In today’s world, to develop all your major internal powers for useful and effective living is essential. Do more than build a strong physical body. Don’t stop where the animal does but go beyond. Develop the mind and learn to use your intelligence. Link good judgment to insight and under- standing. Develop your spirit. The spirit of a person contributes to the type of life he lives. Cultivate a happy and optimistic sPirit. Learn to be sensitive to better things, to search for higher goals within your reach, and to make your aims practi- cal and useful. Strive to live above the average and lift the world a little higher than you found it. Develop qualities of character which increase others’ confidence in you and the overall value of your life. Strive for the best. Don’t be content with mediocrity. Be more concerned with what you are than with what you have. Realize men come and go, but only those with a high quality of life are really praise-worthy, are guaranteed enduring hap- piness, and are really contributing to a better world. Don’t specialize, to the neglect of the development of the whole self. You may restrict your channel of living and nar- row your loyalties to a few persons or groups but don’t forget the value of expanded horizons. Don’t live largely for your- self. Develop the necessary traits to include others as well. While you are developing yourself, remember: how you use today will determine how tomorrow uses you. E. R. Tootle, Principal II
