MOMENTS TO The 1971 Homecoming of Wapella High School has come to an end, and we would like to share with you the highlights of our festivities. During the week of Homecoming, we had special activities for every day to help the students get it all together. I. Monday: Sloppy Day. This was the day when even the snappy dressers let it all hang out. II. Tuesday: Beanie Day and Decorate the Town. This could be called skip day because everyone was getting passes to go decorate the town. We had our principal over a barrel because he couldn’t spoil all the fun of Homecoming Week. Cleaning the town wasn’t much fun as the rain came, and some of the Junior and Senior boys went to remove the decorations. WEEK’S DANCE Compliments of: THORP SEED CO. III. Wednesday: Hat Day and Honor the Teachers. The halls of WHS were just like a scene out of Lidsville. The only thing missing was a “Mad Hatter.” IV. Thursday: Fad and Decorate the School Day. All of the kids came in their jive fads that were more jive out than jive in. Although nobody cared what they looked like, some of the outfits Liberace wouldn’t even practice his tinkling in. But all had fun and enjoyed looking different. The school was humiliated .. . REMEMBER THEY? ACTIVITIES by the students from Freshman to Senior. It was painted, smothered with banners, and donned with posters, and decorated with crepe paper. All of our energies were expended in vain, however, because the mighty Wildcats had their tails tucked between their legs by the very fortunate Colts who caught the “Cats” with their paws down. Friday: School Color and Spirit Day. Ah! The end of a wonderful week. Everyone came to school wearing blue and white. A side-splitting pep assembly ended the day 8th hour. It was started by the pom-pons doing their routine to “Jingle Bell Rock.” Then our Wildcat mascot, Lynn Samuel, had it out with the sickly MWA colt. After Lynn rode the colt out of the gym, Rebecca Thorp pantomined getting ready for a game—but she didn’t seem to have it all together. Friday night the traditional Snake Dance was held. This year the dance was held in the gym, but the spirit was still higher than a giraffe’s eye. The participants bolted through the halls and lost many kids along the way. Paul Thomas and Marvin Morris gave speeches on how school has changed. Dawn Schnabel provided a great concert, and a movie “Snow White and Three Stooges” was shown. The Student Council and FHA provided chocolate milk and popcorn to satisfy our disinterest in the movie. 1971-72 will always be remembered as the year Wapella Students really came through with their school spirit, and we hope it will continue always. GAME Compliments of: THORP SEED CO. Mommy, you said basketball would make an All-American boy. You didn’t tell me it’d get me killed! Terry’s got his fingers crossed. Think it will help?
