HARDING SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL Warren, Ohio Volume XXXIX 3 Being a Part of the Community.. Since the center of our lives at present is education, much of what we do revolves around and through our high school. The time we students and faculty members spend here is only part of our lives, however, for HilI'Clll1glS pattern of activity is closely inter- woven with that of thc C0ll1D1Lll'llly. We have many outside in- terests, and thc outside often comes into our school. Through individuals, clubs, and sports, our school maintains a close relu- tionship with society. In summer er in winter, Warren's courthouse park provides an attractive couniy seat. 4 No School Stands Alone Our Administration 0ur Faculty Our Students Our Curriculum Our Organizations Our Activities Our Programs Cur Sports Our Departments Have Out-of-School Interests Take Us into the Community Page 124 Bring the Community to Harding guilt' i Nail? 1. The 1958 crop of tennis players brought home eight victories while suffering only two setbacks, both to Youngstown Rayen, under the leadership of Coach Michael Marcarello. The team began slow in practice but after rough spots were rubbed out, the netmen emerged overconfident as the opening round against Rayen indicated. The Panthers lost by a close 4-3 score. A second clash with Rayen in the next to the last match of the season once again proved fatal as Harding's winning streak was snapped. Up to that point the locals had romped over their seven preceding opponents by wide margins including three shutouts. Marcarello revealed that in seven years as tennis coach, his teams have received the most trouble from Rayen. One of Marcarellds proteges, Gloria Loychek, received the Outstanding Trophy Award from the Warren Tennis Club. The baseball team experienced an exceptionally successful campaign under the direction of Coach Paul Hughes despite two stinging submissions suffered to Niles. The locals compiled eleven wins against only four losses. The Youngstown Mooney scrap played in Warren at Perkins Park probably highlighted the season when senior john Moore hurled a no- hitter to snap the squad out of its only losing streak. john's no-hitter was threatened when a Texas Leaguer slipped thru the hands of XVillie Alones allowing the slugger to reach second base, but the play was ruled an error. Final score was 10-O. The Panthers were red-hot in the tournament until they met Lancaster in East Liverpool.
