These things which we give to you were handed to us from , hi r ceding classes, hand them on. Ma you, in your last year at Warren Central, be active in those affairs wh ch will give you a wealth of knowledge, not only book knowledge, but al o that which is essential for you to live with other people and to be , h py. Learn, for only those who learn can benefit. Be happy, for hap- ,4 fy A p'ness is the golden link between mortals and their mortal brothers. Yes, L if we can leave you nothin else, may we bequeath you the desire to Nfl! 1 ,, 'L v learn and the ability to be Eappy. With these in your possession, the world is at your feet. Also the annual events remain, only one of each, for you to cherish and remember. Cone for us is the fun of the football games. The larger ma- jority of our fall nights was spent cheering our team. This team was r Q' composed of so many boys who played their last game for us that Octo- Muay 5 ber evening when they held Howe's fine team to a scoreless tie. That ff we will never forget for they did that for us. Never again, no never, '- fy will the names of that great football team appear on the Warren Central '-.R , roster. X 1 I, There is only one County tourney for you, too. Our tourney will live in f ,H the hearts of all for many years to come. Out at Butler that night were ,mfg yi' ten bitterly disappointed boysg swell boys, whose chances for a county title faded in those few seconds it took that Speedway layer to score ' two points. lt was a wonderful tourney for the Warren Clentral Seniors but even more wonderful for the seniors of that west-side school. This team's hopes at the sectionals were wiped out quickly in the first game. mg. The dances will come and go all too speedily, but they will go. The plays, concerts, and music contests are e things you will enjoy in 1949 and 1950, these are the things you must enjoy. A . Q We have willed to you our proudest possessions, those possessions '41 which have been the substance of our lives. Now we are to be gone, and you juniors will soon realize the importance of such seemingly small oments of fun. Bear no malice toward your fellowmen in the coming ' Z jjw' ine months for there is no time to make enemies. There is only time I mf 1 Q jjj' now to strive to be remembered. The various mathematics classes ofthe school have, as in other years, toiled through seeming problems of difficulty. The photography class has assisted in taking countless pictures for the school, under the direction of Mr. George Keever. A new teacher, Mr. john Porter, taught machine shop this year. X lt., f T' SLA S, In this the passing of Warren's 25th anniver- sary year we, with the seniors of '49, have dis- covered silver and now are looking ard to- ward the horizon of the 50th year. Let us hope that the underclassmen will go on to discover gpld. Gold is a recious metal but valuable t ings can only beIl1ad by those who strive dil- igently to be rewarded by them. This year's gifts of silver express partially that diligence through accomplishment which, of course, is necessary to reach the ultimate goalof success. We s edicate this book, Sasse -- our travel lo , to an unheralded lady whose thoughtfulness and tireless effort has contributed greatly to War-ren's efficiency. Yes, we have made a wise in presenting this annual in the honor of choice Mrs. C. E. Eash, wife of the school's principal. a 'mi hty fine journey we took through all riit. KI can confide in you.l I nev- er have seen so many things goin' on in one spot before in my life. It was Warren . . . . . . It was a fall day, September 7, lremem- ber?J that we loaded our supplies and set out for the trail ahead. By September 20 we really had be un our livelihood. All the organizations and cfubs were completing their plans, and chedules for the year s coming activities were bein ' ed. Miss Kathleen I-ler , i cal music, announced the members of the Madrigal on this date, too. I can see those youngsters now ...... all of 'em could warble like birds. After that first week things began pop in' like nobody's business. By September 27 it had been announced that the Warren Owl had been award- ed lntemational First Place of the Quil Scroll for the year of '47-'48, the sen' ere sprucin' up to have their pictures eng com- rehensive exams were over, the mi hty Warriors had romped away with the first gmt- ball event of the year, the Southport game 18-0. It-w'asT:n'a Monday, October 4, that news was flying of the senior lay. early laughed my- self sick the night of November itting there in the front row watching old 'Herb' Gage as he step ed on the stage to write his novel and then nearly have a nervous breakdown when all the confusion started.f'Course I suppose Mrs. Lola Pence did, too, trying to direct all those senior cutupsll The plot centered around a deed that had a 'they can live here any time clause' in it and believe me 'they', the Rockwoods, certain- ly took advanta e of that clause. I was mighty happy though when the Gage's and Rockwood's barn turned out to be the solution to their prob- lem. Yes sireee ...... some play all right! The week of the eleventh kept us jumpin' too! On Monday the Alpha Hi-Y and the Warrenettes mettodiscuss committees for the coming autumn dance. Tuesday, Yolanda Berry had been an- am argn and a tea was given for all mothers o new students. Wednesday, Warren's cross country boys decided to show off a little so they carried off the honors in the countymeet at Ben Davis. The scores were Warren 32, Ben Davis 42, and Lawrence Central 46. By Friday everyone was more than tuckered out but just the same six weeks exams were given and pas- sed for the most part with flying colors. f the magazine The Autumn Whirl was the next event that had us standing on our heads. The Warriors won 12 and lost 10 games last season as the squad stacked up an all time school rec- ord in offense with a 1,017 point total and a 46.3 average. Warren Central's former season offense record was 930 points scored dur- ing the '46-'47 campaign. Coach Clevenger's boys, though turning out a successful season, were pla ued by theufinals blues in two ofgtheir three seasons' net tournaments. Above are the Warriors and their coach following their 52-37 vic- tory over Franklin Township in the semi-finals of the county tour- ney. A strong Lebanon qluintetedgedtliWarrior netmen out of a Christmas tour- ney crown - after arren had downed Flora's five in the afternoon opener. The Warriors launched a brilliant hardwood display in the county tourney with a56-37 victory over Lawrence and a 52-37 win over Franklin Township only to finish close second 37-35, in the final game to Speedway in a heartbreaking double-overtime loss. The Warriors lost their season opener on home hardwood to Lawrence's charmed Bears but swept their remaining five visiting opponents to defeat. Trips to Lebanon and Peru highlighted Warren's road campaign. On Janu- ary 4, following the Christmas holidays, the Warriors traveled by bus to Peru. Both the varsity and the reserve squads made the trip accompanied by coaches Clevenger and Payne. The boys ate in Kokomo and had an af- ter-game dinner in Peru. The tri also financed new white and gold uni- forms which the Warriors initiates against Greenfield in their third home victory 62-61. For six members of BalphClevenger's thirteenth Warrior basketball team, last season marked finis to their high school court-careers. Bill Deer and Ed Wieland, the big boys under the boards, with their rebounds and tip-ins, and Duane Bruhn with his unique lay-in shots will be missed up front next year.
