l-li -Y CLUB The purpose of the Hi-Y Club is to creatlmaintain, and extend high standards of Christian character throughout the school and community. lllembership is limited to thirty-five boys who are voted in on points of sportsmanship, speech, character, scholar- ship, leadership, and dependability. The annual Hi-Y dance was held in the fall. Besides informal 'fBean-feeds and picnics, a farewell banquet was given in each semester to honor graduating members. Such speakers as Ernie Hall, ll. llollenkopf, and Ben Kniffen addressed the club on various occasions. Among the outstanding activities was the help given to the Junior Red Cross Christmas drive and to the library's book campaign. O. A. Lovett is faculty sponsor, while officers this year Were: H. R. Lilley, Presi- dent, Avery Phillis, Vice President, Harold Smith, Bdike Hydic, Secretary, Wilson Binger, Treasurer. FRIENDSHIP CLUB Under the direction of Opal Briley, Y. W. C. A. Secretary, the program this year centered around interest groups in order to accommodate the three hundred girls enrolled. These groups and their sponsors are:Personality Plus with Carolyn Whit- comb, Sociability a la Post with Helen Holt, Little Theatre with Gretchen Wilhelm, lVIrs. Isabel McFarland, and Frances Messer, Decorative Arts with Elizabeth Frank- lin, lWodern Poetry with Dorothy Yost, Books with lVlargaret Cleveland, Swimming with lva Atkin. Activities advanced under the guidance of President Sarah Jane Elliott assisted by the other officers: Margaret Bartholomew, Vice President, Justine lVIcConnell, Sec- retary, Diary Frances Weirick, Treasurer. Also in the cabinet were Evelyn Brewster, Nliriam Jones, Blarion Dravis, Patricia Reed, and Betty Williams. Special events were in charge of sponsor Ruth B. Wheeler. Outstanding were Mother-Daughter Banquet, Youth Conference, Christmas Assembly, Easter Recog- nition Service, and the Christmas and Spring dances.
