During 1928, agriculture clubs in Virginian schools were organized called themselves Future Farmers.” The movement spread rapidly i n the other states and within a few years chapters were organized in every state, in Alaska and Puerto Rico. The Warren Central Chapter was organized in 1937. Vocational and 4-H work in Warren township is di- rected by Mr. Walter Mowry and Mrs. Vivienne Carter. They are assisted by twenty-two adult, twenty-three jun- ior and assistant junior leaders. Four hundred four girls and sixty four boys enrolled in six hundred fifty projects this year. National honors or trips have been awarded to Mar- aret Young, Jean Vansickle, Meta Louise Prange, Rob- erta Mithoefer, L’Ert Capper, Raymond Bottema, Dale Pruitt, and John DeWitte. A Purdue University scholar- ship was won by Eleanor Vansickle. A picture of outstanding 4-H Junior Leaders can be found on the double page in front of the book. FUTURE FARMERS OF AMERICA The annual event of the senior chorus, is an operetta. This year Blow Me Down” was pre- sented on February 16 and 17. Leading roles were taken by Frank McCord, Margie Burton, Clifford West, Mildred Trueblood, Donald Reich, Annabel Eakins, Irvin Prickett, Chester Perkins, Anna Rosemeyer, and Raymond Robertson. A picture of this group is to be found on the double page in the front of the book. The first band at Warren Central in the spring of 1928, was composed of twelve pupils. In the fall of 1928, Mr. Hamilton, became the head of the music department. The band has grown steadily since, and has now reached a membership of 55. The orchestra gave its first public performance in 1929. Contests were not participated in until the fall of 1932, when the band and orchestra won second place honors. In 1938, the band and orchestra won first di- vision in the District contest, and second division in the state contest. This year thirteen of twenty - nine entrances to the state class B solo contest won the right to enter the Regional contest held in Indianapolis. Those winning were; Betty Jane Dawson, John Sturman, Robert Clifford, James Laslie, Willard Holloway, Nellie Jones, Doyle Bowman, Jean Vansickle, Robert Vernon, String Quintette, Brass Sextette, wood wind, trio, standard clarinet quartet Football Football at Warren Central is still in its infancy; the game was installed last year as a major sport in the school’s activities. Under the excellent tutelage of Coach Stirling and Assistant Coach Acker, the players this year showed a marked improvement over last years squad and from indications next year’s team will be even more improved. Basketball The outstanding contests for the Warrior cage- men during the current season were two victories over Ben Davis, 35-21, and 29 - 27, and a victory over Broad Ripple 37 - 21. The team was com- posed of five seniors, three juniors, and two fresh- men, Gene Kirkpatrick was the leading scorer. At the close of the season Lawrence O’Conner was elected honorary captain of the squad. Track Of the several sports at Warren Central, track overshadowed only by basketball, draws the most attention to Warren’s athletic activities. With an impressive record of eight county championships since 1926, when the sport was in- corporated into the school’s athletic curriculum, Warren Central has gained the distinction of win- ning the event more times than any of the other county schools. Dramatics Journalism Activities of the speech classes this year, under the supervision of Mr. Moore, have been varied and interesting. The Valiant”, a one act play, was presented before the P. T. A. in November. At this same meeting, members of the class gave speeches on extra - curricular activities. A Christmas play, No Room in the Inn,” was given at the Dec- ember P. T. A. meeting. The class gave panel discussions on Socialized Medicine” and Changes in the Present School Curriculum”. Each member of the cast gave an oration, L’Ert Capper was selected to represent War- ren in the County Oratorical Contest. Betty Slentz was chosen to enter the American Legion Oratorical Contest. Yours Truly Willie” was presented as the senior qlay. The cast was composed of Lewis Randall, Pauline Smith, Jack Heskett, De- vona Mae Riser, Chester Cannady, Lillian Bodensick, Mildred Kit- ley, Ormand Patterson, and Bill Sharp. The main duty of the journalism class, supervised by Miss B. L. Williams, is to publish the Warren Owl and the Wigwam. Each pupil is assigned a beat, which they cover once a week. Special stories are assigned to those who are capable of writing them. Publicity of school activities is written for the Indianapolis papers by certain members of the class. Thirteen journalism pupils published the March 30 issue of the Butler Collegian. Members of the class are: Margaret Young, Lois Frisbie, Betty Slentz, Mildred Trueblood, Marigail White, Marie Davis, Mary Adele Baker, Betty Swarm, Marjorie Campbell, Margy Rogers, Dick Orr, David Scudder, Mike Thompson, Ormand Patterson, Kenneth Smith, Jack Heskett, Paul Beaman, Jane Young, Elinor Reidy, Lucille Miller, J uanita Hope, Lewis Randall, Roy Graham, Betty Haywood, Margaret Whitson, Chester Perkins, and Rachel Bright. wS OOHC znX ' Q OHC LOIS ALLEN R.
