Individuals have faltered on the road to this great goal, but if all the peoples of the world walk the path together -in faith -there is hope. Yet, it is the choice of the individual: World Peace or world pieces? 'THEN SHAlL BH 'T E FkcO,y5,BcAREsgg A ,E 4 PRUNING Hoo P SWQRQAE 1 HALL THEY V I I3 THE FOREWORD We dedicate our Portico To the most important cause - World Peace is an essential goal Which deserves the earth's applause. We students here at school would like To join the nations of the world, To first establish and then preserve The banner of Peace unfurled. How can we do this? you may ask. Our schools present an answer, They must see that we are equipped When into the world we transfer. Scholarship, leadership, and service Are royally important to gain, But above these three reigns character, The crown we strive to attain. Gratefully we thank our Lord That we are men upon this land. Who am I? we ask our God. Says He, A precious grain of sand. A. Sunclstrand and B. Tait 455, cf' 3 ra.-f Top Row: Ross A. Cobb, Dr. John J. Mitchell Alexander V. Hamilton, Joseph E. Ludewig Bottom Row: Albert L. Canale, Carleton l Relyea, Treasurer, Charles J. LeRoy, Sr. Florence G. Gray, Clerk. Right: Roy C. Ketcham, President. Although this group of men may be unfamiliar to most of the student body, everyone is familiar with the work they do. These men spend countless hours fashioning school policy and dealing with the staggering problems of an expanding school district. To you, we wish to say, Thanks for the many opportunities you have mode available to us at Wappingers Central. 7 ADMINISTRATION Y.. This made it possible for the class to get its rings before Christ- mas instead of late in the year. Another high light of the junior year was the Junior Prom. Ellen Chattertown reigned as queen over a scene accented by blue and white. The senior play was the first of many important events which the class experienced in its last year in high school. The play, The Late Christopher Bean was a tremendous success and will surely go down in the record as one of the best ever presented at Wappingers. i WHO S WHO tv'-I 'H aff 4.31 nhagffl 5 P4595 ,.-1 Most Popular Best Dressed Don Grossman Una Treadwell Juhann McCabe Steve Rogers CFA Lx Best Looking Frrendlrest Bonnie MacTavlsh Lenz Brow Curt Langfoss Peter McCabe WH -fs Nlcest Eyes Most Consrderate Elaune Raflaele Margaret Dolflnger Al Bldwell Jan Brown Best Dancers Judy Ackerman Bernie Lopez Most Athletrc Pat Bruner Roger Mann fd! 1 -1- If Most Scholarly Carol Dethlefs Don Sage . . This class not only helps the school by taking pictures for the Portico and Wapperian but also them- selves by learning the tech- niques and technical terms of he camera. Trick photog- raphy is one of the special- fzed fields that they study. They also help to raise money by taking photographs for various outside newspapers and organizations. The school library is one of the most valuable tools the ,tudents have to use. The stu- dents who help the librarian willingly put in many hours ot needed assistance. They help the librarian to sign books in and out, file the books, and other things. 5 K: OFFICE PRACTICE many lc II of them for H. Baird. PINAFORE Don Bruner, Marlene Suga, Rose X Marie Francese, Emil Weber, Marie Diaferia, Linda McDermott, Sondra Murray, Robin Whitesell, Sailors. F199 OPERETTAS For the past two years, the G. O. has sponsored an operetta given by the members of the mixed chorus. The first of these was Gilbert and Sullivan's Ml- KADO. This operetta involved the story of the Mi- lcado's son falling in love. A great deal of confusion ensues, but as always in Gilbert and Sullivan oper- ettas, it ends happily. The leads were played by Richard Saltford, Douglas Hickerson, Hayward Jami- son, John Garment, Robin Whitesell,Jacqueline Besha, Patricia Pazier, Carol Dethlefs, and Sondra Murray. The story of H. M. S. Pinafore which was put on the following year was -in the Gilbert and Sullivan manner - also very involved. The scene takes place on one of His Maiesty's ships and depicts sailors and Britishers as characters. Leading roles were played by Douglas Hickerson. Thomas Cowlev, Richard Salt- ford, Don Bruner, Robin Whitesell, Sondra Murray, Jacqueline Besha, and Rose Francese. Both of these operettas were directed by Mr. Emil Navor and Mr. Anthony Frisina. ln each case, the leads were supported by the mixed chorus. MIKADO Robin Whitesell, Jackie Besha, Doug Hiclcerson, Joan Michelosky, Nancy Recchia.
