Text from Pages 1 - 184 of the 1985 volume:

SIGHTS AND SOUNDS Each day is a new beginning for EASTON EAGLES; a beginning filled with a variety of sights and sounds found nowhere else in the city. From the silent hush of the early morn- ing hallways, to the pounding beat of stu- dents rushing about, intent on a purpose, Eas- ton Eagles go through their day with enthusiasm, spirit and pride. Our goal is to strive; for success, spirit and life. It is here we learn to communicate, to grow and to share ourselves. Together, all Easton Eagles have made the year 1985 ... LIVE ... The sights and sounds began even before school started. From the new Freshmen waiting patiently for their schedules, to returning Eagles, excited about seeing old friends. Eagles thrilled at the beginning of the new school year. 2 An Eagle smile from Marion Watkins. One of our sparkling Eaglettes; Pam George. Pretty Julie Brue works hard as a Cheerleader. Anthony Thomas' cymbals shook the dome. Sr. Kerry Kinchen helped out at school even before we opened the doors. Dorion Nelson looks on as the team brings in a tie score for the first game of the season. 3 EAGLE SUCCESS Senior Ana Sauceda knows what Eagle success means to her future. Easton students strive for success in everyway. Of course, we strive for it in the classroom, working hard to ensure our fu- tures. But success can be found outside the classroom too. Whether we are trying for that elusive touchdown or stepping high as a member of the majorette team, we aim to do our best. Only in this way can we hope to succeed in the all important game of life. As Easton Eagles we learn to broaden our hori- zons and move ahead. Bruce Brown understands that hard work is the key. Lorna Martinez and friends enjoy being Eastqp Eagles. Happy Eagle smiles on the first day of school. We have pride in our school, its reputation and in ourselves. We cheer, unashamedly for our teams and join our cheerleaders, marveling at their expertise. We smile with pride as we watch our Eaglettes and High Steppers spark- ling on the field. We join our Eagle Band with youthful exuberance and support our organizations and activities. It is our students who make Warren Easton an exciting school, one to be proud of. It is our spirit that makes Easton a school that is LIVE ... in '85. Theodore Eden resrs after the game against Belle Chase It is hard work being one of Easton's drummers. Smiling Junior Eagles show spirit at an early Pep Rally. Dr. Barbara Ferguson, a former graduate of Easton. Dr. Ferguson has also attended the University of New Orleans where she received her doctorate degree in Education. Dr. Ferguson thinks that the students of Warren Easton are intelligent, responsi- ble and school spirited. She is in favor of the rules and regulations that set us apart from the others, and say that she would rather be here than any other school. Her duties as principal are many, and she is always busy. But as Dr. Ferguson sees it, her most improtant duty is to see that the students get the best education possible. We are sure that the Warren Easton Eagles appreciate all her efforts. Dr. Ferguson is very school spirited herself. She at- tends all the school activities and enjoys joining in the fun. Her work day is filled with conferences and never- ending paperwork But there is always time to enjoy being an Easton Eagle, and to watch a pep ralley or a break dancing contest. 18 ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS Working hard for us Ms. Demas attended Fisk University in Virginia and the University of New Or- leans. The belief that Warren Easton is one of the best schools in the city prompt- ed Ms. Demas to move from the Chemis- try department to the Assistant Principals post she now holds. She anticipates a great school year, with new leadership, new ideas and success at every turn. Mr. Sam Mondello is a 1946 Graduate of Warren Easton. He majored in Science at both LSU and Southeastern University. Mr. Mondello also feels that Easton is one of the finest schools in the city, and he hopes to see the school continue to im- prove. Mr. Armand Devezin is our newest As- sistant Principal. He attended Southern, Xavier and Loyola Universities, majoring in English Education and Administration. Mr. Devezin believes this is going to be a really successful school year, and knows that Easton is one of the best schools in the city. Our Assistant Principals are busy all day, with stu- dents' schedules, the ever dreaded demerits, confer- ences and just plain work. But they all take time out to smile, and make someone feel better about a problem. 