We thank you sincerely. 2 “Siif}j untendent' Meaaage” Congratulations Seniors of 1958. By the time you receive your annual you will be ready to leave Wapella Community High School. Its faculty will have tried to do all it could for you. From the day you graduate, the decision to go on to school or to find a place in our society will be yours. It is our sincere wish that we have instigated in you the ability to think, to make your own decisions, and to develop a broad sense of understanding. May each of you find happiness in whatever path you may take. Robert W. Kirk 3 “3Wincipxi£’ x MeAAage” TO THE SENIORS: Never has a world challenged the initiative and abilities of youth as does the world into which you are stepping. The spectre of uncertainty dominates the people of the wo rid. It will be your job to cope with the problems of the world and face them with a courage that will lend stability and peace to civilization that is tottering on the brink of disaster. Signed by the said Senior Class of 1957 and by them declared to be their Last Will and Testament, and attested by us witnesses thereto, in the presence of each other, at Wapella, Illinois, this 21st Day of May, 1958. 11 Ginny Lee Duncan Satie QIoaa 3 x phecty Golly, it doesn’t seem possible that twenty five-years have elapsed since we seniors of the class of 1958 graduated. Certainly a lot of things have happened since the glorious day of May 21, 1958. I myself, (Mrs. ? “you’ll never guess’’), alias Toni Spaulding, have become a very dis-tinquished author of short stories. I’m sure you have read my latest, entitled “Osh Gosh-By-Gosh.” Well, anyway, I am on my way to a very elegant dinner and Ball being given by Mr. and Mrs. Morris Luck in Washington D. C. Mrs. Luck, whose maiden name was Judy Mearida, has invited all of her former classmates to her home for a weekend of parties and just reminiscing. Mr. Luck is the nation’s Secretary of Agriculture and I am indeed looking forward to seeing them both again. At last I have arrived, and after a very hearty welcome Mrs. Luck escorts me through her twenty room home out onto the patio where several of our former classmates have gathered around the swimming pooL Everyone is so excited over seeing the other again that I nearly loose my balance and fall into the pooL Things begin to calm down though and I find myself in the midst of a very deep conversation with Jerry Gaherty on the subject of chemistry. Jerry is one of the world’s top scientists today and he has just perfected the fuel to be used in America’s “Niksput X when it is launched sometime this year. Jerry always had a way with gases even though several of his experiments with it in high school chemistry failed. Next I find myself engaged in conversation with Ginny Duncan and Melvin Murphy. It seems Mick and Ginny can’t seem to agree on a wedding date. I wish them luck and proceed to another lawn table where Carol Harrold, Mary Kinder, and Montie Welch are reminiscing. I find Carol is head librarian at our old home town, and that Mary is ex-president Eisenhower’s private therapist. Her pay is just out of this world, as Ike has been making his residence on Mars lately. But he let Mary borrow his super-winged Edsel to come to Judy’s party here on earth. And Montie. Well, he seemed to have a craving for railroad work ever since we former seniors gave that great play “Off the Track” in which Montie played the part of the station agent. He is head engineer of the Illinois Central Rocket Airway now. All of a sudden I hear a cheerful laugh and turn to find my very close friend Doris Short playing volleyball with her husband and six children on the Luck's volleyball court. We had such a wonderful long talk and I was not too surprised to find she was living in Kentucky on a million dollar horse farm and that she can speak Turkish quite fluently. Suddenly there are two great splashes in the pool and who should I see but Jerry Morris and Twila Jones. I learn that Jerry is the champion of the universe in swimming and diving. He makes his home in Florida with his lovely wife and four children and races cars for a living. Twila always loved sports and she has become a champion in nearly every sport there is. She even holds the title for the most outstanding rocket tennis player and high jumper of Pluto. Seems to me there are several missing here at the party. Oh, there is Bill Russell. I always wondered what became of him, and am I astonished to hear he is acting now with V. T. Incorporated. (V. T. is the top movie industry of the day). He just told me he is in the midst of making the life story of Chester, the beloved partner of Matt Diljon of Dodge City. Still I haven’t been able to talk with all our ‘ole’ school mates. Perhaps they have been detained for some reason. Yes, here they come now. Well, if it isn’t Sharon Bray, Donna Moore, and Betty Page. I must hurry over to them so that I will have first chance to speak with them................. 14 My, what a charming conversation we have going. Sharon tells of her adorable family. I believe I understood her to say that her three darling children are named Bud, Dee, and Bryan. Very appropriate names I think. Her husband is in the dairy business on the moon and I understand his blue cheese is superb. Donna informs me that she was delayed because of a flameout in one of her supercharged rockets. She also tells me she is quite happily married and helps her husband a great deal on their sea-horse hatchery off the coast of Rio De Janeiro. Betty seems to be the only one of the girls who isn’t either married or engaged. She informed us in high school that if she couldn’t have Elvis Presley she didn’t want anyone else. Apparently she didn’t get Elvis to consent. But she may have some prospects because she has just built a very luxurious home right across from the Air Force Academy in Colorado. She also had her pool and sun porch built in the front lawn instead of the back. My weekend stay here at Judy’s is one I’ll never forget and I believe as soon as I return to San Francisco (that’s my home) I am going to write a novel on all my former classmates. I think I’ll entitle it “Little Acorns of 1982.” • •••«•• •• •••• • •• •« •• « • • • •• ••••• • • • • •«• • ••• • 15 Sharon Bray. fast Ms Jtids, BEST DANCERS MOST AMBITIOUS MOST ATHLETIC MISS JOAN VOLKERS English and Librarian A.B.
