Presenting .. . The 1984 Eagle Warren Easton Fundamental Senior High School 3019 Canal Street New Orleans, Louisiana Adam Dees, Editor ‘And what is it to cease breathing, but to free the breath from its restless tides, that it may rise and expand ... ’ —Kahlil Gibran For the loyal, unselfish love shown to our school and community, this book is dedi- cated to the memory of Mr. William Ox- ford and Carlos Troyo. Table of Contents Introduction 4 Administration, Faculty, Staff 14 Seniors 30 Juniors 56 Sophomores 68 Freshmen 80 Organizations 90 Homecoming 113 Athletics 124 Advertisers 142 Dancing, singing, cheering, or watching from the sidelines satisfied desires for activities and relieved us from the pressures of the classroom. Although we were serious with our work, we enjoyed playing and will cherish memories that boosted school spirit. We had our famous pep rallies pri- or to the games and went crazy with confetti, screaming, cheering, danc- ing, and music. Then came the nights. Our spirits were already boosted from the previous rallies, so we never had an unspirited game. Eagle fans were always ready to cheer our school on. Whether we won or lost. Eagles were always number one. I 4 CLOCKWISE FROM TOP LEFT As homecoming night comes to an end. Tony Troyo takes time to dance with his sister. Janie Hernandez, former graduate. At the homecoming game, sideline crowds in- tently watch a play. Accompanied by Michael Mason and Daryl Payne. Sclvin Allen puts romance into ‘Slow Jam’. Not only typing classes, but all classes kept fingers, minds, and eyes busy. In a halftime show, the band and the dance team daz.zle the crowds. Caught by the excitement of the moment, Joancll Cordova turns to watch trailing pom poms. 5 6 CLOCKWISE FROM TOP LEFT Next year’s freshmen received more than a warm welcome from junior. Michael Garibaldi, at freshman orientation. Spirits rose and hands, feet, and mouths were used to show enthusiasm at the homecoming pep rally. Coach Martin, along with all the supporters, gave a loud cheer for the eagles as they made another basket. Students who make Easton special sat back and relaxed as the football team did just the opposite at the homecoming game. Eagles did it again. The victory over St Ber- nard at the homecoming game was celebrated by the players. FBLA induction ceremony went as planned. Dr. Burnett said a word to students who will one day be business leaders. 7 CLOCKWISE FROM BOTTOM LEFT Whether it was at home or away in Florida. Greg- ory Ford always looked for some way to better his ability to play ball. ‘‘I will only let you lake my picture if I can show off my Americanism vs. Communism Essay Award.” says Edward Meehan. Industrial Art students appear to be enthused in what they arc doing. With all the spirit a principal should have. Dr. Burnett went with the team to Florida for our game against Woodham. The football team didn't always receive a compli- mentary meal from the opposing team, but as can be seen they enjoyed this one. These spectacular decorative iceblocks tempted Charles Pizzitolla and Chanell Gautreaux to pause for the moment at the Flomecoming Dance. 9 01 CLOCKWISE PROM TOP LEFT Coach Costa, with the feeling of victory, con- gratulated Gregory Rickson for one of his out- standing maneuvers. “Where’s the Beef?” Arlen Duplesis, Steve Soldano. and Adam Dees obviously didn't have it or wouldn't have asked the question. All the coaches watched the plays of our teams. Ushering at the Close-Up convention were Gloria Mejia. Georgina Acosta, and Mary Ann Hull. Edward Meehan tried to get the highest bid for Andrea Lee during the slave auction. Soccer team spirit was shown as the team shook hands with the opponents. 12 CLOCKWISE FROM TOP LEFT tagc of the opportunity. The fairly new computer class progressed quickly, and students like Hung Le took advan- “Juliet. Juliet, wherefore art thou. Juliet?” beckoned our dear senior class president. Mi- chael Wambsgans, hoping for a reply for a dale to the prom, only to find Scott Hunter in the window. Before their honeymoon. Robert Newman (groom) and Michael Wambsgams (bride) took a short break for a wedding scrapbook picture with Maria Angarita. Coach Costa, and Chanelle Gautreaux. The class of 1985 anticipated their final days in high school as they posed for their last junior picture. The Eaglcttcs strutted their stuff as a preview of what they did during the Mardi Gras pa- rades. Sgt. Jordan of the U.S. Army tried, without success, to recruit Cindy Leon and Chanelle Gautreaux for two years. Maybe next time. 13 16 Dr. E. Hayes Lionell Powell Byron Young “We can take it all the way come tomorrow, come what may ... You can't decide; the loser pays, and the strong survive. So take your shot; give it all you can.” Emmett Levine Moore After eleven years of hard work and fun we’ve finally made it! We are no longer juniors but seniors. Looking down memory lane we've had some wild and crazy times. It seems as though the good times out weighed the work. Even though we had to wake up early and study hard, it was an enjoyable year. We enjoyed laugh- ing and giggling in class when a joke was cracked. The friendliness of teachers also helped. We also enjoyed trying to out shout and out spirit the other grades, espe- cially the seniors. The nutty things we did during lunch such as food fights at Frostop, dancing in the streets, and just having plain, old-fashioned fun, are also memories. These memories of being a junior will always stay with us. After seeing the satisfaction of the seniors, all the juniors can say is there’s no stopping us now because we’re going all the way. 56 Juniors Kim Adams Bruce Allen Pedro Alvarado Maria Angarita Victa Armata Elizibeth Arias Kip Barad Phil Barrc Reginald Beaco Dana Beoh Julio Berrios Michael Black Lisa