They rouse our spirits at football games and pep rallies, and they make us proud when they go to competitions and excell splendidly. They suffer through many headaches and rain- storms for us, but the saddest part of this story is that they're never truly recognized. They are The Warren Coun- ty High School Marching Band. They are the heart from which pumps the lifeblood of spirit and enthusiasm, The man behind this heart of hearts is Mr. John Russell, without whose dedication and energy they would never have come this far. This is a tribute to you, Mr. Russell, and to the Band which you direct. The Pride of Warren Countyn. Romance was in the air, and we shared the experience of finding new beginnings. We laughed, we danced just as Nancy Morrison and George Phipps did, right. We had stars in our eyes. For that one even- ing, we truly felt suspended in the best of times. Music for the evening was provided by Igni- tion. fcenter right! Couples stayed together with hopes that the evening would never end. flower rightj Todd Huffman and Michelle King seem lost in the romance of the evening, Steve Hatcher, the recipient of three awards, beams as he receives another. Farewell '81 Graduation is a time of rain- bows-a time of farewells and hel- los, of misty eyes, of shaky expecta- tions. The Class of 1981 finished the year with flying colors and graduation occured with all the usual pomp and circumstance. Many honors were awarded. Steve Hatcher received the Winchester Star Leadership Award as well as the Balfour Award and The Q.D. Gasque Scholarship. Wayne Wil- liams received the Hugh D. Hite Award, and Ruth Foster was the re- cipient of the Hope Harden Atkins Scholarship. The evening finished with the Class of 1982 receiving their candles which represent hope for us all. The Top Ten for 1981 were: Wayne Wil- liams, Caroline Waldron, Darryl Miller, Su- san Mead, David Manning, Beth Long, Kim Hawes, Patty Johnson, Steve Hatcher, and Kelly Corr. Patty Johnson, President of the Class of 1981, gave her traditional speech during the ceremony. v :C .. v- 2:2 ' 'Q as 3 wg if ci Ei E A en ii ,Q . gp C 7 Q S ldwf Summer Pun Cn X' GZ Q 3 D Cheerleaders Tammy Leep, Susan Rhinesmith, Q 15 Donna Campbell, Lisa Hensell, Sheen Campbell, LU DN M and Linda Hill attended camp to improve them- E -2 161, QS K selves for us. frightj 3 N ll 'X Sometimes people go a little crazy when the sum- D- Q Q h . . There was some- thing in the air that boosted our spirits - we were happy. Pam Devers was crowned queen, and no one even seemed to notice when her bouquet of balloons never made it off the ground. We cheered anyway as the radiant queen beamed. The next evening was filled with hard rock pro- vided by Grinder, and those who went to the dance en- joyed the Senior Class' efforts. Eleven-thirty came on fast, though, and the illusion of endless love was put behind us - for now. Although we did not win, our Wildcats put up a valiant struggle during the Homecom- ing Came. Marianne Harrison was part of the Home- coming Court. I had fun! , she told us, and we can clearly see that by her bright smile. Donna Campbell kept the cheers coming even under the weight of all those mums. !'0cm56yfa-152210141 'mme ' im N Lcfsw-4,,,gf L. You're up to your ears in home- work, you have two reports due to- morrow, and you have three tests. Lugging a mountain of books and groaning in agony, you step into the hall. Life seems so pointless, vacation never seemed so far away .. . And then, when you least ex- pect it, some loony comes around the corner and contorts his face and body at you, and the pressure is released in the form of laughter. Our halls are filled with loonies, like Tim Markee at right, who make it their business to promote laughter. What would we do with- out them? Greg Groves is caught here in a temporary fit of insanity. lt's not a pretty sight, is it? lsn't it cruel of Joe Weakley to try to shove Beth Napier and Mary Bethune into the floor with his elbows? It's hard work, long hours, and a feeling of pride when it comes out perfectly. Some people don't realize how hard it is to get into Dance Troupe, and survive it. First, there are the auditions. Mak- ing up your own dance routine is hard enough, but when you act out one specific word .... Then it gets pretty rough. After you make Dance Troupe, there are rehearsals after rehearsals after rehearsals. The exercises make you wonder whether you'll have to crawl the rest of your life. For many it means the A in that tough class, or acceptance to that college they've always desired to attend. For oth- ers, it means the recognition that they are achievers. The National Honor Society is the answer to that desire. It rewards a select few for those all-nighters they pull, the A's they earn, and the extra-curricular activities in which they excell. To be in the Honor Society, one must be in the top five percent of the class, which