Over two hundred boys and girls are enrolled in the seven periods of mechanical drawing. The machine shop operates on a twenty-one hour schedule. It not only contains nine hours of classes for the regular Harding students, but it also func- tions twelve more hours of the twenty-four to meet the needs of cit- MECHANICAL DRAWING Mr. VVilliam B. Cass izens who are preparing to take their places on the production front. Besides, Mr. Nickel and Mr. Kraker teach National Defense Classes eight hours every Saturday and Sunday. Woodshop boys have given real service this year since materials are more difficult to secure. They repair all broken furniture of the school. They have built bulletin boards and the handsome visitor's desk on the first Hoor. The training in Wood- shop helps boys secure rating as car- penter's mate in the Navy, as Well as obtain jobs in airplane factories. The school has already received letters from boys in the service, say- ing they are receiving promotions in the Army because of the skills they were taught in the vocational train- ing courses. Services of the A Cappella Choir and the Orchestra are in perpetual demand for civic, school, and patriotic gatherings. A Choir broadcast urged the donation of blood for the Red Cross. Another pro- gram was in memory of Pearl Harbor Day. ln one patriotic assembly, the Choir presented a new number by Mr. D. Rhys Ford. This song, called HThe Flag of Faith, is lovely in sentiment. Safe 'neath its graceful folds lllay fwe e'er be, Conscious of the peace it holds, While 'waving free.
