WARREN HI ECHOES Football The 1945 football season was not a very big success In the minds of the Warren players and fans. Warren had a good many bad breaks in football games this year, but that’s the w ay the game goes. WARREN 6 — MT. CARROLL 19 The first game of the season was under Mt. Carroll’s lights, and a bigger and faster team beat the game Warren eleven in a very good contest. WARREN 6 — STOCKTON 8 In this game the breaks started against Warren. This was Warren’s best game of the year against their arch rival. Stockton, and it was “one of those things” or the orange and black would have won it. WARREN 6 — GALENA 7 With ability to add the point after touchdown the means of tying the score or losing the game, with all the luck again t the Warriors, they lost a tough game. WARREN 47 — HANOVER 0 Playing a weak Hanover team, Warren won their first game of the year, scoring on the first play and in every period after that. WARREN 6 — EAST DUBUQUE 19 Playing the conference champs, the Warren team was outclassed and out-played. Warren scored first and upset their opponent’s confidence, but they had the stuff to come back fighting and w'on the game. The high school boys held a volleyball tournament this year, having , two teams from each class. They chose name? for themselves, which were: Crows. Whites, Blues, Old Hens. Ducks; Sparrows; Peli- cans. Red Birds, Greens and Blacks. A team of Senior boys having the name of Red Birds won the championship. All had fun, and every boy in high school had a chance to play. The Sparrows won the consolation. Volley ball has been the top sport in girls’ gym class this year. One volley ball game was played between the girls’ gym classes in January. A volley ball tourna- ment was held in March between the different classes. Otherwise we have had no tournament games, but have frequently been indulging in volley ball in our regular gym periods. Relay races, exercises, baseball, and a little ba sketball, have also been some of our recreational sources under the leader hip of Mrs. Kay Baker and Miss Catherine Carter. During the football season, some of the girls enacted a little game of football at one of the pep- meetings. The others, awarded to the co-champions of U. S. Grant con- ference was held jointly with Stockton. One of the most highlighted games of the season was with Stockton in the county tournament, a game in which we were beaten by one point. In the opening night of the Mt. Carroll tournament Warren beat Sav- anna, which was rated to win by the best authorities. In the Freeport game in the semi-finals of the regional tournament Warren was defeated for two reasons, one of which was not the Freeport team.
