 13, 1962, the annual homecoming was held. They played several numbers depicting America. At 9:00 p.m. the dance was held in the new gym with orange and black decorations. We danced to the music of the Ken Williams Orchestra.
