Leslie, Claire Burtt (Nee Sloan) Boy. GROWING PAINS AT ROXY The internationally famous cast of Growing Pains opened their tenth year on the stage of the ’ Roxy Theatre last night. This comedy of adolescence is still retaining the same cast which opened on the Warren Central High School stage the largest rur- al school in the world. Miss Jean Claghorn and Mr. Ralph Reidy are still playing the parts of Terry and George, the young mischiefs of the production. ARBOGAST-REIDY WED IN CEREMONY An impresive ceremony was held in St. John ' s Cathedral this afternoon when Helen Arbo- gast and Albert Reidy (fam- ous actor) were wed in a double ring ceremony. The church was beautifully decorated with spring flowers and dark palms, sent from Jack Lowder ' s Florida es- tate. Miss Arbogast was attired in white brial satin. She was ac- companied by Miss Delores Welch and Miss Martha Meek. Mrs. Meta Matzke journeyed from Harvard University to serve as Matron-of-Honor . Miss Dorothy Jolly played I Love You Truly before the cere- mony on her famous Stradavar- ious. LOMBARD— 5 LETTER MAN San Francisco, Cal., May 30— Gordon Lombard, commonly known as Blondythatch, told re- porters today that he is now a five-letter man, S. S., L. A. and A. He received these degrees from Sing Sing, Leavenworth, Atlanta and Alcatraz. He has spent only two years at each place, while earning his letters. He also has been indicted on more charges than ony other person in the U. S. Namely; murder, three times, arson, eleven times, kidnapping once, grand larceny, three times, petit larceny 115 times and making faces at cops twenty-two times. ALUMNI AT WARREN Returning once more to their old Alma Mater, Warren ' s “Great Graduating class, met old friends from high school days, last week, May 25, at the new, modern school. Professor David Machlan, a teacher at Harvard welcomed the alumni in his capacity as class president. Robert Gibson Matzke, an associate of Professor Mach- lan was toastmaster at the ban- quet, Friday evening. Reverend Merle Iordan con- ducted services in the afternoon in memory of those who have de- parted from this great class. PROFESSOR BOTTEMA APPOINTED TO HARVARD POSITION Professor Raymond Bottema, graduate of Indiana University, was elected head of the Speech Department at Harvard Univer- sity, last week by members of the nominating committee ap- pointed by Robert Gibson Mat- zke, President of the University. Several well - known teachers were on the nominating commit- tee .namely: Prof. William Mc- Donald, Dr. Joseph Schloemer, Prof. David Machlan and Dr. Ed- gar Waterman. Professor Bottema is one of the youngest teachers ever to be on the faculty at Harvard. The Pro- fessor will specialize in Pig-Latin. SUMMA-HALCOMB TO PLAY HERE The world renowned Thelma Summa will make her Indianapo- lis debut at the Murat eTmple in a piano concert, Wednesday eve- ning at 8:00 P. M. Miss Summa will also be ac- companied by Miss Florence Hal- comb, professional accordianist. Miss Summa and Miss Halcomb have just returned to the United States from a concert tour of the Continent. SIX SENATORS SELECTED AS PALL BEARERS President Norwalk ' s closest ' riends and government associ- ates will carry his body to its r inal resting place on Tuesday of lext week. Six members of the United States Senate will act as otticial pall-bearers. Senators Lawrence Aople, John Dahl, Bob Toon, Mary Keever, Rosalia Gioe and Dorothy Slentz. The Reverend Merle Jordan will officiate and soft music will form a background, played by Holz- hausen ' s Hot Swingsters. The body will rest at the An- ton Kliene Funeral Home until the funeral Tuesday. Only relatives and close friends are to attend the funeral. Refreshments will be served. KINMAN WINS Miss Mary Kinman, a graduate of Warren Central High School was recently judged as the most beautiful girl in the United States, at the World ' s Beauty Contest held at the New York World ' s Fair, April 3. Miss Kinman has been awarded a ten-year contract with the “Ketch ' em Young Film Studio in Hollywood. She will journey to Hollywood by plane May 10 and wil be accompanied by her fiance, George Hudson, judge of the U. S. Supreme Court. BOY STRUCK BY AUTOMOBILE “Buddy Bashore, age 3, is in the City Hospital with a fractured unkle. Buddy was traveling on his kiddy car at a slow rate of sp ed when Miss Marjorie Stowe, 2039 Iowa Street, struck him with her monstrous motorcycle. Miss Stowe was absolved by witnes- ses. “Buddy is the son of Winfred and Audrey Bashore of 346 Guil- ford Avenue. PRESIDENT NORWALK SHOT WITH BOW AND ARROW As the nation mourned the death of it ' s boy president this afternoon, Lee Clifford Jr. was held for his murder. “Jackie , as he was fondly called by the nation, was assasi- nated by Lee Clifford yesterday afternoon as he sat in his box at the Lyric theater. He was with his fiancee, Miss Nancy Conna- ' oe who is prostrated and under he care of Dr. Alma Hunter. Clifford, who was heard mak- ing threats on the President ' s ife, pleaded not guilty and gave his alibi as insanity. He was adjudged giulty by a jury of ' ’even men and one woman. They ' ■ere Joe Davis, Paul Stoner, Bob Laing, Charles Waddy, Milton Brenner, ' Robert Whiteman, fron- ds Preston, Lawrence Apple, Donald Vansickle, Clarence Proc- tor, Bob Schiever and Florence Kirkhoff. His Honor, Judge George Hud- son, said (in pronouncing judg- ment) that it was the worst crime ' ince the great Graduation. If you will recall, that was the case where the seniors of ' 38 were graduated from Warren Central and turned loose upon an un- suspecting world. Clifford was one of the members of this class. Clifford will bethe first prison- er to be executed by the secret process which was perfected by Dr. Emerson Applegate, who has recently been dismissed from medical school for alienation of the affection of Miss Connaroe. The only person who is to be allowed to witness the execution will be his moll. Hazel Tracy. VICE-PRESIDENT TO TAKE OATH Jefferson Clyde McCbnnell will be released from the Indianapolis Home for the Insane, May 30 in time to take the Oath of Presi- dency May 31 at Washington, D. C. He will officiate in place of the deceased president.

CLAGHORN SWIMS ATLANTIC IN TWO DAYS Miss Jean Claghorn who star- tled the athletic and medical worlds by swimming the Atlan- tic ocean in two days and em- erging as a Mere-maid said (in an interview, May 28, the day after her feat) that she es- pecially enjoyed her conversation held with Father Neptune. He was, she reported, suffering from the gout. The Queen Mary, now convert- ed into one of the smaller gar- bage scows, reported that Miss Claghorn passed them making 150 knots in an old rope.