19 EASTON'S FACULTY—Working Df. B. Ferguson—Principal J. Demas—Assistant Principal S. Ms. Curtis gives her class notes to study for the holidays. Must keep on our toes! 27 SENIORS IN LIVE The class of '85 should be proud of its officers; they are hard work- ing, involved and dedicated. Each is different, but all have one goal—to make the Class of '85 live. President Zara Green was asked how she hoped to make this year the best ever, and what she saw her role as. I hope to be a working president; one who is in the thick of things. Vice-President Andrea Lassar says she really has an easy job. Working with Zara makes it all easy. I'd like to wish the class the best of luck for their future. Class Secretary Lorene Harmon has been on top of things. She really keeps busy jotting down those meeting minutes and keeping ev- eryone organized. Treasurer Adrian Kirkling and Business Manager Kim Jaeger have worked together to make sure every Senior was mov- ing to the right beat; paying bud- gets and receiving supplies on time. The class Historian, Leonor Salmon has been busy, recording all the events that make up this year. When this year is but a reflection of a memory, we will know that the year was a better one because of the Of- ficers of '85. BRUCE ALLEN WR Foot ball; EAGLE Staff-Sports • Editor. They hold meetings regularly preparing for junior package and living up to obligations. Juniors are sponsored by Ms. Judy Demarest. With the help of her Junior Committee she manages to give each junior class the kind of year they dream about, from that all important Jr.- Sr. Prom, to sweatshirts and yearbooks. This motivates students into a more spirit- ed mood for their senior year. It feels great to be here at Warren Easton. I don’t like the dress code so much. It feels strange to wear dress pants everyday. But I can get used to it. I like Easton. Raquel Davenport, one of our Fresh- men students feels she made a number one choice when she chose Easton. Freshmen make their time at Easton life. If they don't do it for themselves, no one else can. Not real happy about the dress code, but then I do realize it will pay off in the long run. so I guess I can live with it. Delrio McGee, better known as Moon to her friends, is interested in many of the activities we offer here at Easton. She is planning to participate in as many as she can during her four years at Easton. The sen- iors this year are looking to accomplish goals and reach new heights. This year's defense has more pride than any defense Easton has ever had. There are 6 seniors on the defensive pride team: Rundy Wells, Robert McQuirter, Dean Boult, Michael Lee. Joseph Johnson, and Robert Hamilton. We can't forget the un- derclassmen who gave those seniors need- ed support: Patrick Johnson, George Page, Lionel Walker, Kerry Santa Cruze, Charles Hall, and Roy Montaque. To accomplish something you have to use all your strength and potential. You have to make a very confident move. The Warren Easton's Eagle offensive pride team has it all. It has all the enthusiasm a team could have. Easton's offensive drive team consists of 10 seniors: Mark San- difer, Steve Mistretta, Sidney Dubuclet, Bruce Allen, Earnest Shephard, Tyrone Causey, Dane Spearman. Randy R Robin- son, Terrell Stelbler and Jose Torres. There are some underclassmen who are absolutely necessary to that offensive drive: Ralph Weatherspoon, Kenneth Bai- ley and Dwight Elmore. 80 You can't catch an Easton Fighting Eagle. “But Coach, what did I do Now?” 81 The 1984-1965 Football Roster M. Dwight Elmore finds an opening, and he's off to the races. A perfect way to run the handoff. Reach out and go for that touchdown. 83 The eagles go for the kill. Dwight Elmore takes time out to look at the camera. Coach Costa explains why we ran that play. The game is so exciting. He's on the prowl, and meaner than ever Jose Torres holds as Randy Robinson kicks. Don’t fuss at me. I had him. 84 VARSITY BASKETBALL This year's Varsity Basketball team is one of the best in years. The Eagles have a record of 14 wins and 6 losses. The team has aver- aged 52.9 points a game, while their oppo- nents have only averaged 46.8 points. That's a difference of 6.9 points in our favor. And all Eagles, stu- dents, faculty members and fans can hold their heads up high, and be proud of our Marching band. Their dedication and showmanship comes from within the band.
