LILIAN LEVY Immortality is eternal life achieved through one's good deeds. Now and forever Mary Leidenheimcr lives on in the hearts of those who w-ere privileged to know her. and her dedication to her role of guide and mentor Ever shall remain with the students and the faculty of Warren Easton Meaningful words, gestures, smiles, unselfish acts, Ordinary everyday incidents, half- forgotten, but deeply felt Revealed her enthusiasm for life, her love of people, and her inner peace of mind Inexplicable is the mystery of Life, And Death it is that crystallizes the impact, the beauty, the inspiration of a dear and treasured friend; for God has endowded us with a price- less gift, the gift of Memory' - that intangible and complex emo tion of mind and heart that comforts and consoles even while it evokes in us poignant recollections of happier days when a glowing human being like Mary' Leidcnheimer touched our lives and left an imprint - gentle, lasting, unforgettable. 8 Beit i rato it to s. 'c Y r£ ct WARREN EASTON HIGH SCHOOL The old Warren Easton High School was completed in 1913 and started its first session in September of that year. The above picture shows it upon completion. In the summer of 1952, Warren Easton High was renovated. This was to prepare for the admission of girls to Warren Easton. At this time there was another change also. Easton had its first woman principal. Miss Amy H. Hinrichs. To the students: I his year our yearbook has chosen to honor Old New Orleans,” one of the oldest cities in the United States. As youthful citizens of this great city, it will soon be your privilege and responsibility to vote and to participate in all aspects of urban living. There arc those critics who say cities are either dead or dying, and it will be your job to prove them in error. Certainly, if New Orleans is to survive, it must carefully maintain a delicate balance between the need for preserving the old charms for the tourists and the urgent need for better systems of transportation. We can- not live entirely in the past, and yet we dare not neglect it since the tourist trade is the second largest indus- try in the city. When this new decade ends, all of you will have completed your formal education and will have been long time members of an adult society. Whether it will be a good society will, in part, depend upon the individual efforts of each of you. Easton has been a part of Old New Orleans” for many decades, and it will continue to be a vital part of the community with your help. CC'7 15 A MESSAGE OF THANKFULNESS What a blessing it is to have an outlook toward the bright side of things! It is a sad thing to reflect that in a world so overflowing with goodness of smell, of fine sights and sweet sounds, we pass by and take little note of them. Speak approving and cheerful words and in so doing fill your lives with sweet- ness. It is so much more comfortable and rational to see what we have to be thankful for and to rejoice accordingly, than to cloud our vision with the lacks and shortcomings of others. Happy are they that possess the gift of thankfulness. Blessings may vary but the grateful heart will remain forever. 'O. 16 Assistant Principal jfcmdtu MRS. The representatives have meetings to discuss the issues that may come up during the year. The pupils help the representatives to make all the functions successful. Elections for Student Council officers are held each year at the close of the second semester. Representatives from each homeroom are chosen in September of each year, and Sophomore rep- resentatives are chosen at mid-year. The Student Council sponsors the identification cards, sock hops, and the Homecoming Dance. The American Legion sponsors Louisiana Boys’ and Girls’ States in Baton Rouge for outstanding citizens in the junior class. Pelican Boys’ and Pelican Girls' are on the L.S.U. campus while Bayou Girls’ and Bayou Boys’ are on the Southern University grounds. The objectives of the program are to educate youth in the duties and responsibilities of American cit- izenship and to train him in the practical mechanics of government. A mythical 51st state is patterned after the Constitution and statutes of Louisiana. Citizens organize their own city, parish, and state governments. They choose their own officials with regular election procedures. They learn the duties of the various local and state offices. They introduce and argue their own bills in a legislature. Justice is administered by their own law enforcement agencies and courts. The eight day program demonstrates how democratic government is just what a citizen makes it as he learns while doing.” 173 Iflu Alpha (Ihota MU ALPHA THETA: Mrs. Hillburn, Sponsor; Eugene Durnin, Chris Becker.