Blakcs Evcrettc Blakcs' Tammy Bourne Tonya Bournes Paula Brandon Jeffrey Briscoe Katie Brothers Keith Brown 58 Michelle Brown Russell Brown Troy Brown Vincent Brown Julie Bruc Adrian Bush Terrell Cage Herbert Carter Lonnie Carwell Hector Castellon Connie Chambliss Shcrwin Chang Rhonda Charles Dana Clark Lori Carwell Hector Cruz George Cruzado William Curtis James Dailey Joseph Dandrige 59 Donclla Daniles Zcncida Delva Margaret Diaz Clement Dison David Dixon Edward Dominguez Wilbur Dominque Doris Doyle Sidney Dubuclet Michell Duncan Antoine Duplcssis Maria Estevez Alex Flctes Raquel Fontaine Lavalis Fountain Nina Franklin Kent Frazier Herbert Gant Darlene Galland Elvin Garcia 60 Michael Garibaldi Channcll Gautreaux Pamela George Kara Gray Flora Green Michael Green Tracy Green Zara Green Thadcus Greenlee Paul Guidon Julie Guillory Stephen Harleaux Bernard Herman John Hernandez Yolanda Herrin Brad Hillard Terri Hillard Edward Hollinsworth Elex Hoscly Kim Howard 61 Carl Hudson Melanie Hyde Mary Irons Casandra Jackson Braylin Jacobs Melvin James Shelita James Charles JOhnson Earl Johnson Tracy Johnson Tremaine Johnson Vanessa Johnson Kim Jube Lisa Kirkling Carletta Landix Michael Landry St. Clair Larry Andrea Lassair Cariotta Lavallais Jorge Leal 62 Kara lebbe Michele Lee Monica Leggett Lakethia Lewis Javier Linares Melissa Lisenbee Shrell Lott Sabrina Luchion Gigit Lumar Alfred McCorkle Dion Macklin Marlene Maher Woodrow Mann Joseph Manuel Katherine Martin Rachael Martin Aracely Martinez Gonzalo Martinez Hugo Martinez Mario Martinez 63 Michael Mason Dwight Matthews Dean Mcillur Gloria Mcja Gerald Meredith David Miller John Mills Steven Mistretta Shannon Mitchell Stephanie Mohr Tamatha Montgomery Clarence Moore Leon Moore Monica Morgan Stanely Morlier Sonya Nash Terri Nelson Dam Nguyen Kenneth Payne Christsandra Payton 64 Rachclle Picket! Half-time they played songs everyone enjoyed, and were always in the spotlight to show our talents This game, the Eagles showed Florida how to “get Down” New Orleans style. In the history of our school, there are records of many strange invaders but none as unusual as a dragon. Only a seconds observation dis- counted preconceived ideas, and we quickly saw a new dragon who was spirited, colorful and playful. With new interests aroused, we noted the dragon froliced with students on the court and teased crowds with merry making inviting us to join in the fes- tivity. While our afternoon was enlivened with entertainment, we could hardly believe we were also being educated. Without traditional books, pens or paper, we experienced a traditional Oriental custom, the celebration of the Lunar New Year. We left with many questions in our minds that were readily answered by fellow Asian classmates and friends. We gained a deeper understanding and appreication for Oriental cultures. The dragon dance was organized by the Asian Club, under the sponsor- ship of Ms. Nguyen, and presented as one of the clubs contributions to the Cultural Events Series. The OLD GOLD AND PURPLE, the oldest school newspaper in the South, ran into financial difficulty due to increased printing costs. Thanks to the work of staff mem- bers in conjuction with senior and ju- nior package sponsors, a subscription was incorporated into these packages to insure a paper next year. OLD GOLD AND PURPLE lost support 111 Homecoming week was a welcomed diversion from ordi- nary routines and an insurance policy to guarantee Thanks- giving holidays would soon come. New energy enlivened old surroundings and generated enthusiasm. With a nose dive, we plunged into spirit week revelry. For a few days, we left dress code fineries on closet racks and decked assorted attires to play hobos, cowboys, 50's greasers and other characters. By the end of the week, Tri- Hi-Y's slave auction pushed spirits high. An unforgettable pep rally geared us for full swing. As our parade marched to the Superdome, we had no doubts about outshining St. Ber- nard. We held our heads erect as our majestic court was intro- duced to the theme song, TONIGHT 1 CELEBRATE MY LOVE. As the crowds cheered, we watched the court sparkle and, for the moment, shared the special magic of a fleeting night. Team spirit reached a high point, and Eagles played fan- tastic ball for an easy romp to the final 48-7 War Eagle slaughter. We left with good reason to celebrate. Homecoming activities culminated in the Grand Ball Room at the Royal Sonesta as over 300 of us danced, ate, and laughed the night away. At the end, we reluctantly departed clutching favors, keepsakes, photographs and wilting flow- ers. We stepped out of the night with only memories of a faultless evening. 112 Homecoming Queen Jodi Jordan is the daughter of Ms. Audrey Jordan. She has attended Warren Easton for three years. Dur- ing those three years, she was in the Key Club, Science Club, and on the Cheerleading Squad. Her hobbies in- clude reading, bike riding, volleyball, and traveling. She was born under the zodiac sign of Pisces. Her plans are to enroll in Loyola University for two years. She then plans to go to L.S.U. to get a B.A. in Physical Therapy. Dees With the completion of the '84 EA- GLE, I would like to express my deep- est pride in being the editor. I would also like to thank the facul- ty and staff. Without their unending patience and assistance, our job would have been much more difficult. I would also like to especially thank Mr. David Gingrich who has put a lot of time and hard work into the EA- GLE yearbook. Without Mr. Gin- grich's skills, knowledge and guid- ance. it would have been impossible. Finally, I would like to stress that a yearbook stands for memories and re- ferences of the past years. 1 hope that you will enjoy this yearbook as much as we enjoyed putting it together for you.