means one must have a B average from the eighth grade forward. One must exhibit leader- ship, character, and must provide service to the school. At the end of each year, the faculty votes on those who are eligible in the In class, and in a special ceremony old members tap the new merr and they are recognized by the tire student body. Now we can look back at our beginnings and smile. We started at E. Wilson Morrison and moved on to the 15th Street Intermediate School. During these years we learned the basics and discovered the opposite sex wasn't too bad to be around. At the Junior High, we took exams for the first time. By the time we were used to being bi, bad freshmen we soon became just another group of un- derclassmen at the High School. One important aspect of being a sophomore was receiving our dri- ver's licenses which allowed us to go cruising without mom and dad. During our junior year club period was replaced by reading period and we took the dreaded PSATS. This was an important year for us be- cause we had the responsibility of prom, which really did turn out to be The Best of Times. Our senior year brought the Pledge of Alle- giance and one minute of silence every morning. Our brains were tested by SATS, college boards and decisions about life after higl school. Our class is very unique ir many ways. We are proud to be the largest class to graduate in Warrer County's history. We won the mag: azine drive contest all three years and we had two Miss Warrer Countys from our class. Dur Higlr School memories contain electior day, snow days, Gee Whiz, Pizza Hut, Drive parties and friends we will never forget. Although we are a big class, we are a close class. We finally made it, and we made it tol gether. f gil W' fc f it sw' 1-4:1 N 1 Troy Edward Adams Josie Lynn Anderson Timothy Allen Anderson Timmy Dewayne Andrews David Steven Alley Terri Lynn Ardinger Frederick Paul Arena, jr, Mark Edward Athey Renee Denise Athey Donnie Ray Atkins i Lf fl- Eunice Faye Atkins Judy Ann Atkins we-we ww.-J Yam.- H, nr xv. 2 rf .fr mf' 'YW'-'we Tammy Elaine Baber jeffrey Lee Baggerly Clarence Edward Baltimore ,lean Virginia Baltimore Charles Alan Bass Gregory Paul Bauer julie Lee Baugher William Alan Beatty Tony Lee Bibb lack Woodrow Billhimer Sandra Lee Black Scott Shelton Blume David Aaron Boone Becky jo Botterbaugh Donna Elaine Bowman Pamela Lynne Boyd John Andrew Bracken Steven Leroy Bradley Tamberla lo Brady Lisa Lynn Breeden Pamela Sue Brewer Todd Carson Brinlclow Brian Lee Brogan Jerry Wayne Brown Sylvia Sue Brown Donald Albert Bull Larry Anthony Buracker Lisa Marie Caccavale Kellie Alison Campbell Sandra Nikka Campbell Lisa Michelle Capozio Sherry Lee Cather Jeffery Allen Chris-man Kathleen Gail Clark Tracy Lynne Clater Sheila Fay Clatterbuck Bobby Lee Clegg joseph Logan Collins Troy Frances Conway Loretta Cook QN- Katrina Diane Cooke Charles Otis Cooper Raymond James Cooper Kenneth Eugene Corbett Rose Mary Cornett Karen Sue Cornwell Catherine Annette Crim Jacqueline Bevone Cubbage Del Thomas Curry Anthony Todd Darr Sterling Price Davis Kenneth Allen Dawson Jacquelin Mary Denison joel Clarke Derflinger Pamela Kay Devers johnny Benjamin Dofermire, Ir. It's time to say goodbye to our Junior year. Although we might not want to relive our Junior year, we wouldn't have missed it for the world. Some of our fondest memo- ries have come from this year. We will never forget the pep rallies, the Homecoming Dance, and of course the Prom. One of our favorite memories will always be the mo- ment we put on our class rings, the symbol of all our hard work. It's not over yet but we've only got one more year to go. We're on our way! We can't leave without giving the Sophomores a bit of advice. Be- cause you're Sophomores, you don't posses the wisdom that we do. All we can tell you is to stick with it and don't give up. You've got a lot of rough times ahead of you but you'll make it, just make sure that you keep the name Junior something to be proud of. To the Seniors we give our best wishes. Now that you're leaving, you'll need to remember every- thing that you have learned. What- ever you do, we expect you to do your best and we'll accept nothing less. Good luck to all of you, The Class of '83 New Beginnings The sophomore year is a year for starting anew. The beginning of a whole new life at a new school. lt's the beginning of new friendships and new studies. It is a year like no other, but like all years, it will seem too short. Although at the beginning it seems that it will be a lifetime before your last year, your future lies right around the corner. As a sophomore you have everything ahead of youp the Junior-Senior Prom, the yearly maga- zine drive, and the famous Senior privileges. As the year ends these things will grow nearer or slip by. But this is just the beginning. We hope all the new beginnings will be happy and beneficial ones.
