. . 'Y ' ::-3 Seventeen of the thirty-nine members of the 1954 graduating class started in kindergarten to- gether in 1941 and have been together all through school. This group is made up of Jim Kelly, Marjorie McConahay, Tom McDowell, Terry Poor, Sandra Brown, Merlin Schneider, Shirley Schwob, Horace Baker, Jerry Parish, Max Lihs, Marilyn Hayes, Joyce Hanson, Lois Ball, Richard Kerr, Nellie Campbell, Ronald Jack, Corwin Williams, Ruth Ann Gerling. Five others: Dale Eversmeyer, John Wright, Bonnie Courtney, and Dian McKinney started with this group but left and returned between kindergarten and graduation. Miss Manz was our teacher in both kindergarten and first grade. During the first grade Dale Evers- meyer rejoined our class. Our teachers in the second grade were Miss Shellabarger and Miss Anthony. Bob Miller joined us this year. Our third grade teachers were Miss Miller and Miss Skrivsteth. Charlene Hohenadel, who had moved away, returned and we gained one new mem- ber, Carol Ann Pretz. Four of the 1954 graduates- to-be joined the class in the fourth grade. They were Dave Allison, Lloyd Baird, Bill Brauns, and Barbara Robinson. Our teachers were Mrs. Bates and Miss Hoffman. We were glad to welcome June Wilson and Janet Callahan to our group in the fifth grade. That year our teachers were Miss Bloom and Mrs. Frerichs. In our last year in grade school Peggy Lihs and Bob Marshall joined our class and Bob Miller and Dave Allison, who had moved away, returned. Our teach- ers in the sixth grade were Miss Gallup and Mrs. Frerichs. When we entered juniorhigh we hadfive teach- ers: Mr. McGill, Miss Bissell, Mrs. Hayes, Miss Gross, and Mrs. Loghry. During this year we gained three new members, Sharon and Joe Patrick and Robert Otto. No new members joined our class in the eighth grade and our teachers were the same as those in seventh grade. In the fall of 1950 we entered high school, were initiated, and soon became part of the senior high school. Four of our classmates of previous years re- turned. They were Bob Miller, Jiihn Wright, Bonnie Courtney, Dian McKinney. Bill Smith and Dixie Jennings were added to our class. During our freshman year most of us took part in music and a few in athletics. By the middle of our sophomore year we were branching out in our activities and some of us were beginning to receive recognition. Darrell Stockdale became the 39th member of our class when he joined during our sophomore year. That year we initiated the fresh- men, and served as waiters and waitresses at the junior-senior banquet. Our junior year was the beginning of our upper- classmen days in high school. We were now becom- ing the leaders. Our group activities were our class trip, our class play, and our prom. We planned an all-night party for the seniors--banquet, prom, movies, and breakfast--the first of its kind at Wapello. This last year has certainly been a busy one. Picture taking at Davenport, homecoming, Maga- zine sale, Christmas formal dance, class trip, class play, junior-senior prom. We had so many things to do. Before we realized it we were practicing for graduation and reviewing for our final high school tests. One evening, amid the best wishes and con- gratulations of our families and friends, we realized it was all over. We were no longer kids but young adults. Graduation left us a little sad as well as proud and happy. We knew now that for us high school was just a memory.
