Gkss jlgfsfory ln September of 1965 the class of 1969 entered the halls of Wareham High School. We were now the low men on the totem pole. lt took a while before we became adiusted to the ways of the high school, but we finally made it. Of course, there were those who couldn't remem- ber where they were or where their lockers were. However, Mr. Burke had a detailed map of the school printed on all contact lenses. Our first class meeting looked like a political convention, but we managed to nominate and later elect our class officers. With the help of Mrs. Cleary, our class advisor, we elected Frank Bergamasco, president, Bette Joe, vice president, Robert Paling, treasurer, Linda Carey, secretary, and Donald Gomes, dance chairman. Just before Christmas, Donald and his cohorts got together and put o'n our freshman dance. It was called Christmas-A-Go-Go. After returning from the Christmas holidays, we were faced with a new challenge for us- Midyear Exams. Somehow, we managed to live through them, and the rest of the year went along without too much trouble. By the time the Final Exams appeared, we were professionals -almost! Our freshman year was all over before we knew it. We were now sophomores. That fall we returned to the hallowed halls of Wareham High School a little older and a little wiser-so we thought. Since Mrs. Cleary had left us, Mr. Cleary became our class advisor. It looked as though they wanted to keep us in the family. , Our new class officers were Francine Canute, president, Charlie Toole, vice president, Bette Joe, treasurer, Susan Marble, secretary, and Bette Nickerson, dance chairman. The Sophomore Hop, '69 Times, was fun for all involved, except for the chaperones who thought that the music was too loud. They were the only ones to notice it. Because we were sophomores, we liked everything loud-the louder the better. No one can ever forget our trip to Boston with Miss Shea to see Julius Caesar, or that horrible folk singer someone had found for one of our assemblies. ln June we retreated to our jeans and bare feet for a summer of beaching and boating unfortunately, it rained all that summer. ln September of 1967 we entered Wareham High School as the iazzy juniors. We were finally members of the upper half, and looked forward to an exciting year. Early in September, Mr. Cleary, our class advisor, herded us into the auditorium to elect our officers. The results of the election were Francine Canute, president, Susan Marble, vice president, Linda Carey, secretary, and Gary Franklin, treasurer. Dianne Winberg started the year by introducing her new sister to us. She was Afife Ozkok, an American Field Service student from Turkey. ln the middle of the year, we said good-bye to Mr. Longmore, as he moved into the Superinten- dent's office, and welcomed Mr. Paling as our new high school principal.

T We can all .remember The Battle of the Term Paper. lt all started in Room 6 with a list of topics and a little Blue Book. Since, for most of us, it was our first encounter with a term paper, we emerged completely baffled. A As spring rolled around, we anticipated a field trip to Fenway Park. When the day arrived, we were ready. We had packed everything from food to sunglasses. Even though we needed um- brellas, and the Red Sox lost, we all had fun, including Mrs. Burke. Along with spring came Final Exams. After three years of them, we managed to come through with our heads above water. Also, in the spring, we were saddened with the fatal shooting of Martin Luther King. ln May, the Class of 1968 left, and we unofficially began our reign as seniors. Wayne Lopes and James Walsh served as class marshalls at the graduation ceremonies. Robert Paling received the Harvard Book Award as the most outstanding iunior boy. Boys' State Representatives were Robert Paling, Robert Caldwell, Robert Alcott, David Hunter, and David Hocking. Girls' State Representative was Christine Braley. At last we made the big time-big, bad seniors! Remembering our freshman experiences, we played Pick on the Freshmen and the Sophomores and the Juniors. Co-captains for the football team were Ronnie Hunter and Wayne Lopes. We might not have had a winning season in terms of victories, but we had a tremendous year in school spirit. We beat the Bulldogs for the third consecutive year, winning the elusive Cranberry Bowl . . . for keeps! Our only senior on the cheerleading squad was Debbie Williams. At the end of the season, Jim Besse was named Best Offensive Player, and Ronnie Hunter was named Best Defensive Player. Both were awarded trophies. Gerhard Kellner came to join our class as the foreign exchange student from Vienna, Austria. He was the brother of James Eacobacci. Brian Fitzgerald and Dianne Winberg were chosen as TELFAD representatives from our senior class. During the fall, the students of Wareham High School experienced two bomb scares. The first time, we all went to the Town Hall while the building was searched. The second time, we all trooped into the small gymnasium at the Intermediate School. Those who couldn't fit were kep1 out in the cold. Our senior class officers were elected. Francine Canute was elected president, Susan Marble, vice president, Gary Franklin, treasurer, Aldonna Perry, secretary, and Patti Moore, dance chairman. At the end of the first marking period, we had our first Honor Society lnduction for the year. Seniors inducted were Dianne Winberg and Francine Canute. Gerhard Kellner was made an honorary member. These students ioined Bette Joe, Robert Paling, Brian Fitzgerald, Susan Kaasi- nen, and David Weeden, who had already been inducted as juniors. Some of our classmates received some well-deserved honors during the year. Kathy Barrett received the Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow Award. David Weeden was a semi-finalist in the National Merit Scholarship Test. Linda Carey was chosen Key Club Sweetheart.
