SOCi21l tudies PTCPHTC Iohn Q. Citizen, For Life Page eighteen Teaching 715 students the how's, when's, where's, why's and who's of the old and new worlds is the main objective of the Social Sci- ence Department. Included in this depart- ment are classes in freshman guidance, United States history and government, which are all required for every student. Besides the re- quired courses are elective classes in family living and world history. To help keep history and government stu- dents informed about world affairs, these classes subscribe to three daily newspapers. Government students also receive Our Times, weekly current events magazine. By learning more about themselves through the extensive testing programs in guidance, freshmen are better able to plan their remain- ing three years of high school work. Family living prepares Warren seniors to cope with the problems they will have to face in their future home lives. Robert Carey's U. S. History class is illustrating the fact that maps, books, and newspapers are necessary articles in keeping up with historical events that have taken place in the past, and in the present. CLARK, RAY Math, Franklin College, A.B., Indiana State Teachers College, M.S. COOPER, S. E. Math, C. N. C., A.B., Butler University, M.S.g sponsor of Jr. Honor Society. HINSHAW, EDITH fMRS.D Algebra, Geometry: Earlham College, A.B. athematicians Struggle just when it seemed impossible to master those corollaries, theorems, postulates, logarithms, formulas, and axioms, some kind person gave a helping hand, and a solution to a particularly perplexing mathe- matics problem Was found. A teacher in the Mathe- matics Department Was no doubt that kind person who cleared up the mystery of the puzzling problem. The study of mathematics not only prepares stu- dents for future vocations and for college, but it also requires that the students employ the use of good reasoning power. At Warren, each student is required to take at least one math course. Seven hundred and ninety-six students were en- rolled in the algebra, plane geometry, advanced alge- bra, college algebra, solid geometry, and trigonometry courses which were offered at Warren Central this year. MUELLER, JOSEPH Geometry, Trigonometry, College Algebrag But- ler University, B.S.g sponsor of Mu Alpha Theta, chairman of Math Department. SPRUNGER. ROLLAND Mathg Indiana University, A.B., M.S. Oh, that is how that problem is worked. No doubt many a plane geometry student has made such a statement. just how to make those theorems work correctly with the right problem is the whole mystery, but Edwin Cooper, instructor, makes it look so easy.
