Rhonda Roberts Willie Gant 53 Senior Class Officers A unique year of man’s life happens after he has completed three years of high school. The final year, senior year, gives the annual school events a new dimension and meaning by suddenly realizing the purpose of homecoming, dances, football games, and more specially the prom and graduation. In this respect senior year is unique, because it culminates three years of experience in a year of change. The final year sees youths become men, attitudes turn to ideas, and followers become leaders. Within these changes are the tensions of aggravation and disappointment in failure, and the jubilance and confidence in success. Upon finishing his last year at Easton, the senior leaves his sheltered life and enters into a competitive and challenging society. In the ensuing years of successes and failures, senior year will be ever present in his mind, heart, and soul. L to R.: Gwen Horn; Linda Pochc; Debbie Dendinger; and Rhonda Roberts. LAST ROW — Manager Henry Deist and Coach Steve Costa. 142 Reggie Elum, Dave Radecker, Adrian Panquemc and Philip Murphy 1973 Warren Easton Baseball Write-Up Warren Easton found itself in a tough position in March, 1973. Coach Steve Costa, in his first year at the helm, inherited a defending league champion club that graduated all nine starters. He had to start from scratch in building a competitive ball club since there was no experience with which to sprinkle the team. Pre-season prognosticators foresaw a long season for the Eagles, but the Eagles were so competitive in the first round that they surprised people by going 4-1, as runners-up to Fortier. Coach Costa hadn t wasted any time bemoaning his club’s lack of experience. Our kids have been well aware of the fact that everyone graduated last year, but there is a lot of pride in baseball at Easton, and they have just responded to the chal- lenge.” Going into the second round, the Eagles knew that the team to beat was Fortier. By beating the Tarpons, the Eagles could take a giant step toward the district crown. This became a reality when Easton’s scrappy team upset the unbeaten Tarpons, 3-2, in a last inning thriller. With Fortier leading 2-1 in the top of the 7th inning, John Lennox singled with two out and Greg Elum was hit by a pitch. Frank Batt then drilled a long triple to center to plate both runners and Easton had the lead 3-2. In the bottom of the 7th Fortier threatened with a man on second and no one out. Reggie Elum then struck out the next two hitters including Bobby Dean, the district’s leading hitter, and got the last man to line out to Lennox in left. With the biggest game behind Easton, the Eagles swept to the 2nd Round Championship beating Nicholls 3-2, Cohen 18- 2, Landry 5-4, and McDonogh 14-0. This set up a showdown with Fortier for the 8-AAAA Championship. It was not destined for this team to win the district title as Fortier downed the Eagles 4-0 before a jam packed Kirsh-Roo- ney Stadium and won a berth to the State Playoffs. The surprising season was topped off with the selection of four Eagles to All 8-AAAA District Team: Leo Ayers Catcher; Reggie Elum and Adrian Panquerne as Pitchers; and Greg Elum, Outfield. Coach Costa was named Coach of the Year in 8- AAAA. And the onward lunge of tireless will and sweep of his dauntless tread! Hurrah for the manly man who comes with sunlight on his face. And the strength to do and the will to dare and the courage to find his place! The world delights in the manly man and the weak and evil flee When the manly man goes forth to hold his own on land and sea! 231 UNKNOWN Autographs 232 Autographs 233 Autographs 234 Autographs 235 Autographs 236 Autographs 237 It.1
