Fitzgerald. The Wareham High School Key Club has certainly been an active one This year. AT The beginning of The year, The club consisted of seven members. IT now has twenty. The purpose of The club is To serve others in The community and in The school. This has been shown throughout the year by such proiects as visiTing the Lakeville Hospital and going Christmas caroling. OTher proiects include The annual Kick-Off Dance, which was a huge success, and a chess Tournament with Trophies given To The winners. The purpose of the Code Club is to serve and to help others in both the community and the nation. The motto of the club, Service Above Self, conveys the idea. This was shown throughout this year by such projects as visiting Lakeville, singing Christmas carols at the Tobey Hospital and the Roland Thatcher Nursing Home, decorating the Town Hall Christmas tree, sending books to Morrocco, and giving a food basket to a needy family at Christmas time. ln order to be eligible tor membership in this club, a girl must be a member of the freshman, sophomore, or junior class. These girls are voted into the club by the old members and must survive initiation day. The meetings are held once a week after school. Other projects engaged in by the club include a sounds contest, two dances, the Thanksgiving foot- ball rally, and several other worthwhile projects. ADVISOR OFFICERS Mrs, Caner Standing: J. Fahey The Newspaper Club is solely responsible for the production of The Gateway Gazette, which is published weekly by the Wareham Courier as a public service. All articles, editorials, and cartoons in the Gaz are products of the W.H.S. students on the newspaper staff. To become a member of the Newspaper Club, a student must be a reliable and mature writer, one who can meet deadlines, and one who is not afraid to spend time working over an article until it is in perfect shape. Being a writer for the newspaper also serves another useful pur- pose. lt gives a student an opportunity to voice his opinions and his desires. For the past two years, The Gateway Gazette has been the recipient of the first place award of the Columbia Scholastic Press Association.
