BOARD or sci-loot oimsoroas VERY smoothly operating system requires a clever and practical executive board, the duty of which is to provide a workable code of boundaries in order to maintain a high standard of efficiency. Such a group is the Board of School Directors of War- ren Borough. VVarren is fortunate in having as members of the Board of School Directors out- standing citizens who accept this important responsibility. They devote their time and eiforts without remuneration except the satisfaction that an effective school pro- gram has been maintained. liflembers of the Board of Directors are seven in number and are elected at large for a term of six years. They are as follows: llelvin G. Keller, presidentg Ralph E. Brasington, vice-presidentg Homer KI. Klohr, secretaryg Neil D. Paterson, treas- urerg Dr. VVilliam RI. Cashmang Rev. Beecher ll. Rutledgeg YVallace H. Cowdeng and R. Pierson Eaton, solicitor. John G. Rossman was elected for a fourth term as superintendent of VVarren Borough Schools. 3 li ADMINISTRATION ASSISTANTS HE administration assistants are indispensable in keeping our school life running smoothly. They are always on the job and strive whole-heartedly to carry out the numerous individual tasks which go along with their positions. Miss llflartha Dutchess is the eHicient secretary to Mr. Bathurst. Her tasks are many and varied, including the keeping of the records and the answering of a con- tinuous line of questions. Charles Beck keeps account of the funds of the various school activities and is the clerk for the Board of Education. . lVIiss Laura Platerote is the friendly and sincere secretary to lVIr. Rossman. She assists him in the executive department. Essential to our physical growth and development is the Health Department. Dr. E. S. Briggs, the school physician, heads the staff of this department. He is very capably assisted by llflrs. Marion Robertson and Miss Margaret Horan. Henry Griflin is the supply clerk and handles the ordering of books, paper, and other classroom necessities. George Baxter, the chief custodian of buildings, is assisted by Ed Huber, Chester Nelson, and lllerle Fox. 4 COACHES OR the help and the guidance of our Coaches, We, the Team of 1946, Wish to express our gratitude. Their patience and their understanding have made our days in VVarren High School pleasant and profitable. We shall always have a place in our hearts for these friends who have given unreservedly of their time and their ef- forts to bring us safely to the end of the Game . . . CLASS POEM-- I 946 Our youthful days of sweetest pleasure Have slipped away. The last full measure Of a carefree world is gone. Today we face The sadness of this struggling race. :lt the future's threshold do we stand, .1 generation s hope within our handg For the youth of today, unknown to sorrow, llfill guide the destiny of tomorrow. From the fragments of a world war-torn, .1 rising note of hope is born. Our age must build a lasting peace, J nd from war's danger give release. lffe shall go forth with noble tread Of footsteps frm. Our honored dead Haw died that peace nzight be To ns who live-reality. - RIARCIA JOHNSON. I2 VARSITY HE year to which We, The Varsity, have long looked forward has slipped away, and it is now at the close of the sea- son that we begin to realize what the years spent in VVarren High School have meant to us. Here we have formed many lasting friendships and gained valuable experience through our participation in school activities. WVe are grateful to the managers who have been our -friends and advisers. Through the training they have given us, we have been better prepared for the new life we are about i to face. VVe feel that never again will so much be done for our welfare and our enjoyment. Commencement, the goal for which we have striven, has been achieved with heavy hearts but happy memories. The last quarter of our high school career has ended, and now we look forward to the part we shall play in the game of life . . . 13 wx N f Q W X Nxkfgb X, . R . .H ..,. is X- X 1 xo- iv.. . Languages helped in developing the intellect and in broadening the mind, and their study also had a practical use. Latin was of special interest to many students as a prerequisite for the study of law and medicine. German offered a knowledge of scientific terms to pupils interested in science. The under- standing of South- American Countries was broadened through the study of Spanish. All in all, languages enriched the cultural background, broadened the viewpoint, and allowed glimpses of other places . . . 76 Left to Right. Row l-Songer, Mr. Zulak. Programs were varied throughout the year and included skits, poems, songs, pro- jects, and spell downs. Under the direction of class leaders, programs were prepared and carried out entirely by students. The best articles written by high school Latin students were published in the Vox Disfipulorum, the Beaty Latin magazine. The outstanding event of the year was a tea-dance at which the German and the Spanish Clubs were guests. For the entertainment, the best selections from the year's programs were used. 78 Left to Right. Row I--Printz, Hamilton, Waller, Taylor, Miss Spencer, Clark, Mathyer, Smith J., Bathurst.
